Hey guys, I searched a little for this but couldnt find anything.
What are some of the most famous sparring stories btwn some classic fighters? I work with someone who sparred w/ Hagler on many occasions, but he was not a "great fighter". He said Haglers jab and straight right made him see white, even at 3/4 pace!
I kjnow Ali sparred w/ Holmes, but what are some other great sparring combos?

I also rememmber hearing somewhere that tyson and Lewis faced off sparring. If im not mistakin, Lewis gave Tyson all he could handle, just like Tillman in the amatures.

Oliver McCall was Tysons sparring partner and apparently had Tyson down in one session.
Also British cruiserweight Glenn McCrory was one of Tysons main sparring partners and by all accounts he held his own with Tyson.
I seem to recall that Shavers floored Ali in a sparring session too.

I believe that this was around the time of the 84 Olympics - both were very young at the time...

Buster Drayton was Haglers main sparring partner and Drayton learned his craft the hard way.
Roy Tiger Williams was also a sparring partner of Ali and also a great friend of his too.

Off the top of my head, I thought of the following
sparring partners for noted fighters:
Bob Armstrong- a black heavyweight who was
a sparring partner ca. 1900
Jack Jeffries- a sparring partner for his brother,
Jim Jeffries.
Jack Ashton- a sparring partner for John L.
Sullivan.
Joe Kennedy- a sparring partner for Jim
Jeffries.
Bill Tate- a black heavyweight who was a
sparring partner for Jack Dempsey.
George Godfrey- a top black heavyweight who was
a sparring partner for Jack Dempsey.
Jack Dempsey also had the following well-known fighters
as sparring partners: Sam McVey, Tommy Loughran,
and Dave Shade.

I know that Aaron Pryor was a sparring partner for both Howard Davis jr. and Sugar Ray Leonard.

when you think about it most everyone almost sparrewd with everyone if you were a champion or top contender at one time or another. All of the champs in the 80's were sparring partners of Holmes at one time ( Weaver, Spoon, Dokes, Berbick, Thomas, Tubbs, Coeztee..etc) same goes for alot of the other weights.
The boxing business is very small so everyone usually works with everyone at one point or another

If that's the case, than did Page and Cooney spar with Holmes when they were still green?
