There is a very interesting posting on this forum about Bobby Halpern that was written by Mike DeLisa. Mike, if your computer is up and runing, would you post some additional information about Halpern? You mentioned 2 1957 fights; an exhibition in a Bronx movie house; some more legal troubles and some t.v. commercials.I would be very interested in reading more from you about Halpern and I'm certain others would be too.

SHEESH!
Believe it or not, I was out drinking with Bert Sugar and ex-fighter Steve "Schoolboy" Small the other night and the subject of Halpern came up.
I mentioned to Steve that of ALL the fighters I get inquiries about, two guys stand out -- Bobby Halpern and Luis Firpo!
Steve said he worked out in the same gym as Halpern and that he was one tough SOB!
I'll have to check my old post & notes but last I have on Halpern was from Flash Gordon's old Tonight's Boxing Program, circa mid-1980s.
Steve is gonna ask around to see if he can get any info on what happened to him.
I guess what I need to do is collect all the info I have and do a BIO for the Cyber Boxing ZOne and post it there.

I read a Sports Illustrated article on BOBBY HALPERN in 1976 when he got out of prison after 17 years and started fighting again at the age of 44. After winning a number of club fights he got ko'd by a tremendous right hand from GUY CASALE in 3 rds after winning the first 2 rds handily against his much younger opponent. Less than two weeks later he was shotgunned in the face and almost died in a murder attempt. A large part of his lower lip and jaw was blown away from what I can recall and his boxing career was permanently ended. Dan Col

When Halpern resumed his career in 1976, was his first bout against Berbick? I've seen another bout in Canada listed as preceding the Berbick fight by a couple of weeks, but I can't remember the name of the oponent.I wonder if this is correct?
