Salvador Sanchez vs Alexis Arguello at Jr.Lightweight

This fight was rumored to be made, but at the time,Sanchez was Featherweight Champ, and Arguello Lightweight.I would think Arguello would be far too much for Salvador at lightweight. But,what if they met in dreamland in their primes, with Sanchez the featherweight Champ moving up to fight the "Explosive Thin Man" when he was Jr.Lightweight Champ?Arguello had the edge in power for sure, but the speed & mobility belonged to Sanchez. Both had EXCELLENT stamina, condioning, and heart. And they both had iron chins.Arguello would have the edge in reach & height, but remember,he was slow of foot, and a good boxer who used movement could definitely trouble him, just look at Pryor & Vilomar Fernandez. And they were both shorter than Alexis. And as good a fighter as Pryor was,I think Sanchez was a better boxer(not saying he was a better fighter than Pryor, just a better boxer),and I know he was a better boxer than Fernandez. This is a close one and tough to call,I like both fighters a lot.But maybe, just maybe,Sanchez would utilize a lot of movement and boxing, and capitalize on Arguelo's lack of speed,to eek out a close decision win.Sanchez by decision

i really like sanchez but i don't see him beating arguello at 130.tough fight and hard fought for sure but alexis to win by unanimous decision somewhere in the region of 9-6 in rounds.

Jesus, I love Sanchez, but he has become so overrated on this site recently. I know i'm going to be in the minority but I think Arguello who was just a good a technical boxer, would decision Sanchez over 15 rounds using his size strength and power advantage.

As we all know, anything can happen.Nothing is in stone, and I too could forsee Arguello being stronger, and winning a decision,BUT,it is not an impossibility for it to turn out the other way either.Like I said,it is a close one,so I'm not opposed to Arguello winning, just thought "what if",

Arguello for my money. Just a bit to much of a creep up in size with a legend like Arguello holding the crown. Sanchez wins in most any apples and apples discussion but this aint one of those.

At 130 Arguello probably stops Sanchez late in this match - Or wins UD -

It's hard to say,Arguello could be outboxed but with his height, reach, and power it might not matter late in the fight.I hesitantly pick Alexis to come on late in the fight and take a close decision or late tko.

Sanchez speed is the key. Sanchez by decision

Sanchez would have the edge in speed and I think would be stronger at 130 as he was very weight weakened through much of his reign. This would be a great fight but I see Salvadore out boxing Alexis and matching alexis when they go toe to toe.... Sanchez wins on points.

I agree with this. Personally, I think Sanchez is not overrated. After all he is arguably the best featherweight of all time. Many people just haven't seen enough of him or have different opinions which is understandable. He beats Arguello in 15 rounds by UD or TKO. I'm not saying he'd outclass Arguello either. It'd be a very competitive fight but ultimately Sanchez was just better all around than Arguello. As Silkov said, Sanchez was weakened by having to make weight. Sanchez is still highly underrated by many who saw Julio Cesar Chavez as youngsters but in truth, those watched Sanchez realize he'd give a competitive fight with anyone around his weight class. It's very unfortunate that we never got to see this match up which would have very possibly happened had Sanchez not died tragically.

Sanchez was fast enough for his speed would be a factor against Arguello. i think Sanchez is a tad overrated. just a tad. We didnt see enough of him to make an argument that he was the best featherweights of all time. He did not defeat that wide a variety of fighters. we shouldnt judge fighters on woulda coulda shoulda. Arguello proved himself more and for a lot longer time than Sanchez. Arguello had a height, reach, and power advantage. Their boxing skills were close, with Sanchez having an advantage in speed albeit not an overwhelming one. In terms of speed he wasnt exactly prime Camacho out there.

I don't know about that one. Look at his last 10 fights. I'd say that's enough to make him one of the top 5 featherweights of all time and arguably #1. Never said it's accepted just said it's arguable. Sanchez was easily the best featherweight i've seen. Unfortunately I haven't had the luck of seeing Pep or Saddler, but from what i've seen of Sanchez I can say with honesty, I feel he'd be competitive against anyone near his weight class.

Sanchez was not overated. He was the complete fighter with speed, skill, strength, power, a warriors heart and intelligence too. Look at his competition... Sanchez's opposition matches and beats the competition of every other Faetherweight champion. As for comparing Sanchez to Comatcho, that is just a joke!... Comatcho was a runner with no heart... Sanchez would not run against Arguello but he'd use to speed to out manuvere Alexis and also out-fight Arguello in the toe to toe exchanges. Sanchez matches Arguello in every department and except speed and ringcraft in which he beats Arguello.
I say all this having all Sanchezs world title bouts plus about half a dozen pre title fights of his. Many people that are saying Sanchez is overrated haven't even seen him fight!.

Interesting take Silkov, there is no doubt that Sanchez would give a great account of himself. Crazy to count him out even though as I said I would lean a bit to Arguello.

Arguello wasn't as fluid as Sanchez but I think he hit harder. The thing is I don't see Sanchez eating much leather. I think this is very hard to predict. I think the fighters are equally as great I just think sanchez's better movement might see him take a SD.
