Just watched a UK production last night called "101 Knockouts", and couldn't believe Darren Corbett. I'd heard of him for several years but never knew about his antics in the ring. They showed highlights of about 6 of his fights, and this guy did something different after every knockdown or victory. So I'am curious. What part of Belfast is Corbett from, is he distantly related to James J, and seeing that he hasen't fought in a year and a half, has he retired ?

I saw that show a year or so ago. He was nuts in the ring. Every time I saw his name on the "101" intro I was hoping to see him get rocked. I recall him be active at the time but it now looks as though he may have hung'em up.

That show is pretty sweet; It has the Julian Jackson KO. Announcer: "Ohh No!"

I heard as a Super-Heavyweight Amateur, Corbett weighed over 20st at times can anyone confirm this?

Made his name by coldcocking the highly touted, unbeaten Chris Okoh - who was being built up as the next big thing...

Remember Darren's manager, Barry Hearn, predicting that pudgy Corbett would be a world champ in 5 different divisions, by losing weight and moving down through the weight divisions....he said this with a straight face!

I was caught off guard yesterday so I didn't tape the program, but one of the announcers made mention of Corbett losing a tremendous amount of weight (several stone I think) prior to a pro fight.

My first impression of Corbett was that he seemed like a real wanker, but I did notice he rushed over and became concerned when Roberto Dominguez Perez wasen't moving. And yes, the KO of Herol Graham is down right scary, how did such a sharp defensive fighter ever get with that Sunday punch. Wonder what Herol's first words were upon waking up.

He started at heavyweight and moved down through Cruiser to Light Heavyweight. He absolutely pulverised Okoh.

Darren Corbett is from an area in Belfast called the Antrim Road in North Belfast, I'd not think is is related to James J. He carried a good punch and certainly did some mad antics in the ring, but is career is mainly on the back burner and he best days are far behind him. Last I heard was he worked as a doorman in Belfast, but not heard much of him.

Jacksons eye was a complete mess that night and closing very fast, at the time watching it live in TV I fully expected the ref/doctor or corner to stop the fight at the end of the round due to Jacksons near shut eye.

Corbett has recently been sparring with Jon O' Brien who is trained by Darrens brother.

There was talk of a comeback about a year ago, IIRC.

It all fell through because he crashed into a pram while doing roadwork and got injured. Or something bizarre like that.

What sticks in my mind in that fight is Jim McDonnell going "Hes aaaaaaaat...... he's aaaaaaaat"

Corbett fighting Okoh looked to the casual observer as the most unlikely result.

I watched it in the pub - and Corbett looking like some fat drinker they pulled out of a pub and knocked out the picture perfect athlete Okoh.

Is he any relation to Ronnie? :P
