Mancini was as honest a fighter as they come,a throwback to the old days.He wasn't the most skilled fighter, but he trained hard, and he fought hard.O'Grady received a lot of flack due to his father, but was a pretty good fighter as well.Early on,O'Grady too,was a kind of throwback. How many other 17 yr olds(besides Benitez)would have fought a fighter like Danny "Little Red" Lopez? It was the WAA garbage that stifled him up.Who would win?Neither man was known for his defense, and both had heart. Both had good chins, and both bled.O'Grady had all the physical advantages in height, reach, etc. Both were proud pressure fighters.I think this would be an awesome slugfest, with both men too proud to retreat, and throwing everything.I think O'Grady would negate his advantages,by trying to "fight" Mancini.Though both had good stamina as well,I think the phonebooth warfare would be in Mancini's favor.Boom Boom by decision,

Mancini was a bum, a media darling. O'Grady boxes his socks off and stops Mancini late on cuts..... :TU:

If Sean fought smartly in this, he'd use that height/reach advantage like Arguello did against Ray. Sean would need to move after he hit Ray to keep from getting hit himself.
Ray would have to block or eat alot of jabs coming into Sean. If this fight did go into a "war" Ray would eventually wear out Sean. If Sean disciplined himself to keep boxing instead of slugging, he'd win.

A bum doesn`t give a pre Aaron Pryor version of Alexis Arguello all he can handle.

Ray did receive alot of media hype but I don't remember him out there promoting himself. Actually he stayed pretty humble through all of it. I don't think he was activly seeking the limelight.

I think that Mancini's effort against Arguello was way way more of a one sided beating than most recall and certainly much more than you'd believe listening to the call of the fight. Curious thing is that Ray's only effective punch in the fight isd the jab...
Big O'Grady fan and would have got his signature at Chavez-Gamache but got trapped on the wrong side of a sizable melee. He pounds Mancini and tkos him any time after 7. Blood bath

Hey T.O.G. I liked watching Sean fight in the '80s too. It's funny with posters on here, either they love Sean, or hate him. I've seen some posts on here with posters calling him all kinds of crap.
But I don't see him pounding Ray. Outboxing him, sure, but I think toe-to-toe Ray's chin would prove stronger than Sean's.

I think Mancini is very underrated these days... he actually had far more boxing skills than he is given credit for... you only need to see his fight with Arguello to see what a great fighter he was. Anyone who say Alexis beat Ray easily has not seem the fight period. Mancini had a better chin than O'grady, better power and was overall stronger and more rugged. Mancini used to cut but O'grady was one of the most cut prone fighters I've seen and an absolute bleeder. This would be a great fight, I'm certainly not knocking O'Grady, but Ray was better in nearly every department.... he would force Sean to slug it out and his body attack would wear Sean down and while both may cut Sean would cut worse and Mancini would win by a ko in about 7 or 8 rounds... :box:

Checking my memory banks on this one. Sean O'Grady was not a commercially viable fighter over here in the UK after his defeat to Jim Watt. some feel he was winning the fight until Jim opened him up and let him bleed all over the ring.

However what I remember, he was not a bad boxer, just prone to cuts.

Mancini was a miniture bulldog. He got under your guard and pounded away.

Sean's only chance would be to jab and keep Ray at the end of that jab similar to Arguello did. However Sean is not Arguello and with that in mind I don't think he would have held Ray off for long.

Yeah, O'Grady wasn't a bad boxer at all but Mancini was just a cut above him for me. Mancini was stronger and this would be crucial... Sean did best against boxers like Kenty and Watt but someone like MANCINI would be too strong for him and Sean would be overpowered, cut up and probably koed. :box:

You Mancini clowns are a funny bunch. :-? You keep refering to Ray's fight with Alexis as a proof of his greatness.....Argello gave him a one sided beating...O'Grady would do the same. :TU:

I liked them both, but would bet on Sean. Mancini has it in him to surprise in this scenario though. Wonder what the odds would shake out as?

No one has hyped Mancinni on this thread, just people giving a prediction on a single fight.

I was a big O'Grady fan and used to root against Mancini because of all the publicity he got, but Mancini was just too strong and hit too hard for O'Grady. Sean was a good all around fighter, but defense was never a strong point, and Mancini could bring it and had good conditioning. I see Mancini wearing down O'grady and stopping him in the middle to late rounds.

Mancini takes Sean in four rounds.
