Sylvester Stallone will direct and reprise his role as Rocky Balboa in the sixth installment of the boxing franchise, reports Production Weekly.

In the film, lonely and retired boxer Rocky Balboa comes out of retirement, intending to fight a few low-profile local fights just to keep his hand in. But when he's approached to fight a match with reigning heavyweight champ Mason "The Line" Dixon, Rocky's modest little comeback becomes the center of a media firestorm.

Rocky 6 is scheduled to begin filming early December in Los Angeles.

I'm probably gunna sound sad saying this but i'm looking forward to this one (Lets just hope its better than Rocky 5).

Sounds like a carbon copy of Rocky 1.

Is Stallone going to be playing the part of Rocky?
He may be in good shape but he's 60 next year. Even George Formean wouldn't comeback at that age.

BTW, production of Rambo IV is also underway.

I have been "lucky" enough to read extracts from the scripts. Of coursed, they were curtailed before the denoument, but, I am guessing Our Hero succeeds in the face of almost unsurmountable odds.

The mag is fun though. Particularly the monthly head to head between Sly and James Caan whose vocabulary scarecely seems to get beyond the words " nice rack"

Lol... In the adverts for Contender on ITV2, he looked completely plastic, kind of looked like a mask.

Don't know what to think about this one... everyone knows he'll win the end or maybe we'll get surprised and he'll suffer the same fate as Apollo

I think it is is good, he has always been a supporter of boxing and a new Rocky movie will raise the sports profile again.

I think the first two Rocky's were great, not the formulaic predictable outcomes of the others (and even they had their twists, Apollo dying, Mickey dying, Tommy turning on him, the loss of his fortune, etc) so yeah I am looking forward to this, as long as his son is not in it, he cant act.

As for Rambo, First Blood is a strong touching and politcally incorrect for the time film that has been destroyed by Rambo II and III, I dont expect more from IV.

Another straight-to-video production from Sly, just like everything else he's done in the last 10 years.

I saw his biography on the biography channel, and it showed a consistent pattern, whenever he has a run of poor box office sales he falls to Rocky or Rambo that kickstarts his career. The only Rocky/Rambo that wasn't successful was Rocky 5 - but it still did the trick cause he had likes of Cliffhanger and Demolition Man after which brought him big success.

I fully expect it to do well in the box office for the first week, intrigue value alone will make sure of that. After that though will show how good the movie is.

Even Battlefield Earth and Crocodile Dundee III were top 10 in the box office for one week.

But thankfully we never had Croc Dundee 6....at least not yet. Anyway, Top 10 doesn't mean a hell of a lot, could've been a slow week. No way you'd release those two the same week as say, Jurassic Park 3.

Some films get released on a Thursday, just so they can say "Highest grossing day release of the year! ( small print: on a thursday )"

A lot of duds only get a one week theatrical release, just to give the DVD a platform a few months later.

Can't imagine any of the major studios will bank roll the latest Rocky - big risk and chances of having a real bomb on their hands.

I reckon Sly's best film was his first - The lords of Flatbush.

He is going to be hitting the 'roids bigtime to get his old arse into shape, no wonder his face looks like it does! ;)

Does anyone else remember that rumuor about 10-15 years ago about a Rocky & Rambo crossover film?

rocky balboa is the worst boxer ever......but he has a good chin
