Why is Rahman now the WBC champ?

This is ridiculous.

Surely the title should be declared vacant and Rahman matched with the next avaliable highest ranked challenger.

It's laughable that Rahman is now a 'two time' Heavyweight champion of the world.

He paid 39p and got 'supersized' from his interim title :box:

WBC top 10:

1. Sinan Samil Sam (Turkey) INTL

2. Oleg Maskaev (Uzbekistan)

3. Wladimir Klitschko (Ukraine) NABF

4. Oliver McCall (US)

5. James Toney (US)

6. Ray Austin (US) USNBC

7. Samuel Peter (Nigeria)

8. Juan Carlos Gomez (Cuba)

9. Calvin Brock (US)

10. Nicolay Valouev (Russia)

I suppose he should have to wait and face the Sam Vs Maskaev winner for the title, instead of just being given it.

I think Sam will beat Maskaev but it would be funny to see Maskaev knock Rahman out the ring again

Maskaev-Rahman was a damn good fight.

I remember being in Mexico at the time and watching it live on HBO, on the same card as Mo Harris v Jefferson, another thriller.

Rahman won the interim title against Barrett. Would be a bit unfair if they declared it vacant. Lets be honest Rahman wont be champ long.

I guess the answer to my thread title is simple:

Don King.

presumably because he was their interim champ, must get the full belt if the champ retires I guess.

The whole Heavyweight "World Championship" is a farse at the moment. You have a collection of holders now and not one of them would I call the Heavyweight Champion of the World.

Until there is a Box off and a World Champion is decided, in my eyes there is no World Heavyweight Champion at the moment.

The sooner a series is put together the better and at least in the end with the last man standing, we can have a World Champion, no matter how weak he is compared to past Champions.

We can only hope it improves from there. With King in control of the lot, the good news is a series could happen.

And its not different to a week ago in my opinion, what on earth had Klitschko done to be recognised as heavyweight champion? Lost to Lewis? Then beat three fat overweight fighters. That does not make a heavyweight champion, Ring jumped the gun in awarding him the belt he never earned it.

Sinan will do that job and he will be the new WBC champ in spring 2006. :TU: :box:

BTW the WBC hasn“t released a new ranking since Vitali has retired. Gomez will get a higher ranking.

 No no I do hope Sam gets in the ring with Rahman because stylewise it would be an exciting fight. He should deal with Maskaev as long as he doesnt get careless like he did in his last fight.
By the way I dont hate all boxers who are based in Germany you can bet I will be cheering Valuev on against Ruiz :TU:

Every boxing fan hopes that Ruiz will lose....

BTW Luan did a great job vs Brewster. It was beside Peter-Wladi the best fight of the year in the division. Brewster had a lucky punch, Luan was clearly in front...... He is no Axel Schulz and has a good chance to win the title next year. :TU:

I know i saw the fight Luan boxed well but Brewster did start slow. When he got into groove he couldnt miss Luan I was shocked at how poor Luans defense was against a notorius hitter like Lamon. By the end I think Brewster knew he was behind and felt Krasniqi hadnt the one punch power to hurt him and thats why he looked so sloppy constantly loading up was just walking through his shots. Great fight though Luan showed a lot of guts though and deserves to be a contender based on that showing.
You cant rule out anyone in this division

Nick, your right, nothing much has changed on the whole Heavyweight picture from last week. Incase I was taken up wrong, I still believed before Klitschko retired the whole mess had to be sorted out. Brewster has made some good gains, etc while Vitali was inactive so the whole heap of them needed to get into a Box off, Toney etc included to make a true Heavyweight World Champion.

Before Vitali retired, I thought he would beat Rahman and out of the present lot, he looked to be the best of a bad bunch in my eyes. Beating Sanders and Williams does not make you elite by no means.

Bottom line is, its just become weaker again.

Yes, from piss poor to very piss poor. Is there much difference though?

This is probably more true than we all realise. Great analogy too!

Got to agree. :(

Not major difference, but Vitali really was the only guy I could think of who would of stood the best chance in beating any Heavyweight for a while and at least create a decent run. I can't say that about any of the present bunch.
