Whats the greatest fight family of all time... the first family that came to my mind was the spinks'? or the baers.. anyone know of any others? the mayweathers are up there....

IMO mayweathers is up there

-roger was a great fighter near HOf material. he beat sammy serrano who looked damm near impossible to beat at the time.

- floyd sr never made it to far, he was a contender though. he stunned leonard in there bout.

- and of course floyd jr

The Zivic family of Pittsburgh. Two brothers, Pete and Jack, were members of the 1920 US Olympic team Pete lost in the 2nd round and Jack made it to the semi-finals, for which he was given the 4th place medal. In 1970 Ring rated Jack among the top ten all time light weights, while brother Fritzie was 9th all time welterweight and is in the HoF, twice habving defeated Henry Armstrong, lost a split to Sugar Ray Robinson and by last round ko. Brother Eddie was good enough to fight Armstrong.

The Muhammad Brothers, Ali, Saad, Qawi, Mustafa.
The "Sugar" family, Robinson, Leanard, Mosley.

What about the Spinks family???.... two brothers holding the Heavyweight title... (and Mike having been an outstanding lightheavychampion!) and Leons son being Welterweight champion himself..... I don't recall any other family bringing home 4 world titles!... 8)

I would honestly guess the Spinks have the most impressive record.

mike and tommy never won a championship... how the heck do you rate them above the spinks...they won 4.

Leon was one of the finest Light-Heavyweight amateurs that the USA have everhad.

As a professional he lacked the maturity to cope with being thrust into the 'bright-lights' so early. Also out of the ring Leons life was full of problems, some of this was Leons fault but many were not.

Leon beat some good fighters as a professional even when he may not have trained properly. Yes, Ali was near shot when Leon beat him but Ali was still one of the best Heavyweights in the World at that time and remember Ali CHOSE to fight Leon. Leon won the fight fair and square so I don't agree with your statement that ' he shouldn't have won the title in the first place'.

P.S. I also think Cory Spinks is a skilled fighter and is a good (I admit not great) boxer.

The Spinks seems an obvious 1st choice.

Very true, Cory is a very good boxer I think who has shown a lot of character to overcome personal tragedies out of the ring.
Leon was a brilliant amutuer who had a fast burning pro career and he couldn't take the pressures of success and was fooled by the various leeches that try and latch onto someone who has made something out of themselves. But Leon even when he didnt train, always showed great heart in the ring (sometimes too much) and he never raped anyone, or tried to break opponents arms or ate their ears and so he deserves a much better deal than he gets from many so called 'boxing fans' I think.
Most of the time the only person Leon harmed was himself.

Look at this family resume:

Jack Zivic- Member of the 1920 Olympic boxing team. As a pro he knocked out Lew Tendler and beat Tommy Milligan.

Pete Zivic - held a win over lightweight champion Al Singer and was also a 1920 Olympic boxing representative.

Fritzie Zivic- Held the welterweight title in an era when there was only ONE champion in each weigt class. Beat the great Henry Armstrong.

Eddie Zivic: Held a win over Tony Canzoneri.

Joe Zivic: was a star amateur and had a few fights as a pro eventually becoming a well known ref.

Tough to beat....

The Toweel family is another one......

I pick the Gibbons family as the greatest boxing family.
Both Mike and Tommy were truly great fighters regardless
of whether they were titleholders. Yes, the Spinks family
had three titleholders, BUT do you think that Leon and
Cory were in the class of Mike and Tommy?

I was beginning to think I'm all alone out here until enrique weighed in for the Zivic crew . Five of them,, and all accomplished ringmen.

I have said that Leon Spinks may have been ready to
fight a fading Muhammad Ali, but he was NOT ready
to become the World Heavyweight Champion after
having so few professional bouts. It is my opinion
that Leon had terrible management. After all, Leon's
brain trust threw him to the wolves. But I will
admit that there is not any guarantee that Leon
would have gone on to become a great fighter
he was managed properly.

The Hilton's, Matthew, Alex, Davey jr, Stewart.

the attells.monte bantamweight champ.abe an outstanding champ at feather.

The Mayweather's aren't half bad either, Floyd Jr. and Roger being the standouts. Floyd Sr. and Jeff were also good fighters in their day.

I would say the Spinks family, they both brothers won the heavyweight title. And Cory was a champ also.

If your going by world titles then the Spinks family gets it imo.
Its very unusual for a father and brother to win a world title each and then for a son of one of them to win a world title as well. In fact its not been done by anyone else and deserves some respect... theres definately something in that Spinks blood...

By world titles the Spinks have it. Three in the family.

By sheer numbers it's the Zivics. One champ, two olimpians and three who beat world champions.

There's also Carmen Basilio and Billy Backus. Uncle and nephew both world champs.
