Freddie Roach would possibly be my choice.

Joe Gossen, Buddy McGirt and Cunnigham (Wright and Lacy).

Does Gossen bat for the other side, or just looks like he does?

Hard to say - people seem to look at the elite fighter and think whoever trains them is an elite trainer.

A trainer is only as good as his fighter, imo.

The fighter makes the trainer.

Anyone who has PBF (Just an example) will be made to look good.

That - and money is why trainers like Manny Steward only want to work with the top guys or the real prospects.

Let a trainer take Peter Buckley( a great pro) to a real World Title and I will show you an elite trainer.

I think Fritz Sdunek is in the elite also. He trains alot of fighters from their debut until world title fights.

Good point DG, but do you think PBF would be where he is today if he had an average club trainer? It is obvious he has a natural talent, but it has to take someone pretty special to teach him how to use his talent correctly and to its best.

Watching Goosen in action, I think he is brilliant, one of the best for me!

PBF just needed the basics, imo.

PBF is one of those naturals that most likely knows more than his trainer.

I like the way PBF listens to hs trainer - but I think he has a very good eye when it comes to dealing with fighters.

If these so called elite trainers are so good - how come they don't make all there fighters top fighters?.

The trainer is sometimes flattered by the fighter.

Fritz Sdunek sounds like a good bet - never heard of him - but he meets the criteria in my book!

Sdunek is the Universum head trainer + he trains Vitali Klitschko.

Doesn't Steward train the Klitchsko clan now or is it just Wlad?

Steward trains wlad, Sdunek trains Vitali.

I think you mean Dan Birmingham Stu? not Cunningham.

My vote goes to Roach and McGirt. I loved buddy as a boxer and he is turning out to be a great trainer too.

In my opinion Goosen is probably half rice, half chips.

Manny stewart lost his clame to that after Naz, he is okay at ironing out kinks in style of very good fighters though. Some are good at making s--t shine.

I vote Joe Gossen. Watch him in the Toney-Guinn fight. He told Guinn all the right things but Dom did none of it. And I like his style. Who says you have to dress like a personal fitness trainer/fat mobster in there?

I'd pick Goosen aswell, I like the fact he's very honest in every interview he does, he also speaks very clearly and gets his point across simply which is just what a fighter needs at the end of each round, Roach also has this quality and comes a close 2nd to Goosen.

To reverse this question, who do you thinks the worst trainer ?

I'd have to pick Jeff Fenech, he gets too involved in the fight and can't keep himself calm, when his boxer gets back to the corner at the end of the round all he gets is Fenech screaming bad advice to him very fast and very loud.

Jeff's having a bad run of things - but there have been some fighters who look to have gone back since joining his gym. I think he's been a bit of a disgrace in his last two major outings (as Tyson's coach and in the Hussein Hussein fight).

I won't forgive him for the way he conned (or attempted to con those who knew better) about Tyson's shape. The stuff he said about Tyson lasting 4 more rounds than he would have 1 year back was disrespectful to Tyson and especially to Freddie Roach.

It was a horrible fight and Fenech did himself no favours.

Can't believe no-one's mentioned Bouie Fisher. True man of the old school.
