They weigh in at 2pm today. The bookies fancy Pickering but there has been plenty of rent for the Hunter, who has gone from 5/2 on Monday afternoon to 5/4 with Blue Square. He's a massive 'steamer' in gambling terms. How are you calling it? Anyone else going?

I'm going with the bookies on this one and think Pickering could win it. Wish I was going but can't due to limited funds

Hard to seperate, I am a fan of both - just think Hunter will have that edge in intensity and come through.

this is a reall 50-50 match up but im going for hunter to win with his educated pressure and high workrate. Pickering has skills and good movement but has a bad habit of throwing single shots too much - i feel someone like hunter will outwork him and possibly score a late rnd tko.

The thing is Panther, I don't think Mick's pressure is particularly 'educated'. Relentless, yes. Frightening, yes. Educated, no. He just batters away top to bottom until the other guy has had enough.

Mick is my favourite British fighter. I spoke to him this morning and he says he has a game plan...and then in the next breath "But we'll see what happens and I might just go for the good old-fashioned tear up!"

If Esham is on top of his form, I can see him getting on his bike and outboxing Mick. If he's anything but 100%, 'Hunter's gonna get yer!'

I've been holding off my BPN predictions largely because of this fight. I lean towards Pickering getting on his bike to nick it on points, but who knows? Great 50/50 fight. Amazing how friday fight night has improved since they binned the WBU and concentrated on real titles.

Would be a massive win for Hunter if he could pull it off, remember Esham is ranked #6 by the IBF & #7 by the WBC, so a win could really propel Hunter, anyway i say Esham takes it on points.

Footwork and experience. These 2 attributes give Pickering a significant edge IMO.

I'm biased obviously but I am genuinely struggling to see how Esham pulls this out.

He is cute and ARGUABLY the more skilled boxer but I don't agree that Hunter is a brawler. You don;t win two ABA titles if you can't box.

Pickering I would say is ARGUABLY the bigger puncher but like Hunter he has very few one-punch KOs on his record.

People are saying that Esham has fought in a higher class but again this is debatable. The kid he won the Commonwealth title from was a 9 fight novice (no better than Marc Callaghan/Mark Payne) and Carr was on the slide for me. I will know a bit more about his win over Mallon when I see the Spaniard in the flesh (he is on the undercard against Callaghan).

One thing I do know is that he won't match Mick for heart, work-rate or intensity. Mick is for real and won't go into his shell a la Lynes v Witter. U watch how fresh Michael is if this goes 12. He has done 10-weeks solid for this and not had 1 lapse. This is his time and while I agree it's no gimme, I still think the 2/1 about Hunter in places is an insult.

I've filled my boots at 5/2 so if he does the bizzo and you are in Hartlepool, there is a freckly geezer with a flat nose who has a pint for you...

Very true mr.mcneilly but i'd like to think mick is as reckless as he used to be and boxes a bit more these days. If anyone saw the miguel mallon fight u'd have to agree mallon altho very game was very raw and pretty poor but gave pickering a few problems before his lack of conditioning and poor defense let him down.

That was a hell of a fight. The decision I wouldn't really argue with. Hunter had the better of Pickering from rd 7 on I'd say. Almost dropped him as well - can't remember if it was the 9th or 10th. Basically went hell for leather at Pickering and all credit to him coming back from being dropped early on. A rematch would be good, definitely. I'd say this pair would stop Dunne.

Those Ingle boys sure have a problem with going the distance.

cracking little fight - I had 200quid on hunter so i was absolutely shitting myself during rounds one and two because those were pretty heavy knockdowns but he showed tremendous heart and fire to pull it out. I'd heavily favour hunter in the rematch - if it wasnt for those two knockdowns hunter would have won pretty convincingly. I cant see hunter competing with larios, vasquez monshipour and the like but at euro level I am sure he'll do very well.
