"Digger" Stanley conquered vacant British bantamweight title on 17 October 1910 defeating Joe Bowker. According Gilbert Odd, F.W. Herring and also BBBoC Yearbook 2002, that match had double crown on stake, having also European title. Neither British authorities nor French ones recognized actually that match as European billed. Only the philosophy to give forcely a lineage to European crown inspired this historiographical operation. Stanley claimed the World title and Britishmen supported him. When he met Charles Ledoux on 22 April 1912, the British press reported World bout, the French press reported European bout. In the 'revanche' match, Dieppe 23 June 1912, Ledoux won. Frenchmen greeted him as new European champion. Britishmen considered Ledoux for few time as first Frenchman world champion. But, Stanley was never undisputed World champion.
