I've seen quite a few fighters from the British Isles over the years, but one fighter I've only seen in photos (never in action) was Terry Marsh. I think I first heard about Marsh shortly before he won the European title and based on what I read about him, I didn't expect him to ever win a world title. In fact when he fought Joe Manley for the IBF title, my prediction was (because he had been in with much better opposition) Manley in 7. Next morning in the pre internet days, when I opened the Sunday paper to see if Manley's knockout had come earlier or later than I predicted, I was shocked to read that Marsh had totally dominated the fight and had knocked out Manley.

Now my question is, what was Terry Marsh's style like, AND did he change it dramatically at some point since he scored only 2 KO's in his first 16 fights, but had 8 in his last 11.

Well wwithouit terying to be a smart arse , how could you possibly pick one fighter to beat another who you hav'nt even seen

Marsh was basicaly a smart neat boxer whose style stayed pretty much the same through his career. He wasn't a one punch knock out artist but could finish his opponent off quite effectively once he got him tired.

It said in his auto-biography that he really went for it in his last fight because he was cut and thought the fight may be stopped due to the cut. I think one or two of his other stoppage victories may have been due to cuts as well.

He has said in interviews, that he has stopped people, but never knocked anyone out in Amatuer or Pro fights

I picked Joe Manley to beat Marsh on the basis that I had seen a few of his fights and was fairly impressed with him . Plus I knew that he had been in with Harry Arroyo, Hatcher, Pendleton, Shields, Gary Hinton and Howard Davis Jr (actually I saw the Davis and the two Hinton fights) From what I had read about Marsh I knew he hadn't faced that kind of opposition, hence my prediction. When Marsh got the KO I was rather surprised, but certainly not upset. People make predictions about fighters they've never seen all the time, because unfortunately we don't have access to all that many fight films. In this particular bout I was going by records, quality of oppostion and what I had seen of Manley.

Marsh's book sounds very interesting, and it appears he isn't particularly fond of policemen. GOOD MAN ! Like his oppinions on the situation in Iraq as well. Anyway, it's great that he can forever say he was World Champion and was never defeated as a professional.

I allways enjoyes watching Terry marsh fight live on TV. He was a very itelligent smart Boxer, good stamina, very determined and good workrate.

He was up to fight Frankie Warren next (no relation) which would have been a tough fight for Marsh, then further down the line there was talk of a big money fight against The Macho Man, whom I think may have been a step to far for Marsh, but alas we shall never know for sure.

In my humble opinion comparing Marsh to other recent UK Light-Welterweights I think Hatton would have been too much for him but Marsh vs Witter and E.Magee would have been good matches.

I remember Frankie "Ponchito" Warren well and saw several of his fights. Very short fighter in the mould of Qawi and James "Hard Rock" Green. Buddy McGirt fought him in 86 and made the mistake of going toe to toe with Warren who was great on the inside like alot of small fighters are. Two years later in the rematch, which was again in Warren's hometown of Corpus Christi, McGirt amended his tactics and this time used his reach to good advantage and kept Warren on the outside. He scored heavily with the jab while nailing Warren with counters. By the final round, Warren's one eye was shut and the referee stopped the bout with McGirt pummeling the hometown favorite at will. Based on the kind of agression Marsh displayed in last two bouts (well I did read accounts) I think he possibly could have beaten Warren, providing of course that he kept him on the outside and didn't spend too much time in the trenches.

Only heard about a planned bout with Camacho though. Can probably guess how that would have ended. Camacho via a controversial split decision.
