people tend to forget walcott fought charles again because of his knockout of charles and then his knockout loss to rocky. but walcott gave charles a rematch and outpointed charles in a very close unanimous decision.

I watched highlights of this fight, it was a good fight, and it looked like charles had it in the bad after 11 then he kind of backed off and walcott came back and took a close decision. i didnt see the full fight so i wouldnt know who won. a very tactical fight.

according to jaclem, it was a very controversial decision and most ringsiders thought charles clearly won.

what do u think?? did charles do enough to win his title back??

Ive seen the fight. It was close but not controversial. Charles was tentative after nearly being decapitated in the previous match. He just let it go.

Did Charles ever floor Walcott?

I disagree. I thought Charles was robbed in the fight with Walcott. I agree totally with you though about Charles being tentative. That came more from the 1948 fight with Sam Baroudi though as he never really was an aggressive heavyweight since Baroudi died at his hands. If I recall correctly, I think I had the bout 9-6 for Charles.

In regard to Walcott being knocked down by Charles, BoxRec says that Walcott was floored in the 9th round in the second fight, but I think it was actually the opposite, with Charles having to hold off a strong rush by Walcott. Anyone remember?

i have the tape, charles did floor walcott in the 9th round of there 2nd fight. it was a beutifully timed and fast hard left hook by charles. walcott threw a left hook and missed, and without missing a beat charles threw a left hook that floored walcott for a 9 count. walcott seemed very hurt, he almost didnt get up.

Thanks for clarifying that. For some reason I was thinking Charles was down, but I haven't seen the second fight in quite a while. Either way, Charles and Walcott put on interesting fights (at least 2, 3, and 4; I don't know if 1 was even recorded). They might not have been the most entertaining, but they were pretty intriguing from a technical point of view.

Still, Charles was still short changed in the fourth fight against Walcott.

The entire fight exists, just as the entire fight of Dempsey-Tunney I and II exist. It is just never shown; you have to get them from a fight collector.

It was very close. Could've gone either way. Since Walcott was the defending champ, I think the decision was fair.

the entire dempsey tunney 1 fight does NOT exist. Most of it exists, a longer version than is regularly shown, not complete though.
