Super hard bastard Galindez took two 15 rd decisions over Lopez in the late 70s.
Can any of you old timers tell me about these fights? Were they good? Close etc?

Haven't seen any of these fights, but when you put two guys like Yarqui Lopez and Victor Galindez in the same ring, I'd imagine you're guaranteed a great fight.
I would be very interested in getting those fights on tape or DVD. Anyone have them?

I really don't think of myself as an oldtimer just yet

:) But I do remember seeing both fights on TV. Saturday PM on CBS. Both were close fights but Victor got the nod in both. I was a Galindez fan and he did deserve the first decision but how the judges gave him the second one is beyond me. I had Yaqui winning big. As did the TV announcers. We were all like, huh? Early in his career Victor was pretty much a straight forward brawler. After almost losing his title on cuts to Richie Kates he totally changed and became a very defensive fighter, spending almost all of his time counter-punching off the ropes. Which is how he fought Yaqui. He was fairly effective at it and was able to defend his title succesfully against, along with Yaqui, and Eddie Gregory/Mustafa Muhammad. It did make for some boring fights however. In a previous post, asking for opinions on most boring title fights I nominated Galindez/Gregory. Victor was killed after retiring during a car race. I don't know about Yaqui Lopez. Wish him the best though. Among great fighters that never won a title I have him #2 behind Jerry Quarry.

I agree on this. Yaqui won the second fight imo.
Lopez was easily the best fughter that NEVER won a title.
Remember the Ring fight of the year he had with Saad Muhammad.
Lopez was winning out of sight when Saad came on strong at the end and caught Yaqui late
Galindez was an incredible brawler who was tragically cut down when he retired.
Took up car racing and was killed as he stood beside a broken down car.
Tragic
