I've never seen this fight, so I'd be very interested in hearing comments on it from anyone who did. I've heard that Benn appeared to be the clear winner. Thanks in advance.

Most had Benn winning a close fight...

Hearn allegedly pulled a fast one on Don King who somehow had promotional rights to both fighters if Benn won and Both fighters if Eubank won.... a draw meant Hearn kept both

i remember it to be a dirty fight,benn at 1 point ended up on the deck after a tangle and eubank motioned to touch gloves and promptly smacked benn with a right hand

after selling some 42,000 tickets @ old trafford,they should have gone for a third fight @ wembley imo

It was a real fight. It has been some time since I have watched it, but I have Benn winning with something like two points. Not a bad decision by todays standarts.

I thought Benn won clearly, by at least 3 points.
Eubank had a history of winning dubious point decisions, Against Dan Sherry, Michael Watson in the 1st fight, Ray Close 1 and 2 IMO, Dan Schommer one of the worst ones and in the 2nd Benn fight.

Thing is i liked Eubank and thought he was good for british boxing, everyone needs a bad guy, and he had a great rivalry with Benn , Watson etc.

This is the first boxing fight i can remember seeing (i would have been 11 at the time)

I can clearly remember becuase i was at a party and all the men watched the boxing and i can remember alot of them not been happy with the decision .

Benn edged it, in my opinion, but with the point he had deducted for a low blow, I thought a draw was fair.

I watched the fight several times with the sound switched off.

As we all know it WAS close, but I scored it for Eubank by one point...draw at worst. Didn't see Benn winning it.

I accept this is a minority view!

agreed now... although as a huge Benn fan at the time, i wasn't this rational when the verdict was announced.

I thought Benn squeaked it by a point or so. As I recall he was busier and more aggressive than Eubank, who didn't seem to counter as sharply as in their first fight.

It's incredible how often Eubank escaped with dodgy decisions really. Wonder how he managed it.....

The English commentators seemed to be heavily biased in favor of Benn but I still thought it deserved a narrow win.

english commentators??? i'm sure it was jim watt or barry mac who was the other commentator

Ah shut up! All I remember is the commentators favoring Benn and I usually refer to commentary on a fight as being English or US. More out of habit, despite Scots and Northern Irishmen being a part of it.

Very good fight and a great atmosphere. Watching from Ringside I was convinced Benn had won a close hard fought decision as did many sat around me.

Watching it again on tape I still had Benn the winner but by a tighter margin. I seem to remember Benn storming out of the ring when the verdict was announced. My mates an I spent a few minutes chanting "Bullshit".

But in fairness it was a close fight. Future Champions Barry Jones and Robin Ried were also on the Bill.

My mate bought a meat pie there and got really bad guts after eating it, they must have known he was a life long Liverpool Fan.

I also had Benn winning - by 3 points, I thought there should have been a 3rd fight but unfortunately it never happened.

In the Minority here, I know I am - but I scored the rematch for Eubank by 1.

It was a draw with that critical point deduction.

Incidently, the score card was very very strange. I think one (maybe two) of the judges gave BENN both 11 and 12 - (These were the ones who scored it a draw and a Benn win). No way did Benn win these rounds, 12th was closish - but for a 10 second spell it Eubank in control. Eubank won the 11th as clear as any of his rounds. People talked about the suspect scoring of Reid vs Ottke: People should also look at this, if ever I have seen a dodgy draw it was here - it just looked very convinient scoring cause Eubank took the last two on my card - and did on the card that scored it for him.

Scored it loads of times, and each time I score it the same.

Yes plus an excellent re-run of the rematch a few days later, with Don King, Michael Nunn, allegedly and Barry McGuigan as pundits talking about every other round.
