Castillo can't make weight!

UPDATE: Corrales' promoter Gary Shaw and Castillo's promoter Bob Arum have tentatively agreed to allow the fight to go ahead at a catch weight of 147 lbs and the Castillo camp has also agreed to be fined $75,000 per pound for every pound he is over 147. There is a major snag, however. Arum wants the weigh-in to be tomorrow at 3PM, Shaw insists having it at 5PM. Arum finally exploded and stated rather colorfully that if the weigh-in is not at 3PM then the fight is off. Castillo's manager Fernando Beltran told Fightnews that Castillo is embarrased about the cheating incident on the scale and wants to apologize to everyone. Beltran added that he will not jeopardize his fighter's health and the fight will not go on if the 3PM weigh-in is not agreed to. The fighters are scheduled to square off at about 8PM. Negotiations are continuing...
UPDATE: Castillo's camp doctor Armando Barak has been suspended for slipping his foot under the scale in an attempt to lighten the load when Castillo stepped on the scale. After Barak was removed from the scale area, Castillo again weighed 138.5 and gave up trying to make the weight. According the Nevada Commission's Marc Ratner, the infraction will cost Castillo 10% of his purse ($120,000). Half of the fine will go to Corrales, half will go to the commission. Barak has been fined personally $1000 and faces further penalties. The WBC and WBO have both corfirmed that Corrales' titles will not be stake.

The doctor that stuck his foot under the scales to try and cheat , and make it look as if Castillo was lighter was fined $1000.
Hopefully he will be banned for life and have a much more severe financial penalty against him, this is a guy who is supposed to be looking after the health of fighters, after the recent tragady with Leavander Johnson the last thing we need is another incident.
Armando Barak is the doctors name, what a fornicating prick!!!

This is all total fornicating madness. Only in America as they say.
Agree with you, that doctor sounds a right arsing snake in the grass.
I'll just add in a good point made on the current scene (

) being that Castillo should have shaken off that weight in between weigh-ins quite easily, whether by the 'ol Kostya 'someone lend me BN' Zoo method, or more sedate methods. How he can out on another 1.5 when he's supposedly trying to lose weight I suppose is not inconceivable but surely pretty unlikely. Does sound a bit fishy

The first one was 'the fight of the millenium'. Now we have 'the farce of the millenium'.
It's all drama I suppose and it get's the fans talking, but I feel sorry for the ones who have made the trip to Vegas to see the fight (didn't some people who post on here go over?). They should turn up at that 'weigh-in' later today and pelt Castillo with jumping beans the fat bass.

It is a disgrace and puts Corrales at a big disadvantage, He has pushed himself to get down to the limit and Castillo hasn't had to cut the last few pounds to get there.

Ben's point is exactly what's made me decide not to have a punt on this one. Usually I get bets on early (so that I don't forget). Glad I had visitors yesterday so I had to wait until after the weigh-in.

I've got a bad feeling about this fight. I think one of the reasons for this fiasco is the greed of the promoters in getting the rematch staged so soon. I doubt that either fighter is really ready for it, both will probably go into the fight weight weakened and after recent events it is a worrying point. They seem to be asking why so many fighters have been injured lately... perhaps they should look at the shambolic things going on behind the scenes such as this and doctors such as Barak who is only worried about the haelth of his bank balance.
Castillo should be fined his whole purse and the fight should be called off imo.

Doctor is an idiot - although perhaps he might in a crazy way be thinking better that Castillo is a few pounds over than for him to dehydrate to make the weight. Although safest option would have definately been to come clean. If this doctor is in charge of this contest, question marks will be raised if he allows Castillo to take a beating.
I thought he looked very fresh yesterday, can see why now.
Not sure who this favours, one would think Castillo, but has this dehydration and emotional whoo haa effected him more.

But how much weight has Castillo lost before giving up making the weight?. Things like this usually happen when a fighter has lost loads of weight and the body just refuses to shed anymore in such a short time. At the end of the day the whole thing is a shambles which I'm sure wouldn't have happened had they waited till about Febuary or March for the rematch. This is all a case of wallets ruling heads.
