Hardman

Essex boxer and hardman Dominic Negus shot to notoriety in July 2002 when he head-butted Olympic heavy weight champ Audley Harrison. Negus lost the bout and went back to working as hired muscle, which is where this eye-opening film starts.

Outside the ring he collects debts for shady businessmen and acts as enforcer when large amounts of money change hands. For Negus the job becomes personal when he discovers that his 84 year old father who is ill in hospital, is owed £10,000 by a car dealer. He heads for Clacton to try and recover the money, and an extraordinary and violent confrontation follows.

Spotted this in the Star. I never did get to see the headbutt on Audley so hopefully they will show it tonight.

Both Harrison and Negus were guilty in that fight, Harrison smacked Negus when he was down . After the fight Negus tested positive for drugs, not sure what it was that he took

As I recall, Negus did not touch the canvas but sagged into the ropes and the referee did not call for them to stop boxing, so Audley was entitled to keep punching, and should have done.

I thought it was some sort of steriods he took. The fight with Harrison if I remember right was a bit of a dirty brawl. Can anyone remember it / was there and saw the head butt?

Yeah , your right, my mistake. I still can't remember if Negus headbutted him before or after that though

Dominic Negus is a top geezer met him on a few occasions. so what if he gets his pound of flesh if you f uck him over.

After the steroids Boxing ban Negus fought on at least one unlicensed card and won.

Stuck in the library so missing it, remember the fight though, I think audley was trying to learn some of the rough house pro tricks such as mixing it up on the inside and Negus was used for that purpouse. As I remember Negus was crouched holding the ropes (I think hoping for an eaight count), audley punched him two or three times at which point Negus made a quick recovery stood up spat out his gum shield grabed big auds head and went for a but. On seeing this Ian John Lewis (who is only little) shat himself and tried to brake it up.

We've not been given this up here as per, sounds interesting.

I had it in my head that it was Negus, although now I think about it I think it was Krence, who I recall saying in the post-fight interview that Audrey hadn't hit as hard as he thought he would

Didn't Derek McCafferty also say something similar, along the lines of his punches have no snap and how little power he has shocked me.

Really enjoyed the programme last night, loved the quote:

'Rock and roll, lets get ready to party!'. I wonder who he pissed off to get attacked like that? I wonder what happened to the guy who owed £15k?

Made me think to the programme at Christmas a few years ago, about Britians first woman boxing manager and her cruiserweight prospect. Enjoyed that as well, he seemed to go off the rails a little bit when she missmatched him. Does anyone know if she is still managing or is he still boxing?

Shame about Negus, could have made a good opponent for the likes of Haye and Enzo if he hadn't been on the roids. Would have loved to see him in with Haye especially, would have been a fight that would have tought David a lot.

Programme left far too many unanswered questions and was fairly slow. Expected more to be honest

Only caught the last 25 but agreed on the slowness. It's the way the progs are made - entirely dependent on the subject and panning out over a long period of time. He's not going to want people filming him doing anything iffy. Basically came across as ruffian talking about his dodgy life. The missus thought he was just trying to make himself sound well 'ard. I agree with some of that, but disagree with her implication that Negus is not actually well 'ard.

Audley's punches certainly used to look too much like arm shots. Maybe the eons he spent in the amateurs left him a legacy of him looking for scoring shots over power punches.

It was really interesting for the first half, but then Negus gets attacked by some villains with axes and clubs and then decides he doesn't want to film anymore.... so it kind of peters out. But then there's some update a year later, but frankly the programme left loads of open questions.


But Negus came accross as a funny guy, quite sensitive in some ways, but has clearly become a very hard man due to his environment.

I wouldn't want to owe Dominic a fiver.

Interestingly an unfit Negus loses a decision on an unlicensed show to Karl Barwise, who was a useful pro middleweight - not a great record but fought everyone at British level and beyond including Calzaghe, Errol Christie, Chris Tiozzo, Michael Watson, James Cook, Lou Gent etc

Well I thought it was an interesting programme. I wonder if the Negus attack had anything to do with him appearing on the program itself?

Negus came across as a nice enough guy, just a bit too 'post lock, stock & two smokin barrels gangsta chic' for my taste.

Shame he didn't stay an active Cruiserweight he may have got himself a few good paydays against the likes of Enzo, Haye an Hobson etc.

He looked in awfull shape in that Unlicensed fight and his trainer looked non too pleased with him in the dressing room after him. But later on in the program he looked a bit slimmer.

I think Negus came across like a pretty mixed up guy. Like so many Boxers and Boxing related storys, it's a shame he did not manage to keep on the straight through Boxing and earn himself some money at Cruiserweight, he hung in plenty with some of the British level Cruisers, a bit of training disipline and a better mind set, he could of got himself some nice earners.

Seems a decent guy under all that hard man image.
