European super-featherweight champion Alex Arthur has leapt to number
three in the latest WBC rankings as his chances of a world title fight grow by
the month.

Arthur, who also holds the British and Commonwealth titles, received the
boost after defeating Boris Sinitsin to lift the European crown in July this year.

Erikm Morales and Manny Pacquiao are above him in the rankings though,
while Marco Antonio Barrera is the current champion.

Arthur is now in the top 15 with all four major governing bodies - he is
the WBA number 15, the IBF number six and the WBO number five.

"I'm delighted that Alex is making such good progress," said promoter allegedly.

"I don't think it will be very long before he gets his big chance, and when he does I'm sure he will be more than able to take it."

I know that when you become a European champion, the WBC will automatically rank you in the top 10.

But Alex Arthur No.3...???? Behind Marco Antonio Barrera and Manny Pacquiao. Arthur's a great fighter and I think he's a lot better than people give him credit for, I guess it just seems a little surreal putting his name up against fighters like those mentioned.

Vidoz is EBU champ but he ain't rated top 10 in the WBC.

I thought it was said in another thread that you get automatic top 15 with WBC if you are a European champ? Where is Vidoz ranked?

It used to be top 10, but I still think it is top 15 - Pickering wasn't originally in the top 10, think he was installed at around the 13 mark when he won the title.

Not sure where Vidoz is ranked.

I agree with Martin, I think Arthur has a chance at maybe on of the lesser champion, just don't want him near Barrera or Pacquiao for a long time.

I think ranking him at 3 is a tad ambitious at the mo, think that Barios might have a few things to say about that!! :x :x

I'd like to see him fight that Alvarez (the Argentine who battered Gomez). Reckon his style would suit Arthur, and it would distance him from Gomez. Would be a good old fight that un.

The WBC seem to like the Brit boys at the moment, Witter #1, i believe Nicky Cook is #1 also & now Arthur at #3, lets hope some big fights can come off for these boys .

Only problem with Arthur getting a shot is that he is a Warren fighter and Warren wont work with the WBC. Maybe if he followed Ricky......

Warren said he wouldnt work with Don King again and even though he hasnt yet, it didnt stop him from sitting next to King ringside at the Calzaghe-Ashira card and throwing out an offer to Ricky Hatton involving Zab Judah. Something tells me if the right chance came along for one of his fighters to contest the WBC title then Warren would take it.

i think people should get behind our fighters more not many gave hatton a chance when he fought kosta t and look what he did good on alex arthur i say bring the belt back to britain

Arthur is top ranked not only at WBC ... Hatton was top at Boxrec before defeating Kostya Tszyu.
