Does anyone know if any of Garcia's fights are on tape? Also, are there any old magazine articles about either Garcia or any of his fights? He had a very interesting career to say the least.

I'm sure that you could find some articles in old Ring Magazines, I haven't done any research on Garcia but I think that Matt researched his record, so he may be able to tell you something.

Go to http://www.cyberboxingzone.com and find Journeymen & Tomato Cans. There is a great article on him by Enrique Encinosa.

Not only dd we have Enrique write about ARG (http://www.cyberboxingzone.com/boxing/b ... tm#enrique), we also published an excerpt by Ferdie Pacheco which includes great info on him

http://www.cyberboxingzone.com/boxing/ferdie.htm

The record matt and I put toghether includes some review of all the Ring mags as well as other boxing record books, along with some newspaper research that we did.

In all those reports in Ring, there was only one article/photo more than just a line or two. That appeared in 1976

The Taz: Can you offer some more details about the Angel Robinson Garcia fights that you saw- such as, opponents? What did you think of his style? Was he a shot fighter at that time? I'm interested in any first hand accounts of Garcia's fights.

The Taz: Thanks for the details on the Garcia-Gray fight. I remember seeing Gray lose to Roger Leonard on CCTV on the undercard of Leonard-Duran 1. By any chance did you see the Gray-Bunny Grant fight?

I can attest after a review of every issue of Ring magazine for the period of his career that the extent of the mentions of ARG were brief mentions in the "fight results" sections and one article from around 1976-1977 following one of his sunnyside gardens bouts; this article also included the only photo of ARG that I have seen. I seem to recall the same article quoting Eddie Futch as saying that ARG was an excellent fighter, and that he had seen him a bunch of times in Vegas.

Check out my article on Garcia in CBZ. I knew him, his trainer and several people who knew him well. The amazing thing is he was quite stoned on Spanish wine or herb superb for many of his fights. Even when not in shape he knew how to pace himself for 10 rounds. It is said that he died a couple of years ago. If there are films of him they must be easiest to find in Europe where he fought a lot of the big names. I have about 15 photos of him but no scanner...

I remember asking Mike about whether the ARG-Willie Monroe fight was a clean KO, and that is where the Futch comment came from. I believe Futch trained Monroe with Georgie Benton. Mike told me that Monroe didn't put Garcia down at all and stopped him on cuts.

I've also seen an action photo of ARG fighting Ismael Laguna in Paris, in the book put out by British writer Bob Mee around 1997 that has bio's of various fighters.

I have a British boxing magazine that says Ismael Laguna called Garcia the best fighter that he ever fought.Garcia stated in a New York Post interview(6-5-72)that he dropped Laguna 3 times and should have got the decision.Garcia also stated that the Laguna fight was his biggest purse-$6,000.
