Has anyone any views on Kevins performence last night....
Seemed a little tense to me

I didn't realise he was fighting last night. Was it on TV? Shame I missed that if it was. 4th round TKO, what was the stoppage like?

It was televised John, the Jennings vs Pryce bill was shown on ITV 2.

Thought he was a little tense also and took a few too many punches, but still think he's a terrific little fight.

Him, Cocoran, Murray, Khan (who I think fancy his chances with Mitchell now) - This is like the light Middles of 2002 - but all have the potential to surpass them.

He looked a little fragile to me, but what about the Jennings/ Pryce fight, that was a cracker!

1st round big shocker, action all the way till the end, 12th another shocker, great fight!

Far too tense. And a bit predictable.

He did mix up his work with some nice body shots though.

If you look back at all the big punchers over the years, Mugabi, Gomez, Cuevas, Ayala etc.. Although they were agressive and took the ring centre, they were much more relaxed, even early in their careers.

If Mitchells power is to be used to its maximum effect he needs to relax more. Maybe even do a bit of counter punching.

Think he was trying to impress to much, maybe with winning the young boxer award, he thought he had to put on a big knockout.
First couple of rounds he didn't do much head movement and got caught be a few lunging punches from Thorpe.
Once he started using his jab things came together well, he would have finished Thorpe if the towel hadn't of come in.

At least after the fight he acknowledged that he had been head hunting and needed to work on some things, and he seems to have stopped alot of the unnessercary showboating.

Mitchell seemed to catch too many but looked fit and sharp on the attack. I reckon Thorpe is a lot better than he used to be too.

Totally agree. Re the latter point, I spoke to Dave Coldwell this morning. He made the point that Daniel is doing better partly because he is cutting down his daft antics. I thought he was in much better nick physically than he has been too.

Although the fight could have gone on - as Dave agreed - it would only have led to Thorpe taking more punishment and I thought the stoppage was merciful.

how tall is mitchell,i"m sure he was mentioned as being 5ft 10 or 11 last night
also they must have a good sunbed in dave coldwell"s gym,see how orange ryan rhodes and daniel thorpe were :)

He has just moved gyms actually...maybe he's next to a tanning salon!

As for Kev Mitchell, I met him the other week and he certainly didn't seem as tall as 5'11'' to me.

Kevin is 5-8

He was trying for the big KO lastnight to impress the viewers and I think that is why he looked bad early on, but when he did settle down.... :x

I do like Kevin Mitchel, I`m sure he will get to the European level without doubt.

And Warren made a remark about how Kevin talks :P , from the first time I saw Kevin interviewed, his accent and how he speaks has left me unable to understand him....good little fighter but he just as well be speaking Mexican because I don`t understand a word he`s trying to say

Was disappointed in Mitchell TBH, for a prospect in his 15th/16th fight he still looked very raw to me.

Agree with the consensus; Thorpe looked alot better and less fragile then he has appeared in the past but Mitchell aint the second coming of Benn in terms of power, or possibly boxing talent for that matter.

He will have to do alot better next time out for my money.

John Murray beat Thorpe in 2 rds with 3 knockdowns 12 months ago in his 9 th fight.

For his 15th fight or whatever, he still appears very basic in his style, as he said after the fight he needs to stop barging in looking to land the big shot to finish the fight, he should take his time and pick his opponent apart more methodically. He will never reach a class above European level in my opinion, he looked easy to hit last night, anyone with world class ability will flatten him quickly. Amir Khan has been called out by Mitchell, but I'm afraid Khan would dominate him and probably embarass him.

Mitchell was loading up and forcing his work as usual. He's a nasty little fornicator too!
I think if he learns to take his time, and relax, he could be a really good kid, but boxing like that, someone like Khan would jab his head off as he lunged in all night!!!

I don`t see why you`d rate Khan over Mitchell so easilly

Sure Kevin is a superfeather like all of Khans opponents so far, but in all fairness Khan hasn`t looked that devastating himself..even though he is a good division above them.

Khan is rated at lightweight but he is obviously a light-welter.

I wasn't speaking about Khan directly, more of an illustration of my point. Someone with the same style is what I meant. Long and fast (ooeer).

Khan would box Mitchells head off. Mitchell's not fluid, Khan is. Mitchell's opposition has been HORRIBLE. And its been off no benefit to him as he's still just loading up cause he thinks he can take these guys out with bombs. Has anyone seen him throw a jab yet?? Whats his pro style?? Loading up with single shots all he time (bad even if he had power, which he obviously doesn't)??

yeah i thought kev looked abit one dimensional,he is boxing the same way he boxed in the am.he as alot of talent but it seems he just wants to take them out ,as he steps up he will not get away with that plan he needs to box more dose this kid have a jab .

fighters like kev need opponents to stand in front of them to look good any movement then there way of fighting gose out the window.daneil thorpe proved that.what would khan do then he as very fast footwork and hand speed but i dont think khan can match kev for power.for me jhon murry is the best of the bunch ,but in time i think khan can and will be the best.
