On a previous post, it states the Sibson/Minter fight was "banned by the BBC" and not shown. Why was this?
Have any other fights been recorded and then not broadcast due to being "banned"? I guess there's an argument for this where there's a fatality or close, like the Benn/McClennan fight (which probably wouldn't have been shown had it not been live).
I remember one of Haglers fights (maybe the second one against Vito Antefermo) not being shown on world of sport although it had been advertised the week before, and we reckoned it was because the fight was stopped on a very serious cut and shouldn't be shown on daytime TV, but i'm not sure.

Sibson - Minter was due to be televised live by the BBC who at the time had an anti advertising policy.

In the locker room just before ring entrances, Minter put on trunks with the logo DAF (trucks) on the waistband

His manager and father in law, Doug Bidwell, refused to get Minter to change his trunks, so the bbc recorded, but never televised the fight.

Minter got £300 for the advert, but his purse was heavily reduced.

He also had his nose broken, and was knocked out in 3 rounds.

I have the fight on tape, in black and white.

..when i lived in cleveland (if you can call that living) for a few years that seemed like a century the horse's ass who owned the local outlet of a network thought boxing was too brutal so he refused to broadcast them. this was during the era when there were excellent fights shown on saturday and sunday afternoons......and he substituted dry canned speeches that i have no idea where they came from.

i thought....and still think...this was the most arrogant misuse of tv ownership i'd ever encountered. boxing was popular then and he ignored the tv public who was stuck with him.
