Today saw the weigh in for tomorrows (07-10-05) York Hall Promotion and my camera was there to film the event. Glynn Evans was on hand to fire the questions at top of the bill Gary Woolcombe, seeking to gain the British Masters title against Delroy Mellis.
Junior "The Commissioner" McDonald, the heavy handed cruiserweight prospect, who will be tested against Paul Bonson and the heavily touted Sam Webb will show why so many have called him "The Amateur Ricky Hatton" with his pro debut. Craig Watson, the only guy to have put Khan on his backside is on the bill as is Ian Wilson, a great chance to see some future stars.
This will be a promotion for the true fight fan showcasing real prospects against real opposition.
See what the fighters are saying pre-fight, the film is free and can be found at the top of the movies list at;

just click on the link entitled "06-10-05 weigh in"
I'll be there filming the show so do come over and say Hi if your there.

Good vids these. Top of the bill for this card is very interesting - Mellis usually only loses to the top of the domestic tree; that left hook he KO'd Wayne Alexander with proves the danger. Woolcombe looks a good prospect but he will need to stay on his toes and keep focussed, also watching his punch output - he had to strip to make the weight (though looked fit) and has never been past 6. Mellis on the other hand was his usual ripped self and is well capable of going the distance. In a live, proper, step-up in class, I think Gary will use his movement and skills to keep away from Mellis for a points win.

Gary has looked chinny though and I don't think he'll have the power to take Mellis out although he does seem to be improving in that department. It's all about whether he'll be able to resist going in to try and take Mellis out at one stage during the fight and I don't think he'll be able to do that.

Mellis whilst behind on points puts Woolcombe down 3 times for a stoppage in the 5th.
