Which Fighter Trained The Hardest?

by KOJOE90
Who throughout the history of Boxing trained the hardest?

Was it Rocky Marciano?

Or Marvin Hagler maybe?

Any other fighters that you can thing of that trained harder and were more dedicated than the two I have just mentioned? I'm not really thinking of the best fighters, just who trained the hardest?

Any thoughts or stories on hard training fighters fight fans? :box:

I always admired Wayne McCullough for his training through his career, always in shape and trains every day in his gym.

Past fighters, Hagler stands out, loved the storys of him training on a barren Island to get his anger up! Hell of a fighter.

James Scott supposedly trained very hard due to the fact he was in prison. You would think that in itself would give you incentive to train given the fact the alternative would have been boredom. To me the long hours of training would have been infinatly more appealing out of those two choices.

I think also Salvador Sanchez. He was a tremendously conditioned fighter. That's one of the reasons I have respect for guys like him and Hagler.

I would also say Hopkins. Though Hopkins probably trains the smartest... Not physically the hardest.

defintley marciano IMO. also u gotta include guys like tunney, and even joe louis who never showed up out of shape in his prime.

from what i have read and heard. honestly, marciano had some very freakish even scary weird training stories of how seriousely he took his body

sonny marciano said rock would sit by a machine and follow the ticker go back and forth with his eyes for 2 hours because he thought it would strengthen his eye muscles!!! talk about obessiion!!

there are other bizarre stories like that. the man was a physcho with strengthening his entire body

I thought it was Hagler who used that line?

Maybe Hagler just borrowed it?

You dont have to be great fighters, the thread is about fighters who trained the hardest. Coetzee and Ruddock might not be as talented as Ali or Holmes but they both trained like demons. Coetzee tortured his body to prepare for his fight with Dokes and Ruddock under Patterson's guidance also trained more than any other fighter in the 90's including Holyfield.

Nigel Benn was tremendously fit.

"For this fight he ran some 14 miles in the morning, alternating between a jog and a 100-yard sprint, without stopping to walk or rest and finishing the run within two hours. In the afternoon, he played three games of handball, punched the bag for 20 or 25 minutes straight, and skipped rope 1,500 to 2,500 times. He would then box from 12 to 16 rounds, and 'wrestle around' or toss an 18-pound medicine ball."

- Description of James J. Jeffries training for his first fight with Bob Fitzsimmons in 1899.

There's no reason to think that it isn't accurate. Many of his fights were scheduled for 20 and 25 rounds, so conditioning was critical. And he was noted for his stamina and great recuperative powers.

Oh yes I forgot. He did fight more than 75 years ago, so that means he had no skills and no idea how to train.

coatzee and ruddock nowhere near trained to the level as marciano and frazier. marciano could punch non stop 15 rounds with an incredible punch rate, yet u dont have him on ur list. did u ever read about his training methods or dedication, its kinda a scary obsession. that guy was nuts. why do u think he was undefeated.

i dont care what u think of the man, this is one area where i think marciano is # 1 in. or at least at the top of the crop.

id also like to mention john l sullivan whom i heard ran 21 mile everday. if u dont think he has stamina, try fighting jack kilrain 75 rounds in the hot mississippi summer.

this might sound a little biased..but anyone who knows a fair amount about braddock has heard of homicide hall. it was declared to be one of the hardest camps that any heavyweight title fighter had undergone in the history of boxing.

I've heard that Ali in his prime was an animal for the training and was always last ouit of he gym. Hagler was also knowm, McCullough, Holyfield.......but who was the fittest of the fit....5 names come to mind
Ali, Chavez, Hagler, McCullough and Frazier....some other mentions are Marciano, Robinson, Ray Leonard, Pryor (though suspect), Holyfield, Fenech, Steve Collins (though sloppy), Morales, Carbahal,...
