THis was a fight that was supposed to take place after the Spinks fight if Larry would have beaten Spinks. This would have been an interesting matchup with 2 of the best jabs in boxing by 2 guys who both learned from Ali and were master boxers. Would Larry's age have cost him the title against a younger in shape Tubbs or would Larry's experience have been too much for the undefeated Tubbs?

I'm going with Tony in an upset.His boxing ability was always top notch, but he would have to be in shape, a big IF.

dont make tony tubbs out to be a world beater. first time i saw one of his fights, i said to myself "this slow out of shape fat guy with flabb jiggling around his belly is supposed to be a world class athlete"?

tubbs was NOT a master boxer.

Pinklon's jab may have been stornger then Tony's but it was not faster nor any more potent then Tubbs. Tubbs boxing midset was far more superior then Thomas' game plans...hence him getting outboxed by Berbick due to him not being able to figure out a style to beat Berbick

This would have been an intriguing (though unexciting) match up had Holmes won but the fight would never have happened. Larry wanted that 50-0 and Pinklon and Witherspoon were not on his agenda and I doubt Tuibbs would have been either.

Tubbs had quick, if light, hands, good fottwork and was fairly mobile. he was never in shaoe and really needed a bra, but he had talent. I can imagine him getting a decent lead on points before slowing down and Holmes getting back in the fight. I think Tubbs would have avoided getting KO'd and held out for a close SD win.

in camp Tubbs and Holmes had great sparring matches. Tubbs got the best of Holmes on many occassions and on media days Tubbs was not allowed to spar Holmes as not to make the champion Holmes look bad to the press...

so wut, ali was made a fool out of by roy williams, lennox lewis was knocked out by john ruiz. these are sparring fights, all that matters is in the ring.

yeah right, tubbs would have had to lose 50lbs to be in shape. tubbs was a fat boring slow tub of lard who holmes would have outboxed over 15 rounds.

BB, you're wrong about Tubbs. Slow? He had the fastest hands of all the mid 80s Heavyweights, including Tyson (save maybe Dokes but he was in rehab at that point). A smarter, more complete fighter then his contemps like Page, Thomas, and Berbick. What really kept him from bigger achievements was his discipline (hence his portly physique, even though he looked like Mr. Olympia compared to some current HWs, like Johnson, Tua, and Sanders), and his lack of a strong punch.

1985, It would've been basically a pick'em fight. I see Holmes coming on strong late to pull it close but Tubbs persevering with his youth and winning a close split decision.

any given night I'd say Tubbs could out box Ali 3 rounds, Holmes 3 rounds, Marciano 3 rounds, Joe Louis 3 rounds. That's a 12 rounder

u saw what tyson did to tubbs, marciano would do the same except maybe break a couple inner organs in tubbs gut hidden by his excessive fat jiggling around his stomach.

In 85 Holmes had his hands full with Carl Williams, who didnt achieve anything that Tubbs did, didnt have anywhere near the same staying power, talents etc. Holmes also had his hands full with light heavy Spinks.

Tubbs was in good shape for Page he moved fast & sharp, fast hands, quick witted boxing brain... He had all the tools to bump off a waning Holmes in 85 for sure. I'd pick Tubbs in his day over most heavies the guy was unbelieable for a guy who dabbled in drugs & was mostly out of shape. The job he did on Bowe was excellent.

OK , i think Tubbs was better than today-people think. He lost ony close to Witherspoon and Prime-Bowe! Against Tyson ...okay that was not so good , although he showed a good first round.

Comparable, but I think the edge goes to Tubbs.Something about his ability always impressed me.I feel that we never truly saw the best of Tony Tucker due to varying reasons.
