If this is their 'Major announcment' it is shocking! It doesn't come close to making up for the Takaloo fight falling through! Nice try Sports Network, what a load of shite!

I was going to start a thread on this and ask if anyone thought a fight against the winner of this might be an option for Sprott or even Gammer or something.

Weird. If Williams/Ahunanya has fallen through at the last minute then fair enough, but seems a bit didgy to my cynical mind.

btw coconut, the commonwealth immediately stripped Skelton when he fought Moli for the WBU. The bbbofc hung on and gave him the choice whether to keep WBU/British title

Before Magee came back was it his leg that was just injured? Bit new to hearing about Magee and just wondering what happened to him.

Magee seriously injured in gang beating

WBU welterweight champion Eamonn Magee's career is in the balance after he suffered a broken leg in a brutal gang beating.

Ulsterman Magee was taken to hospital with a compound fracture of the tibia and fibula after being dragged from his car and attacked in Belfast.

Magee was in line for a major clash with former WBA welterweight champion Sharmba Mitchell, which promoter allegedly expected to seal this week, but now at the age of 32 his whole ring future is in doubt.

The WBU welterweight champion had surgery yesterday and is expected to go under the knife again tomorrow, such is the extent of his injuries.

The news has come as a shock to the whole camp and at a time when manager Mike Callahan is recovering in hospital from major surgery.

Coach John Breen said: "It's a sickening blow for Eamonn.

"He seemed to be on his way to some very big fights but now you just wonder what the future will hold.

"After winning the WBU title at short notice he really got his career going again and the fight with Mitchell would have been one of the biggest any Irishman has been involved with for many years.

"He has been the biggest attraction in Irish boxing for some time and for this to happen to him, particularly at this time of his career is such a blow."

Breathing difficulty

Promoter Warren added: "I was hoping to clinch the Sharmba Mitchell fight for Eamonn today. It's a shocking blow for him and his family."

Magee also suffered a possible punctured lung, his coach said today.

Breen revealed the fighter was having difficulty breathing as he recovered in the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast.

Magee was driving a friend's car when he was confronted by a gang and beaten in the Blacks Road area of the city.

A spokesman for the Royal Victoria Hospital described Magee's condition as "stable".
