Robin Reid's return.

It warrants it own thread - mentioned on the Harrison thread. I don't think any site has mentioned it before but it looks like Reid has a fight lined up on the 10th of November in Philly.
It could really signal the end of Reid, it looks a toughie - his opponent has beaten the likes of Richard Grant (Beat James Butler), Thomas Reid (also beat Butler) and Donnel Wiggins (former NABF Light Heavyweight champion). He is undefeated in 19 fights (two draws) stopping 11.

Sounds like a tough one, would favour a prime Robin - but the Reid who got demolarised vs Lacy is going to struggle.

After the Lacy preformance, I can't understand why anyone would want to see Reid fight again.

I think his name still could provide him with some good fights here - vs fighters like Froch, Eastman, Dodson, or Woods, Oboh, at Light Heavy. However, surprised he is having this fight in the US - if it is true.
Whilst he was very poor and outclassed vs Lacy his name and previous recent decent wins (i.e. Magee) mean he can mix it in domestic class should he want that - much like Danny Williams is doing now. I don't think anyone wants to see Danny in World class again (for the time being at least) but fights with Skelton/Harrison/Hide etc would appeal.

Looks like Reid is being used as the first "big name" on this guys record. We will see if he has anything left by his performance in this fight I guess.

I've seen Mack once and he didn't look anything special.
It's sad that Reid is now being used as a trial horse, there will be zero motivation on his part at this stage, he obviously wasn't up for lacy so he has no reason to be up for this one. Hell, if the only thing he had left was that dangerous, accurate right counter he'd have a chance vs this guy, but he couldn't hit a barn door against lacy.

The only fight I could get interested in involving Reid would be against Froch for the British and Commonwealth titles held by Carl.
Robin can't cut it at top level and Reid-Froch would be a good British match up. I say it must involve Froch because he wouldn't stand the nonsense and cheating Reid brings with him.

I don't think Reid has anything left and expect Mack to beat him, just kick back, relax and wait for the excuses

Nothing against Reid,. i have enjoyed his career and he has been a good servant to British Boxing but i think his time has come and gone.

Reid holds because he can't sustain a decent pace or punch output, which adds up to him being shot in my reckoning.

Appologies then if it has been mentioned before, I never saw it - sorry.

How different life would have been if Roger Tillerman wasn't officiating against Ottke

Least he hasn't been involved in any medium/big fights since then

He seems to have largely been a judge rather than a reff, you will notice he also officiated on another Ottke fight as judge interesting

I'm going to have to disagree with the majority of you on this one. I like the look of Mack have seen him fight a couple of times and he looks as if he could be a fringe contender at the very least.
Reid is going to have his hands full. I think he will find it difficult to pin this kid down long enough to hit him cleanly , also taking into considertation this fight is in the states im going for Mack on points.

Reid didn't look too bad against Ottke (I thought he won the fight clearly) but since then he's looked awful and I think that his heart is just not in it anymore.

The problem is his legs aren't in it either, even at his peak Reid was a fighter who struggled with movement and never fought at a fast pace, now his reflexes are on the way out and his work rate is lower still it is obvious he no longer possesses the tools to compete at the highest level.
Isn't it amazing that no matter how much we discuss through the years the amount of fighters who refuse to call time on a clearly fading career and yet their is always a merry band ready to follow suit :(

I don't actually think Reid is shot. Just never that good?
I have done this before, but will do it again.
Vincenzo Nardiello - One of the worst champions I have seen, and it was close at the time of the stoppage. Richie Woodhall toyed with him, after Nardiello shocked him to the canvas. He was small, with no punch and not particularly great skills and a dodgy heart. Lucky to get the decision vs an ancient Malinga (more of him later in the post).
Giovanni Petorius - South African Middleweight, who wasn't World class - what did he do before or since. Gave Reid a tough fight, despite a disasterous start.
Henry Wharton - Undoubtedly, Reid's best ever performance. He looked world class in this fight - although Wharton was always that level below World class. It was Wharton's closest effort at winning a world belt - it was a MD.
Hassine Cherifi - Middleweight, who in mine and many others views beat a lacklusture Reid (who blamed the death of Diana on a poor performance). Cherifi was the most accomplished fighter that Reid has a W over no doubt (although a doubt over whether Reid should have had the W) - it was all at Middleweight though.
SugarBoy Malinga - What was the reasoning for this performance, terrible.
Joe Calzaghe - Big effort from Reid here, I thought he won. But lets not forget (and I don't like sticking up for Joe) Calzaghe was poisioned before the fight and apparently didn't spar in the build up to the fight. Joe was there for the taking and if Robin was an elite fighter, he should have put it beyond doubt.
Silvio Branco - As bad as the Malinga performance, what was the reasoning for this drab effort.
Julio Ceasar Vasquez - Very nearly lost his WBF Super Middleweight title to a past it Light Middleweight (who was fat). On my card it could have gone either way.
Sven Ottke - Up with the Wharton fight for his best performance, a good effort. Taking into account the refs docking in points etc - I thought it was a fair decision, it was fairly reffed then Robin should have won.
Brian Magee - Dirty, looked poor but got the win. In my opinion it was a good as most of his efforts excluding 2 maybe 3 fights.
Jeff Lacy - Lacked pace, looked rusty, robotic like and slow - although no worse than against Cherifi, Branco, Malinga and Vasquez - just Lacy is better than opponents.

I've watched Reid for years and while he's always had his flaws, at one point he was a very good fighter. I think the Malinga fight was a attitude problem... Reid just didn't seem up for it. Against Calzaghe I thought Reid could have nicked it and certainly merited a rematch.
The tragedy of Reids career is that after the fight with Calzaghe he sank almost into total obscurity, with lost of inactivity and fighting mostly inferior opposition and in the proccess he piddled away the rest of his peak years. Reid fights the way he does now because he nolonger has the tools to mount the offensive attacks that he used to do... I think its a mixture of age, inactivity and lack of training.
I think he hasn't really trained properly since the Ottke fight. His training for Lacey from what I've heard was just a joke.... which is a shame because a peak or fit Reid could have beaten Lacey who seemed very ordinary to me.
