Who would win this fight?I thought Gomez was awesome.Even though he lost to Sanchez in those days,he was an executioner.I think he would have been too mobile & slick for Olivares, who while tough & a bomber, couldn't compete with all of the skills Gomez would bring.Look at the EXCELLENT fight with Gomez & Pintor.By then Gomez had begun to age,and slow down, but he still pulled it out,and Pintor was tough as nails.

Great matchup!... I think the result depends a bit on when you are matching them. Both were past their best by the time they went up to Feather... but I'd pick the Olivares who lost to Arguello to beat the Featherweight Gomez. In their primes, a bantamweight Olivares vs a superbantam Gomez this would have been one of the all time classics in the vein of Gomez vs Pintor... but I think Olivrares had better boxing skills than he is credited for and he was a bit stronger than Gomez... so I see it going into the late rounds and Olivares winning on a 13th or 14th rounds stoppage or ko... he'd probably get floored along the way but over the distance he'd be too strong and Gomez would mark up badly and be worn down by Rubens tremendous punches... :box: :box: :box:

Great matchup - At JFW this fight is better suited for Gomez - Olivares was at his best at BW -

I'd take Gomez late round TKO -

I have to go with gomez by KO. Why? I think he would have done the same thing that he did to Zarate and Pintor great fighters but in the end Gomez power and boxing ability would have been to much for olivares.

Gomez was the best at 122,great body puncher, brutal power, and good defense when he chose to use it.Olivares's somewhat shaky chin cannot be overlooked, fan favorite or not, especially against Gomez.Bazooka by mid round ko.
