Calzaghe and Lacy is on! - According to allegedly!!!

This is the fight we've all been waiting for on this forum... And I can't wait!!!

I won't believe this fight is going to happen until both fighters are in the ring and the bell rings.

I was about to post that it's appeared on the boxrec schedule around 10 mins ago.....wondered what their source was.

Yes, lets see what Gary Shaw has to say about it also.

Shaw is quoted too - these two have nowhere else to go really, other than small fights for small paydays.
I don't care how great Lacy looked last time out, Joe will fancy his chances here.
Someone who hasn't lost since he was a kid 15 years ago isn't going to suddenly fear losing to a fighter like Lacy. Roy Jones yes, but not an untested guy like Jeff Lacy.

Who knows, could be Lacy gets Joe at just the right time, but I'm sure Calzaghe sees this as man against boy.

Sounds promising, but I still won't believe it until the first bell rings.

Fantastic if it goes ahead, but as JC says himself, anything can happen between now and the fight.

A year ago I'd have gone with Joe, but Lacy seems to be coming on like a steam train whereas Joe has been static or is possibly even slipping. I'm particularly concerned that the fighters Joe's been facing in recent years won't have prepared him adequately for a hungry young hotshot like Lacy.
If he reverted to his educated boxing skills I could see him taming Lacy, but he can't resist a tear-up (His quote regarding being the bigger puncher speaks volumes) so I see a Byron Mitchell-style fight, but with Joe coming out second best on this occasion.

Yes, Calzaghe may well fancy his chances, however, he hasn't had an impressive showing against anyone approaching Lacy's strength and fire in his career. His career best win remains the one over Eubank, and Eubank was a bit past his prime and a late sub. Sadly Calzaghe missed the Benn/Eubanks/Collins era, and hasn't had any significant fights in his long line of defences.

Lacy is untested, but he's 28 and hardly a boy, and he's demolished Reid, which is something nobody expected him to do. Reid may have been ring rusty but the beatdown he took was a big surprise.

This will be the first fight i have been cheering on Calzaghe!!!
Reid was a bit of a plodder so lets hope Joes handspeed and southpaw style causes Lacy headaches.... I am sure it will

it'll be nice to see Calzaghe get out of this complacency that has really been bogging him down and making him unwatchable. Maybe a rival like Lacy can inspire something good from him, but the momentum is still with Lacy. I'll be damn pleased if this one happens

Good to see Calzaghe in a genuine matchup finally if it comes off, although this cannot be categorised as "Defining Fight" material as Lacy is an up and comer and a relative novice in big fights. I think as far as getting a defining fight and building a credible legacy Calzaghe has missed the boat, it's to late to undo the damage of a lot of poor matches made.

Well, I think a victory over Lacy would be the best win of his career to be honest. Maybe not quite a superfight, but as close as we are likely to get.

It seems that Calzaghe is likely to retire within a couple of fights, if he can beat Lacy, then someone like Kessler, then he will have at least ended his career on a high.

I'd settle for Lacy and then Tarver. Think he's left it too late to actually triumph in either fight though.

That's what i was saying too Deserter, he has left it way too late and the Lacy fight although mouthwatering is a substitute for the mega fight. I think if he had faced and beaten Glenn Johnson at the time they were down to fight then he could have salvaged things but not now.

Looks like it's time for Joe to set a date for a 'WBO title defence' against 4ft 10 inch Boris Mickaelovic of Croatia a month before the Lacy fight, watch that hand Joe!!!

Oh, and when Calzaghe is exposed (badly) and KTFO by Lacy, let's hope he retires and stops wasting the time of boxing fans around the world. The bloke is pathetic to be honest, and just thinking about him makes me mad.

It is a very interesting fight, Calzaghe is seen to be on the decline and Lacy has been very lucky so far choosing good names past their fighting best.

So much hype is now covering lacy it is easy to get caught up, but lets not forget Reid did absolutely nothing in that fight, and Pemberton whilst doing more than Reid did still also seemed too much in the fall-guy mode.

I wouldn`t like to pick a winner, part of me says Lacy steam-rollers over the on-coming Calzaghe early...but another part of me thinks Joe could just out-box the crude Lacy in a dull one-sided affair...but then again Lacy will be sparring with Winky so if he can catch him he`ll catch a more offensive Calzaghe...but then again spar with anybody long enough and you`ll work them out.....and Joe hits harder than Winky........

No offense to Lacy but there is no way that Joe secures his legacy against Jeff Lacy. Joe used to talk of securing his legacy against Roy Jones or Bernard Hopkins; wins over them WOULD have secured his legacy but not against Jeff Lacy FFS.

The usual BS from Joe, unfortunately if he wins (and it's no foregone conclusion that he will) the lay boxing fan will think "Yeah, Joe has unified the titles, he's the greatest". Give me a break!

i think that's going a bit overboard.

there is still antonio tarver and perhaps winky wright or jermain taylor at middleweight to take on.

i agree this fight has come a bit too late in the day. however there is still a few opponents in which to go out on a high.

still think lacy beats him though and fucks up that little idea.

And still the WBO and NEW IBF SUPER MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPION OF THE WURRRLD if it happens that is.

Only super middle who had more speed than Joe was Roy Jones and Lacy's lacks it to box.

How the hell can anyone think at the moment that Lacy will beat Joe sice this will be his biggest step upsince they have fought simular opp although Joe has fought better.

My word if this fight does come off, it will be a short affair. I hope to god they have to peel an unconscious Lacy off of the canvas at the end, but I doubt it.
I will buy the most expensive seats I can afford for this un, and scream my lungs out for Joe, as I have many times before, but at this point in his career (and Lacy's) it's a tall task!!!!
Lacy is a phenomenal specimen, and has an unbelievable physique. His power and drive may prove too much for Joe.

I think that this will happen now, I can't see JC crying off twice! He has too much Welsh pride in him to do that!
