Amir Khan's next opponent is ...

... the great Steve Gethin!

Let's see, Steve is 9-18-2 and usually fights two weight classes lower than Khan!

Wonderful. I know it's only his third fight, so I won't complain However, what's with the seven week layoff for Khan? You'd think Warren could've gotten him a fight in October or something.

That is diabolical.

Too much of a step up if you ask me. :TU: :TU: Only 2 weights below :o

Sky showed Gethin versus Ian Napa. He was too easy to hit and got banged up a bit by the feather fisted flyweight. This ain't gonna be pretty.

why the step backwards????

I think he wants another KO on his record but he can't build a carrer on this kind of opponents or it will put people who see it on ITV off boxing.

I'm not sure this match will come off, seems a bit early for them to announce it, especially as its a bad match-up.

I've heard that Danny Thorpe might be considered.

THorp would certainly offer more competition.

I'm with the guy above. I think Warren wants him to have plenty of KAYOS on the CV to give him confidence in his punching power. I still would like to see Khan get tagged to see what his chin is like" :TU:

Way too early to be criticising his opponents IMO, he's only had 2 fights

I think its useful to look at each fight at this stage in his carear and ask what he can learn from each. The problem if any I have is that given that he is not compeeting in the ametre and not having regular fights against tough opponents and given that he dosen't have the best expereance as am ametre

It's a no win situation with Kahn's opponents. If his next fight was for the world title ITV would be well pleased yet loads of people would be saying it's too soon to be taking such a step.

He needs to spend 10-15 fights fighting different styles, gaining experience. Doing this in a very public forum (like Audley) is asking for trouble, but then this way he earns more, something which no-one could begrudge any fighter.

Bottom line is he's not going to fight significantly dangerous opponents for the next, what, 12-24 months and as fans we just have to accept and appreciate this and take the 1/50 odds on Bet 365!

I totally disagree. While he has only had 2 fights he is an exceptional talent so why put him in with smaller guys. I have no problems with who they put him in with at this point as long as they are natural lightweights or light welterweights. What exactly is the point of feeding him superfeathers he will just walk right through?

Yeah I agree, it's fine putting him in with journeymen, but not journeymen 1-2 weights below himself.

I can't see how anyone gains anything from that, least of all the casual viewer.

Least he's giving his opponents a month or two notice. These guys will go into hard training looking to beat the young silver medalist or just not to get humiliated on national tv.

I'd be interested to see the level of guy he's sparring if these are his matches. The argument that he'd have had a better level of competition at the upper levels of amateurs, even domestic, is very hard to counter. This is an important learning period and I'm not sure where he's learning, except maybe on the pads.

Not that I have an issue with him going in with a guy who's got a losing record, but the weight disparity thing is a joke.

It's just to give him an inflated knockout ratio. He doesn't look feather-fisted, but he probably wouldn't stop as many if they were the same weight as him.

Yep, it's definately padding for the record...a real shocking match.

Even with 7 weeks preparation, Gethin doesn't stand a chance.

It's gonna be very embarrasing for Khan in front of the Scottish fans. Irish Light Welterweight prospect Paul McCloskey is scheduled to be on the bill, and in his second fight he got a good looking points decision against 6-4 Light Middleweight Oscar Milkitas (I think it may have been on Sky?)

That's right mate, John Breen brought him over with Kevin O'Hara and he looked very slick in defence, and also showed some nice punching skills against a fit and game Milkitas. He had a died blonde spike type hairdo if I remember. Deffo one to watch.

first 10 fights r always padding.

no criticisms at this stage from me.

The problem is as this guy is a lot smaller than Khan it will probably be over in a couple of minutes. We're talking prime time ITV here. Nobody wants to see him in a gruelling battle at this point but guys his own size that can go 2 or 3 rounds at the very least have to be the order of the day.

Warren is showing himself up to be a right hypocrite, he absolutely crucified Audley Harrison for his opponents on terrestrial TV in his early career yet he is making similar or worse matches on ITV for Khan.

The BBBofC shouldn`t allow him to fight Steve Gethin.

The Leavander Johnson tragedy should bring to the front just what a dangerous sport this is.
I`m sure if it is true Steve Gethin has been offered the match he would take it but if his own people don`t stop him then the BBBofC should.

Much has been written about Leavanda being too brave for his own good and absorbing too much in that fight, but almost all fighters are too brave and that is why they sometimes need protecting.

Khan is a very talented young fighter who fights a weight division or two above Gethin, how would this fight benefit Khan apart from padding his record with a KO..its lambs to the slaughter.

All the people that repeat the old `its only his third fight and all fighters get these type of opponents` should ask themselves if Steve Gethin was their boy would they accept the fight for him?...and if they say yes..then I`d pray they are never in a similar position themselves.

I`ve said it before, but this is the side of boxing that I hate.
Its bad for the sport and dangerous for the likes of Steve Gethin.

Agree with tonyevs. Gethin looked like an alright lad against Napa, and I don't want to see this one. He has a large head and a thin body and will get picked off in sickening fashion from Khan. I could tell from his face versus Napa that he was trying in there, but couldn't figure out how to stop getting hit from those angles. Khan will be doing the same but this time much, much harder. This shouldn't be happening.

Agree entirly the bbbc should stop this one its a joke \, where's the duty of care the bbbc have . or does that go out the window with certain promoters, probably have Vann has ref just in case Khan gets hit back by accident
