Harrison vs Hussein

Waiting judges decision, I have it alot closer that ITV. I only have it for Harrison by 1.
The KD was critical on my card.
Oh well, I thought I would be in the minority - that scoring seemed to be a bit big.
Thought the ref was poor, how many times did Harrison go low? Not even a warning, and in the 9th round when Harrison stunned Hussein - the ref got in the middle of the two and the allowed Harrison to land shot with the ref between the two. It was almost as if he was saying "oh Hussein is still hurt, go on then Scott hit him".
No, this is not me ranting cause I got my bold prediction wrong - Scott was the only guy who wanted this, Hussein looked as if he couldn't be arsed from the opening bell. It was similar to his Larios display, which I thought was down to weight making problems.
Harrison is absolutely for the taking though, it was arguably his most subdued performance as champ. That didn't look like a world title fight, neither looked world class with many flaws.

It seems pointless to fly half way across the globe then put in a timid performance, you'd think he'd have got in boots and all. Hussein just doesn't seem to want it, judging by how the fight seems to have gone

Sounds like Guzman vs Harrison will not be happening, was that a "I don't think Harrison stands a chance" from Warren. He seemed more interested in Harrison moving up, than fighting Guzman.
On that showing, I don't blame him.

yeah i agree, harrison looked like he was about to go a few times to me but hussein looked almost uninterested. harrison was hurt at one point but made it to the end of the round, when the fighters emerged the ref started to lecture harrison about something but at the same time giving him more of a chance to recover, hussein even shrugged at the ref as if to say `come on ref fornicating let me at him`.
scots very strong but a real concussive banger will have him out of there.

I'll agree with this. I had it 6 rounds apiece with the knockdown scoring the winning point. Is it illegal to deduct a point from Harrison in Scotland? The guy hits low all the time, uses elbows, shoulders.
I'm pleased someone else socred the fight similar to me, listening to those Sports Network affiliated commentators I thought I was watching a different fight.
Has anyone else noticed how "The Big Fight Live" seems to have turned into a Sports Network infomercial.

Hussein seemed uninterested, dont know how you scored it that close, was quite clear to me that Harrison won most rounds.
Not a bad scrap though, no doubt he will move up now.

That was my card exactly and it wasn't exactly a conclusive KD.

I think Harrison has serious weight making issues. I also think he fights to the level of the opponent. After the 5th, when it looked like he was in complete control, he seemed to totally slacken off and just do enough.
I had it 116-113 to Scott and I think he needs to move up to Super-Feather now.
Joan Guzamn looks like an impossible task for Scott on this showing.
I have to totally disagree with the comment that Scott looked ready to go at some points. Stunned yeah but I don't think he was every going to get knocked out.
Over all its just 'same old , same old' for me from Scott.

Yes it is a little sad, I suppose it is hard to avoid though as ITV don't/can't (still not sure what the answer is to that exclusive rights thingy) have any promoters.
The commentators are naturally not going to discuss any fighters that you cannot see on the ITV network. I was VERY surprised McGuigan mentioned the evil H word and called him the best boxer in Britian.
I hope it wasn't sports network idea to get rid of the music, one thing they had over Sky. Not sure if this new fanfare is better than the "Right, Left, Right, Left" crap that Sky still plays.

I'm confused, does stunned not mean ready to go?
If he was fighting someone who could follow up those stunning shots with 3 or 4 hooks I think he definately would have gone. Huseein seemed happy to just land single shots.

I know, The ITV Big fight music is synonimous with Boxing in this country and is probably the only thing ITV had going for them over Sky's coverage.

Well, eh, not quite an apex performance, what?
He's a better boxer than that, he just really seems to have problems putting in a consistent performance for me.
The options are looking limited now. I have to say Harrison would lose to Marquez, Chi and John on that showing.
Moving up won't solve all the problems either. No doubt Arthur-Harrison would be an excellent match, but I have a bad feeling SN would see Harrison fighting for Arthur's belts as a step down from 'world' level. And, why put two of your boxers in for the same titles, when keeping them apart means two different headliners to play with? WBO holder Barrios would be far from a formality as well. How about a rematch with Kebede? If Calzaghe gets away with two against Veit, surely Harrison's allowed to indulge a bit?

Nope. I mean Roy Jones wasn't just stunned but was ready to go in the 11th round against Antonio Tarver in their last fight.
Yeah Scott was hurt but wasn't Hussein? I mean if Scott had landed 3 or 4 more hooks when Nedal was stunned on the ropes in various rounds then who knows?
Scott also seemed happy to load up and land single shots. Indeed I was actually mightly impressed with Harrison's body punching. His head punching accuracy was poor though. Indeed the poorest i've ever seen it. If it had been better tonight then again.......who knows?
Also if Hussein had been more positive and attempted to press the action more then maybe it would have allowed Harrison to catch him with that proven right hand of his more often and could have resulted in him landing the same kind of punch that took out Medina, Abelyan and Brodie. But again I guess we'll never know.

If Barrera confirms his move up, then maybe Medina 3 for the vacant WBC title.

That's a point. There's the IBF as well in that case.

Oh yeah, its the IBF route they are planning for Medina. Its quite odd rankings these days. Medina (long time #1 with the IBF) was supposed to fight Cotto in a final elinator. Fight gets called off, through no fault of Medina (all Cotto's doing). Medina beats a stand in, gets assured he is next in line (will not face an eliminator). I now look at the rankings, Medina is down to #4 with #1 and #2 vacant and Javier Alvarez (the guy who beat Gomez) at #3.
Looks like Medina might get shafted out of a shot again.
Alvarez vs Harrison is a fight I assume that can be easily made.

Harrison needs to move up to at least Lightweight! That Marine trainings gonna drain him so bad if he keeps staying at Featherweight!
If he wasn't so drained he would of knocked Hussein out.

The ref was a joke tonight you could see Scott constantly looking to him bitching and then the ref would always warn Hussein. Then Scott would wade in with elbows and numerous shots on the break.
Harrison easily landed 15 plus shots south of the border

Hussein was neither disinterested nor timid. We have been through all this crap with Howard Eastman. A left jab put him into a shell and he reverted to what Jus Wallie and many other journeymen do - throw hail mary's as the guy on top comes in. Harrison uses the Enzo Calzaghe 'accumulation' tactic, to try to force the stoppage when he gets a guy up against the ropes. He is as static as ever when doing this and was caught numerous times by Hussein - who came to fight and does not deserve to be sneered at.

usage itv coverage of any sport bad, Watched it when i came in.
IMO Harrison has to move up now he cant make the weight well enough to fight for 12 rounds. The featherweight division worldwide at mo is not that great, in jin chi might not fight again, marques has been stripped of both his titles. Although he is fighting john for wba version.

Anybody who watched Nedal fight Oscar Larios will remember Jeff Fenech screaming at him to do something.
Nedal ( or Skinny as they liked to say last night) just looks that way, disinterested and well capable of moving up a few gears.
I thought the ref did an awful job last night, how did he let Harrison get away with using the elbow and forearm so often? Yet picked up on Nedal every time he so much as got close to Scott…Mr Thomas should retire after last nights job, it was blatant.
I can’t see Harrison facing Guzman, last night Scott fought at his own pace and got wobbled near the end, against Guzman he will face a livelier more ambitious puncher who will beat him in a similar fashion as Goya Vargas beat Hoko many years ago.

Awful fight, Harrison couldn't and Hussaine wouldn't.
Harrison has really deteriorated imo and had Hussain the heart/ambition I think he could have won it last night. If Scott fights Guzman next then I see him getting stopped on this form....

I had it 117-113 Harrison. I was pleased he took control quickly, but his late fade was a little worrying, although it may well be that he felt he already done enough to win and staying on his feet was sufficient.
What did strike me was how predictable Harrison's movement seemed to be, and also how he seemed to move inside-ish and fight inside Hussein's own hooking/uppercutting range rather than really getting on the inside.
Either way, I can see why fighters with lateral movement give Harrison fits. I do, however, wonder whether he's perhaps bored of fighting at a certain level and can raise his game for a bigger challenge?

This is a `world title` it is supposed to be THE top level.
His last few defences he has looked there for the taking, even his last fight over Brodie showed how bad he really is, Brodie was old for the fight and is no puncher at featherweight yet more than got Scotts attention, the Brodie of old..the super bantam ...would have beaten Harrison.
There will be an excuse to vacate rather than meet Guzman who is the mandatory and am i correct in saying has to be Harrisons next fight.
I`d like to see him in with Alex Arthur, great fight for Scotland and a real grudge match..on Harrisons side anyway....Arthur TKO9

Agreed, I would take Arthur over Harrison. I dont particularly rate Arthur but Harrison is the most limited one dimensional champion in the world today and (as stated previously) cannot handle anyone with any sort of lateral movement. I think Arthur may have enough to give him enough trouble to edge a win.
