Rocky VI script

Don't mean to be going overboard on Rocky but I came across a Rocky VI script on the web. I don’t think it’s the actual one going to be used (particularly considering there is nothing about Adrian dying or Mr. T commentating) but it’s not actually that bad. Obviously it’s a far fetched like the rest of them but it could have been worse. Here is the first part, will post the next bit tomorrow.

"ROCKY VI"

INT. BOXING ARENA - NIGHT

We open to a sparse crowd at a boxing match. Some people in
the audience yell things to the two combatants in the ring,
while most of the crowd is ambivalent to the action in front
of them.

Inside the ring is APOLLO CREED, JR.(22) and a typical "no
hoper named ERIC SPINES(38). They are in the third round of a
scheduled 6 round fight.

Creed moves around the ring with a deftness of speed and
skill that only his late great father, APOLLO CREED, had.

Creed hits Spines with everything but the kitchen sink.
Lefts, rights, uppercuts from awkward positions that clearly
would put lesser fighters in danger.

His hands low, Creed clearly has lost respect for his
opponent.

APOLLO JR.
Come on suckah..., come on chump?
Is that the best you got?

Apollo potshots him with some right hands.

APOLLO JR.
Is that all you can do?

Apollo lands a beautiful left uppercut. The REF moves around
the both of them trying to keep his distance.

REF
Stop talking, Apollo.

We then see a familiar face in DUKE. He was in Apollo Sr.'s
corner and now he's in Jr.'s. There are two other people with
him.

BARNEY GLOSS the cutman and AARON WHITAKER the conditioning
coach.

Apollo continues to keep his hands low as he taunts and beats
up his opponent.

DUKE
Easy now!!! Keep em' up!! Jab him!!
Don't get too close!!

We move back a few rows and see the legend himself ROCKY
BALBOA. He is with ADRIAN and PAULIE.

Rocky stands up a little bit.

ROCKY
KEEP YOUR HANDS UP APOLLO!!

Rocky sits down.

ROCKY
(to Adrian)
He's good but he keeps his hands
too low.

PAULIE
They call this fighting? I call it
more like talking too much.

ROCKY
JAB AND MOVE APOLLO!!!

We then go over to BRAD JASON(25) who calls the fight for his
own hit boxing show BOXING WITH BRAD. There is a banner on
his table that reads:

BOXING WITH BRAD

He sits alone while other reporters sit together, scrunched
in at another part of the ring apron.

BRAD
Creed is just too quick!! Spines is
clearly confused. There reaches a
point where a contest like this
becomes so one-sided that Spines's
corner may want to give serious
consideration to stopping this
contest if you can call it that.
(beat)
The only question that remains is,
we know Apollo Creed, Jr. can fight
like his father but the question I
want to know is, can he take a
punch like him too?

The bell rings.

Apollo cockily struts back to his corner where Duke and the
rest of his camp are waiting.

APOLLO JR.
This chumps got nothing.

Duke gives him some water and rubs some vaseline on his head.

DUKE
He's still there. And your hands
are too low.

Apollo smiles and looks out into the crowd. He smiles at
someone.

Duke turns Apollo's head toward him.

DUKE
They're too low, Apollo. Now get
behind the stick and drop the
hammer at a distance. AT A
DISTANCE!!

Rocky continues to yell things from his seat.

ROCKY
Keep movin' Apollo.

ADRIAN
He looks just like his father.

ROCKY
I know. I'm just glad I'm not the
other guy in there.

The bell sounds again for the 4th round.

Apollo cockily struts out into the center of the ring to face
Spines. He flicks his jab and moves from side to side.

They move to the ropes where Apollo drops his hands again.
Suddenly, Spines drills him with a hard right.

Apollo's body goes limp across the ropes.

Rocky watches this not realizing what he's seeing.

BRAD
Creed is hurt!! Creed is hurt!!
That right hand has stopped him!!
This fight is over!!!

Spines moves in and belts Apollo with two more perfectly
placed right hands that drop him to the mat. His eyes are
closed.

In an instant he has been knocked out. He made a small
mistake and it cost him this fight.

The Ref gets between the two fighters and instantly waves the
fight over.

Spines throws his hands up in victory and his people rush
into the ring.

BRAD
I don't believe it!! I AM STUNNED!!
I AM ALMOST SPEECHLESS!! Apollo
Creed, Jr. has been knocked out by
the spoiler Eric Spines. This is
UNBELIEVABLE!!!

Duke and rest of the camp rush to Apollo's side.

Rocky heads up into the ring himself. A COMMISSIONER turns to
look at him.

COMMISSIONER
Hey you can't...

Suddenly, the Commissioner realizes who it is he's talking
to.

COMMISSIONER
Hey, come on in Rock.

ROCKY
Thank you.

Rocky climbs through the ropes and goes over to where Duke
and the rest of Apollo's camp is.

Apollo Jr. slowly opens his eyes. He looks at everyone with a
very glazed over expression.

DUKE
Hey son. You're alright.

A DOCTOR begins to run Apollo through a series of tests.
Apollo then spots Rocky standing behind everyone.

APOLLO JR.
Hey Rocky.

Apollo holds out his glove to him. Rocky takes it and
squeezes his hand.

APOLLO JR.
I looked pretty good in there, huh?

ROCKY
Yeah.

APOLLO JR.
Just like my old man?

Rocky smiles a bit sheepishly at that question. It is clear
Apollo has no idea what has just happened to him in that
ring.

ROCKY
Just like your old man.

I never thought Apollo Snr and his missus had any kids?!

So what happens next?

It looks as though Apollo Jr will turn out to be the main story of the film in this script but it's not, he doesn't play too big a role in it. I will post the next bit tomorrow!

This is not actually the official script. In the real one which Sly published n his mag, it opens with Adrian dying.

Does anyone else think Clubber Laing would have destroyed Ivan Drago by the way, Drago was a strong but unproven amateur, whose only contest was against a completley shot Apollo Creed, while Laing had decimated all the top ten including Balboa. I believe the fact that it took Rocky 15 rounds to KO Drago says more about how much he had slipped than anything positive about the challenger.

INT. DRESSING ROOM - 40 MINUTES LATER

Apollo wears his normal clothes and sits quietly on a table.
Duke stands next to him getting his training stuff in order.

Rocky stands in front of Apollo as Adrian and Paulie look on.

Apollo is devastated.

ROCKY
Yo kid, it's no big thing? I mean I
lost a bunch of times in my career
before I made anything of myself.
You..., you got more now then I
ever did.

APOLLO JR.
Yeah, except heart.

DUKE
Don't say that, Apollo.

ROCKY
Yeah, don't ever say that. It takes
heart to get up and train everyday.
It takes heart to just to get
inside of that ring.

APOLLO JR.
Yeah.

ROCKY
It's like when I lost the title to
Clubber Lang. I was so high on
myself, I thought nothing could
stop me. I neglected everything
that I'd been taught. And when
Mickey wasn't around to remind me,
your father did. Everyone knows you
got heart, you just got caught,
that's all.

Apollo thinks about what Rocky just said.

One of the CUSTODIANS pops his head into the room.

CUSTODIAN
Hey everyone, just to give you a
heads up we're gonna be closing up
shop in about ten minutes.

ROCKY
Okay, yeah. We were just talking
here.

CUSTODIAN
Great fight tonight, Apollo.

The Custodian leaves.

APOLLO JR.
What was great about it? I lost?

DUKE
You'll be back, champ. You got me,
you got him...

Duke puts his hand on Rocky's shoulder.

ROCKY
Absolutely.

DUKE
And you got the spirit of your
father in you.

ROCKY
Yeah, you got it all, kid. This
thing tonight, it's nothing. They
say if you don't have a loss by the
time you fight for the title,
there's something wrong.

Apollo looks at Rocky and smiles a little bit.

EXT. BOXING ARENA - NIGHT

The wind blows a little on this cold Philadelphia night.

Rocky, Adrian and Paulie walk out to their car together.
Adrian notices that Rocky is unusually quiet.

ADRIAN
What's the matter?

ROCKY
Ah you know Adrian, the kid, he
really needs someone right now.

ADRIAN
He's got his mother.

ROCKY
I know, it's just, when you're a
fighter it kinda makes it easier if
you have another fighter around
when you need to talk about
something that's fight related.

PAULIE
Like a shrink for a palooka's head.

ROCKY
Yeah. It's just, Apollo needs
someone now and we're going out of
town.

PAULIE
Oh yeah, Jr.'s being sworn in.

ROCKY
Yeah.

Rocky stops walking for a moment. A big smile comes to his
face.

ROCKY
Can you believe it? Our son? A
Balboa? The Kid's become a lawyer?

ADRIAN
He had the right upbringing.

ROCKY
Yeah, yeah, I guess he did.
(beat)
I just thought, Apollo's fight
tonight, The Kid's swearing in in
the next few days it was like we
were all reaching something.

ADRIAN
We are reaching something.

PAULIE
Yeah, I'll tell you what we're
reaching. Freezing temperatures,
lets get in the car, already.

INT. BALBOA HOME - NIGHT

Rocky and Adrian walk into their modest suburban home. A
large dog named WIMPY comes out to greet them.

Rocky gets on his knees and begins playing with him.

ROCKY
Ahhhhh, Wimpy how you doing? You
miss us boy?

Adrian smiles and walks off to another part of the house.

ROCKY
We missed you?

Rocky plays with Wimpy for a little while longer.

ROCKY
You hungry? Come on, I'll fix you
something to eat.

Rocky walks off to the kitchen area and Wimpy follows him.

INT. KITCHEN - NIGHT

Rocky walks into the kitchen and Wimpy stops and sits before
he steps on the kitchen floor.

ROCKY
Hey look at that...

Rocky picks up a bowl off the floor that says WIMPY on it and
goes over to a cabinet. He takes out some dog food.

ROCKY
Yo Adrian, the pooch remembered not
to come in here. That's great. I
never knew dogs could learn like
that.

Rocky puts some food in a bowl and puts it down in front of
Wimpy. He walks off.

As he does Wimpy walks out onto the kitchen floor lays down
and begins to eat his food out of the bowl.

INT. ROCKY'S STUDY -

Rocky walks into his study. It is plastered from wall to wall
with memorabilia from all of Rocky's fights.

We see pictures, his championship belt, magazine covers, etc.
.

Rocky looks around a little bit staring at all the memories.
He then walks over to picture of Rocky and Apollo with their
two young sons.

He stares at it for a long moment remembering everything
about his best friend.

ROCKY
I miss you, Apollo.

Rocky stares at the picture for a little while longer and
then turns the light off in the study.

INT. LARGE AUDITORIUM - DAY

Rocky, Adrian and Paulie stand among the many families who
have convened to watch a family member or loved one be sworn
in as lawyers.

A large banner hangs in the background that reads:

UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, BERKELEY

A large group of people stand up with their hands in the air
as they recite the "swearing in" speech to become a
practicing attorney.

Amongst all these people we see ROCKY JR.(26) who beams with
pride and purpose. Here is a boy who became a man knowing
both sides of life. One of wealth and one of poverty.

Paulie tries to find Rocky Jr. with a pair of binoculars
around his neck.

PAULIE
I can't see the kid it's like a
forest in there.

ROCKY
He's there. I can't see him either
but I know he's there.

ADRIAN
Our son's a lawyer.

ROCKY
I know. If I get in trouble he can
bail me out.

EXT. LARGE AUDITORIUM -

People walk around and convene after the ceremony.

Rocky Jr. runs up to Rocky, Adrian and Paulie.

ROCKY
Hey, you did it!!

Rocky gives his son a warm hug.

ADRIAN
Congratulations.

She hugs him and gives him a kiss on the cheek.

PAULIE
Good going, kid.

ROCKY JR.
Thank you. I'm just glad you all
could make it out here.

ROCKY
You were great up there. Saying all
those words with everyone else.
You're gonna be one heck of an
attorney. People are gonna pay you
good money for what you do.

ROCKY JR.
I don't know about that yet, Dad.
I'm plan on doing stuff on a
sliding scale.

ROCKY
Really? What's that mean?

PAULIE
It means he won't get paid.

ADRIAN
No, it doesn't mean that at all.
He's just chosen to use his law
degree to do some good in the
world. To help people. They pay
what they can.

ROCKY
That's great. That's what you
should do. You got a great mind,
kid.

ROCKY JR.
Thanks dad, but you and mom gave it
to me.

Rocky puts his arm around Adrian.

ROCKY
More your mom then me, I've taken
some shots you know.

ROCKY JR.
So what do you wanna do now?

ROCKY
What do we wanna do? What do you
think we wanna do? We wanna
celebrate.

ROCKY JR.
Alright!!! I was gonna have Jenny
meet us whereever we go.

ROCKY
Who's Jenny?

ROCKY JR.
My girlfriend dad. I've been with
her almost two years.

ROCKY
Jenny, oh yeah!!! She's a good kid.

ROCKY JR.
You guys don't mind, right?

ROCKY
No, that's great.

ADRIAN
We'd love to see her.

PAULIE
Any girlfriend of yours is a
girlfriend of mine.

Rocky and Adrian put their arms around Rocky Jr.. Paulie
follows from behind as they leave the auditorium area.

INT. APOLLO'S APARTMENT - EVENING

Apollo Jr. sits watching a boxing match on pay-per view.

In front of him is some cocaine cut into three lines. He
snorts a line and focuses his attention on the television
screen.

We see current heavyweight champion, Britain's LLOYD
DONOVAN(27) fighting CARTER BENNETT(29). Lloyd is 6'8 with an
Adonis-like physique. At 265 lbs. he is striking to look at.

Lloyd fights with extreme precision and is surprisingly
mobile for such a large heavyweight.

He corners Bennett against the ropes and unleashes a fury of
punches all calculated to decapitate their target.

Bennett sags against the ropes and goes to the ground. His
defeated body hangs on to the bottom ring rope.

Apollo wipes his nose.

A beautiful women named JESSICA(22) walks over with a plate.
There are two slices of pizza on it.

JESSICA
Don't snort it all.

APOLLO JR.
I'm gonna leave you some. Did you
heat up those slices?

JESSICA
Of course?

APOLLO JR.
You make mine crispy, how I like
it?

JESSICA
Yes.

Jessica leans in and does a line herself.

APOLLO JR.
That was the biggest one.

Jessica laughs and wipes her nose a little.

JESSICA
You're the biggest one.

She moves in and kisses Apollo on the cheek and neck. He
closes his eyes for a moment but continues to stare at the
television screen.

APOLLO JR.
There's my man, Duke.

Lloyd Donovan stands being interviewed by Brad Jason. Next to
him is Duke and behind them is GEORGE WASHINGTON DUKE and
MERLIN SHEETS.

Lloyd is well spoken and carries himself like a man 100% in
charge of his life and career. He is with George Washington
Duke but that arrangement is purely business.

BRAD
You made quick work of that guy in
there.

LLOYD
Well Brad, it's like I'm always
telling you, I am the best boxer in
the world. Period. There is no one
better. Accept no substitutes. If
you're not fit to be in the ring
with me, you'll find out real
quick.

BRAD
There was a lot speculation on some
internet sites that your trainer
pulling double duties last night
with Apollo Creed Jr. and here with
you tonight, that your camp may not
be taking Carter Bennett too
seriously.

LLOYD
You know, that's one of the biggest
misconceptions about me. I am 43
and O, I've been doing this stuff
since I was a baby. Apollo Creed,
may G-d rest his soul, he was a
legend. He broke the mold. Without
him there would be no me.
That was Duke's first big fighter,
he's got a tie to that family. So I
understand when he's got to split
the duties. He's the best in the
business.

Brad motions toward Duke.

BRAD
Lets bring him in here? Duke...

Duke steps up and Lloyd puts his arm around him.

BRAD
Your guy looked pretty good in
there tonight?

DUKE
Yeah, well he trains hard and we
work on things.

BRAD
Too bad about Creed last night?

Apollo Jr. stares blankly at the screen.

DUKE
Well, he's young. It was only his
fourth fight but...

At this point George Washington Duke steps into the
conversation.

GEORGE WASHINGTON DUKE
Please forgive me Brad, but there's
so much commotion over the great
Lloyd Donovan that I wouldn't think
of being left out of the
conversation.

BRAD
Of course not...

GEORGE WASHINGTON DUKE
What you have here is a truly
devastating heavyweight champion,
who is vaulting toward a career of
catastrophic magnitude and I want
to be there every step of the way.

George Washington Duke continues to rant and rave.

Apollo leans over Jessica and begins to snort another line.
He gets about halfway through it and then something happens.

He seems like he's choking. He starts to cough and his nose
begins to bleed.

Apollo's body crashes to the floor and begins convulsing.

JESSICA
(shrieking)
AHHAHAHAHAHHHHH!!! APOLLO!!!
APOLLO!!! BABY!!!

Apollo continues to writhe on the ground as his eyes roll
into the back of his head.

INT. PIZZA PARLOR - NIGHT

Rocky, Adrian, Paulie, Rocky Jr. and his girlfriend JENNY all
sit together enjoying a mean of pasta, pizza and lasagna.

Jenny is "Berkeley girl". She wears a flowing sundress, no
make-up but is very attractive.

We see that other then a salad she has eaten very little of
the food that has been ordered.

ADRIAN
Would you like some lasagna,
Jennifer?

JENNIFER
No thank, Mrs. Balboa.

ADRIAN
Please, call me Adrian.

ROCKY JR.
Jenny is a vegetarian.

ROCKY
A what?

ROCKY JR.
A vegetarian.

PAULIE
It means she doesn't eat any meat.
Some don't even touch dairy
products.

ROCKY JR.
Exactly, Uncle Paulie.

PAULIE
See, I read.

ROCKY
Speaking of reading, you know
something, kid, you got a lot of
options now that you got your
degree.

ROCKY JR.
I'm thinking about going into
private practice back home.

Rocky and Adrian look at each other; elated.

ADRIAN
I think that would be wonderful.
I'm sure your father could get you
a lot of clients.

Rocky Jr. laughs.

PAULIE
Yeah, you could start with me.

ROCKY
No, your mother's right. There's a
lot of people at the gym that need
legal help, it'd be good too.
Inexpensive. Keep it in the family.

PAULIE
Just don't rip no one off.

ADRIAN
Paulie...

ROCKY
What are you talking about the kids
not gonna rip anyone off. Are you
kid?

ROCKY JR.
Jenny might come out too.

Rocky and Adrian take in what their son has just told them.

PAULIE
Hey, good for you kid?

JENNY
I'm in love with your son, Mr. and
Mrs. Balboa. I believe in him and
the things that he's doing.

ROCKY
(to Adrian)
Sounds kinda like you and me?

At this moment Adrian's cellphone goes off.

PAULIE
What is that thing?

Adrian takes it out of her purse.

ADRIAN
I'm sorry, I should've turned it
off at the table.

Adrian looks at the number.

ADRIAN
It's Duke.

She pushes a button.

ADRIAN
Hello? Yes, Duke. Yes, hold on one
second.

Rocky takes the phone.

ROCKY
Yo Duke, how you doing? I wish you
could be here. We're having a
celebration and everything. The
kids talking about moving back to
Phili, might be getting married...

Rocky Jr. gives his father a look. Jenny smiles.

ROCKY
Oh, that might be a way off.
(pause; shocked)
What?!? When?!

Yep, and you see them in Rocky II. When he is reading the hate mail.

INT. HOSPITAL - NIGHT

Rocky, Adrian and Paulie walk down a hospital corridor. They
come up to Duke and MRS. CREED who are outside the hospital
room.

Mrs. Creed and Adrian hug.

ADRIAN
I'm so sorry to hear about Apollo.

MRS. CREED
Why? Why do things like this keep
happening to my babies?

Rocky talks to Duke.

ROCKY
How is he?

DUKE
His condition is still critical but
the doctor says he should be okay.
They just want to keep him in this
unit as a precautionary measure.

ROCKY
Well, that's good news.

Mrs. Creed gives Rocky a warm hug.

MRS. CREED
Oh Rocky, why would Apollo do
something like this?

ROCKY
He's a young a kid yeah know? They
try things. They think they're
invincible. He's gonna be fine you
watch.

MRS. CREED
I hope so. I really hope so. I
don't think I could take it if I
lost him.

ROCKY
You're not gonna lose him.

ADRIAN
Yeah, Apollo is gonna be fine.
Anything you need us to do, just
ask.

ROCKY
Yeah, anything, I made q promise to
Apollo way back when, should
anything ever happen I'd take care
of you guys.

MRS. CREED
You don't need to do that. We can
manage.

ROCKY
Oh, I know that, you're Mrs. Apollo
Creed. But I wanna do it. For
Apollo.

INT. CAR - NIGHT

Rocky, Adrian and Paulie are driving. They sit it in silence
as some music plays on the radio.

PAULIE
Hey Rock, if you don't mind me
asking, how are you gonna pay for
all those medical bills when your
heads barely above water at Mick's
Gym?

Rocky looks at Adrian. She takes his hand.

ROCKY
Uh, I don't know. We'll manage.

PAULIE
More like you're gonna need a
magician to cover all that.

ADRIAN
Paulie stop.

PAULIE
I'm just saying. I'm there with the
guy all day, I see the numbers.

ROCKY
I'm not gonna worry about it
Paulie, yeah know? Whatever happens
happens. We'll figure out a way to
pay for both. I promised Apollo. If
he was here and I wasn't, he'd do
the same for me.

EXT. MIGHTY MICK'S BOXING GYM - MORNING

Rocky walks up to the gym. He takes out a key and goes
inside.

INT. MIGHTY MICK'S BOXING GYM -

Rocky walks toward his desk.

The gym has been fixed up considerably since we have last
seen it. There are new heavy bags, speed bags, a few
treadmills, weight benches, etc.

The walls are neatly decorated with pictures and more
memorabilia from Rocky's career. Next to that is information
about gym hours, membership fees, lockers, etc. .

There are large cut outs of Muhammad Ali, Rocky Marciano and
Evander Holyfield on the walls.

Behind Rocky's desk are two portraits. One is of Mickey
Goldmill and the other is of Apollo Creed.

Under the picture of Mickey it says "AN ANGEL.

Under Apollo it says "A TRUE CHAMPION TIL THE END".

Rocky stares at the pictures of the two men who have helped
him so much in his life. He is a man who knows what and who
he owes.

A voice is HEARD.

VOICE
Hey Rocky is the gym open or what?

Rocky turns to face two, twelve year old girls. One's is
Mexican and her name is OLGA. The other is black and her name
is TRACY.

Rocky smiles at the two girls.

ROCKY
What do you think? I'm here aren't
I?

INT. MIGHTY MICK'S BOXING GYM - AFTERNOON/A FEW WEEKS LATER

The gym is almost full with people. Some hit the heavy bags,
others spar, while others lift weights, etc. .

Rocky sits at his desk. Across from him sits Rocky Jr.. They
survey the gym.

ROCKY
You know, if you wanted to get
started, I wouldn't mind you
running your law business out of
here.

Rocky Jr. smiles.

ROCKY JR.
I don't know how clients would feel
about coming to a boxing gym to
discuss their legal issues, dad.

ROCKY
Yeah, or maybe there's a small
office in the building you could
rent?

ROCKY JR.
Yeah, I'll see. I gotta find out
about taking the bar exam in
Philadelphia.

ROCKY
You mean you gotta go through that
test all over again?

ROCKY JR.
Yeah, they have a different one for
each state.

Olga calls to Rocky.

OLGA
Hey Rocky, are you gonna work my
corner?

ROCKY
I'm sorry Olga, I was over here
talking business with my son.

TRACY
That's your son?

ROCKY
Yeah why? You don't think he looks
like me?

OLGA
No.

TRACY
He's much cuter then you.

Rocky and Rocky Jr. laugh.

ROCKY
Thank you. You're too kind.

Paulie comes inside. In one hand he holds a bag of greasy
food and the mail. In the other he holds are an extra large
soda.

PAULIE
Yo Rock and Jr., whaddya say?

ROCKY JR.
Hi Uncle Paulie.

PAULIE
Hey kid.
(beat)
Here's the mail, Rock.

Rocky takes the mail from Paulie and starts looking through
it. He finds a letter that says:

CITY ORDINANCE - OPEN IMMEDIATELY

Rocky opens the letter and starts to read it. After a few
moments he looks at Paulie and Rocky Jr..

ROCKY JR.
What's it say?

ROCKY
I'm not sure.

ROCKY JR.
Let me see it.

Rocky Jr. takes the letter and looks at it. He looks at his
father.

ROCKY
They're gonna take Uncle Mickey's
Gym.

INT. OFFICE - DAY

Rocky, Adrian and Rocky Jr. sit across from BYRON WESTER.
Byron handles all the zoning for new buildings that go up in
the city.

BYRON
Mr. Balboa, I'm sorry to have to
tell you this but we have the right
of imminent domain.

ROCKY
You mean you can just take Mickey's
gym?

BYRON
I'm afraid so.

ADRIAN
How come this is happening now? The
gym has been there for over 40
years and you're just doing this
now.

BYRON
It's part of an urban renewal
program the Mayor is implementing.
It's something that he ran on in
his campaign. It was a big part of
his platform.

ROCKY
Isn't there someone we can talk to
about this? I mean this gym, it's
like a home for a lot of the people
that come in. They need it.

BYRON
You will of course be compensated
but I have to tell you, the
property in that area has become so
devalued you're not going to get
anything close to what Mr. Goldmill
bought it for.

Rocky almost jumps out of his chair.

ROCKY
Devalued? What are you talking
about, devalued?

BYRON
Mr. Balboa, please don't get upset,
but you've got to face the facts.
For many years that gym was almost
in a decrepit state.
Now you've come in and you've done
some terrific work, but that gym is
only one part of a larger area that
needs to be redone.

ROCKY
So all that I did? All that those
people, those kids have done make
it an alternative to the kinda life
I had to have growing up, all
that's for nothing.

BYRON
Mr. Balboa.

ROCKY JR.
Lets go, dad.

Rocky Jr. stands up and begins to lead his father out of the
room.

ROCKY
No, I wanna talk about this...

ROCKY JR.
We'll figure something out. This
guy can't do anything.

ROCKY
They can't just take my gym.

ROCKY JR.
Lets just go.

Rocky looks at his son and regains his composure a bit.

ROCKY
Okay, alright. We'll figure
something out.

ROCKY JR.
Yeah.

They both walk out of the office.

Byron looks at Adrian who is still sitting there.

BYRON
Mrs. Balboa...

ADRIAN
I don't understand how you can do
this. That gym it's a landmark.
It symbolizes something to everyone
in that area. To all the children
and families who don't have it so
good as you and I. It says that you
can, Mr. Wester.

Adrian stands up and starts to walk out of the room.

BYRON
When the whole area is re-done
don't you think that will also be a
positive statement?

Adrian stops at the doorway and turns to face him.

ADRIAN
Mr. Wester, these people aren't
dumb. Contrary to how you see them,
to how you see us, they're not
dumb. All this is going to be them
is a way to make money, and unless
you come in and provide something
more, what ever re-do is just going
to come undone anyway.

Adrian walks out Byron Wester's office.

Am i correct in thinking Roy Jones Jr will be playing the part of rockys main foe in the sixth installment.

Well in this script it's a tall British guy - would be very funny if it was Audley Harrison!

Nah it gets better. I think it's as good as can be for a Rocky VI movie. Only thing is that his eventual opponent isn't a bad ass.

EXT. CITY HALL - DAY

The place is bustling with activity. People walk around,
others eat lunch, some people sit and talk, etc.

Rocky, Adrian and Rocky Jr. walk outside. They start walking
down some steps.

ROCKY
We got Apollo's bills now got this.

ADRIAN
We'll manage. Somehow.

ROCKY JR.
You might be able to match them in
equity. Maybe buy out their option
to destroy Uncle Mickey's Gym.

ROCKY
You think that's possible?

ROCKY JR.
I don't know. I'm gonna look into
it.

ROCKY
But we still need money.

ADRIAN
Maybe we could have a fund raiser
at the gym?

ROCKY
Yeah, a few exhibition fights.

ADRIAN
No Rocky, that's not what I meant.
Have auctions and have people make
donations. Maybe get some of the
people with deep pockets that were

fans of yours to contribute?

ROCKY
I'm just talking about a couple of
simple exhibition fights. We bill
it like I'm stepping back into the
ring, but I'm not see?

ADRIAN
What about your health? No doctors
will permit you to fight.

ROCKY
Don't you understand I won't really
be fighting. It'll just be like kid
stuff.

ADRIAN
I don't like the idea of you
getting back into the ring, for ANY
reason, Rocky.

They get to the bottom of the steps.

ROCKY JR.
Well, I gotta talk with some firms
about clerking for them while I
study for the bar.

ROCKY
You have appointments already?

ROCKY JR.
A few, yeah. Jenny's gonna be come
out soon.

ROCKY
That's great. You can both stay
with us.

ROCKY JR.
Thanks Dad.

ADRIAN
Good luck.

Adrian gives him a hug and kiss on the cheek.

ROCKY
Yo, you want a ride?

ROCKY JR.
No thanks, I'll take the bus. You
got work to do at the gym, right?

ROCKY
Kid, there's always work.

Rocky Jr. starts to walk away.

ROCKY JR.
Then you better get back there,
right?

Rocky Jr. smiles at both his parents and resumes walking.

Rocky and Adrian watch him as he goes. There little boy has
truly become his own man.

ROCKY
Our baby, he's all grown up.

Rocky and Adrian hold one another.

ADRIAN
Yeah, he is. Aren't you proud of
him?

ROCKY
Me? Absolutely.

INT. MIGHTY MICK'S BOXING GYM - DAY/A FEW DAYS LATER

Rocky stands on the ring apron working with LEON GREBS(24).
Grebs has his boxing gear on and is sparring against MITCH
WYLER(32).

Rocky holds a mouthpiece and a water bottle.

ROCKY
You gotta commit to every punch.
That's what's gonna get you inside.
And if he's moving don't just go
for the head. You wanna hit him
anywhere you can, you got it?

GREBS
Yeah, Rock.

Rocky puts some water on the mouthpiece and puts it Grebs
mouth.

The bell sounds.

Grebs goes out and begins employing the things Rocky has just
told him.

ROCKY
Yeah, that's it.

Tracy walks up to Rocky. She has a very disheartened look on
her face.

TRACY
Hey Rocky?

Rocky sees Tracy and a huge smile comes to his face.

ROCKY
Yo Tracy, how yeah doin? Shouldn't
you be in school?

TRACY
(glum)
We're off today.

ROCKY
Really, and you came to the gym on
your off day? Now that's
dedication.

TRACY
My Mom told me they're gonna be
tearing down the gym. Is that true?

Rocky thinks about what the best answer to that question
could be.

ROCKY
Not exactly, you see we own the gym
and there's some people that sorta
own it a little more, but don't
worry whatever happens we'll still
have a place.

TRACY
But what about this place?

ROCKY
Uh Tracy, uhh, I don't know.

TRACY
If you move this gym I won't be
able to come there. My Mom only
lets me come here because she works
close and she likes to be close to
me during the day. If you move I
won't be able to come here anymore.
Same with Olga.

ROCKY
Look, we're gonna work something
out. You got nothing to worry about
alright?

TRACY
If you say so.

ROCKY
I say so. Nobody's gonna take this
gym.

Tracy smiles at Rocky.

TRACY
You promise?

ROCKY
I promise, kid. No go and get
changed.

Tracy happily skips away and Rocky watches her. He turns his
attention back to Grebs sparring session.

INT. ROCKY'S GYM - NIGHT

Rocky tidies up a few things around the gym as he prepares to
close up for the night.

Rocky Jr. walks in carrying a folder with some papers in it.
Jenny is with him.

ROCKY JR.
Hey Dad.

ROCKY
Yo Kid, how yeah doing.

ROCKY JR.
I'm good.

ROCKY
Jenny, how's Phili treating you so
far?

JENNY
So far so good Mr. Balboa.

ROCKY
Jenny, please call me Rocky.

JENNY
Okay, Rocky.

ROCKY JR.
Dad, I got great news about the
gym.

ROCKY
Oh really? Lets hear it.

ROCKY JR.
Okay, I did some reading into the
county zoning laws and it says any
building that's been here for at
least forty years has to be
considered a landmark.

ROCKY
This place has been here for much
longer then that.

ROCKY JR.
Exactly, and because of that, if
the proprietor can contest the
claim of imminent domain made by a
buyer, the city, as long as you can
buy them out you can keep the gym.

ROCKY
That's beautiful.

ROCKY JR.
Here's the bad news.

Rocky looks at Jenny.

ROCKY
He's such a lawyer.

Jenny smiles.

ROCKY JR.
You gotta buy the entire building.
Not just Uncle Mickey's gym.

ROCKY
Buy this whole place?

ROCKY JR.
Yeah, because you're in effect
taking away their plan to
reconstruct this entire place they
have to be compensated. If you
can't match that then you have to
take whatever offer you get for
this place.

ROCKY
How much is the whole building?

ROCKY JR.
Over five million dollars.

ROCKY
Whoa!!!

ROCKY JR.
I know, Dad.

ROCKY
Five million dollars? Where do they
think I can get that kinda money?

ROCKY JR.
They don't think you can get that
kinda money. That's why it's set up
this way.

JENNY
It's like an option that isn't
really an option.

ROCKY
You can say that again. Five
million, I used to have that, I
used to be able to get that in one
night.

ROCKY JR.
Dad, you can't fight again.

ROCKY
Not in the states.

ROCKY JR.
Period. You could get killed in the
ring.

ROCKY
I gotta do something. They're taken
everything away from me again.

ROCKY JR.
Why don't you just take their money
and use it as a down payment on
another gym?

ROCKY
No, you don't understand. It's not
just any gym. I mean this place,
it's like all that's left of the
old days. Of Mickey and Apollo. I
can't just let them take it. Not
when it means so much to everybody
here.

ROCKY JR.
Dad, you haven't fought in years?

ROCKY
So look at Ray Leonard? He came out
of retirement and beat Hagler in
his first fight. George Foreman
took ten years off before he
regained the title.

ROCKY JR.
Yeah, but they had never been in
the kinds of fights you had. You
said it after the Drago fight, you
fought so hard it was like you
broke something inside yourself.
What makes you think it's been put
back together?

Rocky stares at his son. He turns and punches one of the
heavybags a little bit.

ROCKY JR.
You want a ride home?

ROCKY
No, thanks. I'll walk. I need to
clear my head. I got Apollo's son
in the hospital and now this. It's
like they say when it rains, it
pours.

Rocky Jr. and Jenny walk out of the gym.

ROCKY JR.
You sure you don't want a ride
home?

ROCKY
Yeah, I'm sure.

JENNY
Goodbye Rocky.

ROCKY
Bye Jenny.

ROCKY JR.
Bye Dad.

ROCKY
Bye Kid.

They leave.

Rocky stands there for a moment and then hits one of the
speed bags. He stares at it as the bag pounds the headboard
with tremendous force.

For a moment, Rocky starts to do some work on it. He is
slower but his timing is still very accurate.

Rocky stops and walks over to his desk. He takes his jacket
and puts it on. As he does he looks up at Mickey and Apollo
who both seem to be staring down at him.

ROCKY
What would you do?

Rocky stares at the pictures almost as if he's actually
waiting for an answer.

He turns and starts walking out of the gym.

ROCKY
Stupid question, I know what you
would do. I know it.

EXT. STREETS - NIGHT

Rocky walks along the streets. As he does, every so often
people pass him and say "Yo Rock" or "Hey Champ!".

He continues walking thinking about everything.

After a few moments, he throws a few punches into the air. He
does this a few more times intermittently.

Slowly, his pace begins to quicken until Rocky has reached a
full run. He continues to throw punches in the air as he
increases his pace.

Rocky continues running until he is completely winded. He
bends down and then throws his body back holding his chest.

Rocky stares up at the stars in the sky almost resigned to
what he has to do.

INT. HOTEL BALLROOM - DAY

Rocky sits with Paulie and a few of the other trainers from
the gym. Across from them sit Lloyd Donovan, Duke and the
rest of his camp. Both Rocky and Lloyd have microphones.

Behind them is a huge banner that reads:

INDEPENDENCE DAY - LLOYD DONOVAN vs. ROCKY BALBOA - 12 ROUND
HEAVYWEIGHT BOUT

In the middle of them stands George Washington Duke holding
court with a packed room of press and photographers from his
podium.

GEORGE WASHINGTON DUKE
Ladies and Gentlemen, Gentlemen and
Ladies, how the times have changed.
Years ago, you couldn't have
hypnotized Mr. Balboa into the
ring, but that was when he was just
fighting for himself.
Give him a cause, give him an
insurmountable challenge and let me
tell you, he will all but ask for
the opportunity to rise to the
occasion as the man of the people
he is. So now, in a bout of fistic
and financial genius we have
arrange a match whereby everyone
benefits. On July 4th the
day this great country declared
itself free from the British,
Britain's Lloyd Donovan will be
defending his Heavyweight title
against one of the greatest
combatants since George Washington
himself, to try and even the score.
And Rocky Balboa will be stepping
back into the ring for a one time
only chance to see if he can
continue this country's great
fighting legacy and beat his most
difficult opponent to date, FATHER
TIME

Paulie leans into Rocky.

PAULIE
I wish he'd shut up. I'm getting
hungry.

GEORGE WASHINGTON DUKE
Now, I will silence myself and open
the floor up to some questions.

A RANDOM REPORTER stands up holding a note pad.

REPORTER
Mr. Duke, why is this bout
happening in Wisconsin?

GEORGE WASHINGTON DUKE
Excellent question. Brilliant
observation. I know why they
assigned you to cover this because
they knew that nothing would get
passed your privileged pen.
(beat
The reason we chose Wisconsin is
quite simple. Many states have
diagnosed Mr. Balboa with having a
brain condition that he may or may
not have. I am not a doctor so I am
not fit to make such judgements.
If a man wants to fight then far be
it from me to stand in the way.
Wisconsin is still growing as a
boxing state and as such they are
not going to hold something against
Mr. Balboa that is clearly not of
his doing. Next question.

Brad Jason stands up holding a tape recorder.

GEORGE WASHINGTON DUKE
Ah yes, Brad Jason? The voice of
BOXING WITH BRAD. Ladies and
Gentlemen, Gentlemen and Ladies we
know that this is an event of epic
caliber and participance when Mr.
Brad Jason himself deems it worthy
for some his precious time.

Some in the press laugh while others just groan at what
George Washington Duke spouts.

BRAD
Thank you, Mr. Duke. I better start
rolling up my pants now.

Everyone cracks up at that comment.

BRAD
This question is for the champion.
Lloyd Donovan, you've done so well
at defending all of your titles,
meeting all your mandatories so
that they won't strip you of your
crown, why would you give up your
titles and engage in a bout that is
essentially a no win situation? If
you beat Balboa, you should beat
him, he's ancient. But if you lose
or the fight is tougher then you
expected that just proves a lot of
skeptics right about you.

George Washington Duke turns to Lloyd.

GEORGE WASHINGTON DUKE
The floor is yours Champion
Donovan.

LLOYD
Well, let me just start by saying I
have made a career of proving the
skeptics wrong.
When they said I was too big to be
a slick heavyweight, I proved them
wrong. When they said I didn't have
the chin to take a really hard
shot, I proved them wrong. When
they said, "If you pressure Lloyd
Donovan he'll fold" I folded them.
So you're always gonna have
skeptics Mr. Jason. I just looked
at this is as matter of dollars and
sense. I'm gonna make more money in
one night fighting the archaic Mr.
Balboa then I would fighting 3 of
the current number one contenders.
Then when I beat him, I can double
my money by beating the three guys
who fight for my vacant titles
which without me behind them are
essentially meaningless.

George Washington Duke turns to the press row. He is beaming.

GEORGE WASHINGTON DUKE
Great answer, Mr. Donovan. Mr.
Champion. I expect nothing less
from a man of your character and
education.

LLOYD
That's good, Mr. Duke. Because
nobody expects anything from you.

This sends the press row into hysterics.

GEORGE WASHINGTON DUKE
Anything else, Mr. Jason?

BRAD
Yeah, hey Rocky, what brings you
back? I thought you couldn't fight
anymore? Are you okay now?

All the attention in the room seems to shift to Rocky.

PAULIE
(whispering)
Tell the bum, next question.

ROCKY
(low; to Paulie)
No, it's fine.
(louder)

Why am I coming back?
I'm not coming back. This is one
fight. I'm just visiting.

Everyone cracks up again.

GEORGE WASHINGTON DUKE
Folks, I went to a press conference
for a boxing match and a comedy
show broke out. We're done for now,
but you'll have plenty of time over
the next few months to ask all the
questions you want. This was just a
taste of what a monumental event
this is going to be.
