Two Heavyweight Title holders of the 1980's who should have met but didn't. But what do you think would have been the result if they had in 1983?

The young Tim Witherspoon who lost a very close fight to Larry Holmes versus the Michael Dokes who stopped and then drew with Weaver.

Who wins this one fight fans?

Michael Dokes

This would be a good fight but I'd go for Witherspoon on points... better stamina, power and chin... Gokes speed may get him into an early lad but Tim would wear him down and dominate the final rounds.... :box:

Spoon would be way too tough for Dokes. Dokes would try to dictate the pace for a few rounds with his jab and silly "Huuh Huuh" every time he throws it. It wouldn't do any damage though, and I think by about the 5th round, Terrible Tim would nail him with a big counter and then quickly finish his man off.

I don't think Dokes would be blasted out... he had a good chin, and took some real bombs from Weaver in their second fight... we probably never saw how good he could have been due to his drug problems... but Spoon was definately the better, more solid all round boxer at his best...

I could see Dokes working his way to a DEC -

Then again, I could see Spoon winning by mid to late KO

This fight will go to the cards. Both can take good shots, especially Witherspoon.Dokes' speed would give Witherspoon problems and Dokes has a toughness that certain other heavys of his time didn't have. The Witherspoon that barely lost to Holmes decisions Dokes of the Weaver era by a good unanimous decision, 12 or 15.Dokes just didn't have the power to hurt Tim.

I feel the same as most of you guys. I see Witherspoons better jab and defence being able to offset Dokes superior speed to take a points victory.

The thing is, everything about Dokes' career was rushed, he never truly developed those skills, and then there was the cocaine............
