Not long to go now - will Ricky capitalise on his great win, or is he overlooking a dangerous puncher?
Anyone know when the Columbian arrives in the UK? Hope Maussa doesn't mind a bit of snow when he runs.....Is this on the radio?

Many fighters are fortunate to reach fringe contention or regional supremacy. When a possible world-title opportunity arises, they usually deal with the harsh reality of their limitations.
Carlos Maussa learned a painful lesson after his knockout loss against Miguel Cotto two years ago.
The native of Colombia and part-time Miami resident failed miserably in his 140-pound title bid and, coupled with a lopsided loss against Arturo Morua last December at Miccosukee Indian Gaming, seemed headed for ''opponent'' status instead of lofty positioning among the junior welterweights.
Teetering with such an unwanted label, Maussa, 34, rescued his career thanks to a defining performance on the Floyd Mayweather Jr.- Arturo Gatti undercard June 25. Maussa still had sufficient recognition within the division to earn a second world title opportunity.
Maussa capitalized on his break, scoring a seventh-round knockout of Vivian Harris to capture the World Boxing Association crown. The victory enhanced Maussa's limitations and now will cash in on the most lucrative purse of his career.
Cognizant that a fighter's profitable window could close as quickly as two bouts, Maussa's management team landed its fighter a world title unification match against British cash machine Ricky Hatton on Saturday in Sheffield, England.
Hatton, who holds the International Boxing Federation version of the title, draws capacity crowds in his native England. A TKO victory against Kostya Tszyu, the division's dominant fighter the past five years, further elevated Hatton's profile within the weight class.
''Since June 25, 2005 to the present, all the things in my life are great,'' Maussa said in a recent conference call. ``My whole life I was dreaming for this, since I became a professional boxer my dreams are realizing little by little.''
With the leverage of two sanctioning body titles, the winner of Saturday's fight will have the platform to call for continued unification bouts against World Boxing Council champion Mayweather, who scored a sixth-round TKO of Sharmba Mitchell in a non-title bout Saturday night, or Cotto, the World Boxing Organization titleholder.
''Some of the best pound-for-pound fighters are in my division and I am looking forward to more fantastic wins and fantastic nights,'' Hatton said. `The thought of fighting the best is what keeps me going in the sport. I said from day one I wanted to fight the best and I look forward to coming to America to fight them, too.''
Maussa (20-2, 18 KOs) believes his brush with success will continue beyond the Harris fight and is confident of beating Hatton, who has won all 39 of his professional fights, 29 via knockout.
''There are only a few days left for the fight against Hatton, that I think I will win without objection,'' Maussa said. ``I never felt so great before like now for this fight against Hatton.''

maussa is tough and can punch a bit.
however i think only the cream of the crop can go near beating hatton.

Most view this as a straight forward win for Hatton, but as crude as Maussa looked against Harris he was dangerous whilst he was winging the punches.
He holds his head way up in the air and as said wings his shots, but Cotto only stopped him on cuts and Cotto is a much better counter-puncher than Hatton..and heavier handed I`d guess also.
I just get the feeling it could be more interesting than most expect, whilst I think Hatton will beat him I would not be surprised if he has a major scare along the way...don`t see it ending middle rounds...either Hatton catches him very early or gets the points in a rough affair.

I think it goes the distance with Hatton picking up a wide UD, probably winning every round.

Looking at Maussas record I might have agreed with some of you who say he might put up a bit of resistance.
However I've only seen Maussa the once, against Harris a few months ago and he was freaking terrible! I mean he was a complete amateur, almost an embarrassment to the sport, he looked like someone pulled in off the street.
The only reason Harris didn't stop him in 3/4 rounds was because he was totally out of shape and had nothing left after punching Maussa for 2 rounds. Presuming Ricky is in shape, and I've no reason to believe he won't be, keeps it tight and concentrates on punishing the several thousand or so mistakes that Maussa makes each round he should have Maussa in a world of pain and out of there by the 6th round.

He could at least stay in shape though in between fights.

Just watched some of the Harris fight, and Maussa really does fight like he's peering over a fence. His punches are long, casual swipes - I don't think he can throw a short punch by the looks of it.
Mostly arm punches too - but every now and again Maussa makes a mistake and accidently throws a punch with his weight behind it, like the left hook he finishes Harris with....
Hatton is no doubt planning to stay glued to his chest.
Great chin though: Harris is a vicious puncher, and he crashes a right hand on Maussa's chin in the opening seconds that has lights out written all over it - the Colombian just staggers a bit, but is ok within seconds.
Hatton has to make sure he doesn't fall into the same trap as Harris - as in thinking the guy doesn't belong in the same ring as him - he's such an inviting target, it must be hard not to try and end the fight with every shot he throws.
Looks like a long night for Hatton.

can anyone give me a description of the cotto fightt? Did cotto stauy back and counter or was he agressive? Because I think maussa's style is made for hatton and maussa cud get stopped inside 7 rnds. I dnt think maussa is effective at all on the back foot and i cant see him pushing hatton back.

It's got to be the cheesiest promo they've ever done. The best, in my opinion, was Paul Ingle before Junior Jones: "I took Naz to the edge... (camera zooms in) now it's your turn!".

Cotto was purely on the back foot. He seldom took a step forward, and outclassed him from the outside.

Boxrec lists him as : 20-2 (18)
whereas
The Ring & Boxing News lists him as : 18-2 (16)
Boxing Monthly has him at : 19-2 (17)
Who should i believe??

The heavy, cold and wet air of northern England may be a bit of a shock to Carlos Maussa's lungs after six weeks spent training hard in the hot, sparse atmosphere of Bogota in his native Columbia but the reigning WBA junior welterweight champion is convinced that he will cause a shock of cataclysmic proportions once he acclimatizes to the British winter - by knocking out Ricky Hatton at the Sheffield Arena on November 26.
"I won my first world title by knockout against Vivian Harris in June, now I will win my second by knockout next week against Ricky Hatton," a fiercely confident Maussa told SecondsOut. "You look at my career, and nearly all my wins (18 of 20) are by knockout and this win will also be knockout. I overwhelm my opponents with punches, that's always been my style, but I have trained here at 3,500metres (above sea level) for the first time to make absolutely sure I throw more punches than Hatton."
The 34-year-old added: "I know Ricky Hatton is a good body puncher, but so am I, and I will throw and land more than he does. Harder punches, again and again and will I overwhelm him and knock him out. He is known for throwing lot of punches but he has not trained at altitude, he has not prepared like I have. This will be a war of stamina and after altitude training for the first time in my career I know Hatton cannot win a war of stamina."
"I have chased Ricky Hatton since 2003," the WBA champion added through long-time manager and promoter Tuto Zabala Junior. "I always knew I could beat him and that our fight would be very exciting, a great fight, the kind of fight which would get fans excited to see me in huge fights with Floyd Mayweather or a rematch with Miguel Cotto."
Ricky Hatton's trainer Billy 'the Preacher' Graham has poured scorn on Saturday opponent Carlos Maussa's claims that 'the Hitman' will be overwhelmed in eight rounds in their WBA/IBF junior welterweight unification fight in Sheffield: "Maussa can talk about training at altitude all he wants but the fight isn't taking place on Mount Everest, it is taking place in Sheffield. I know it is hilly in Sheffield but it isn't on top of a mountain, is it? Ricky has trained the hardest he's ever trained, too, so if Maussa's expecting Ricky to have done him a favour by not training harder than ever he's gonna be very disappointed on Saturday."
'The Preacher', who has trained Hatton all his career from his 'Phoenix Camp' in Manchester, added: "And there's no way he can throw more punches - and I'm talking about proper, powerful punches - than Ricky. I don't care where Maussa has been training, if he's fitter than the Ricky Hatton I've just took on the (target) pads this morning then I'm calling the fornicating police because something criminal will be happening."
