how could anyone not put foster at light-H, he had one of the best jabs in history, he busted up alis eye.

...good jabbers one and all...though i still consider joe louis' left jab the best of all the heavy champions.

charles had a very good left jab....but he liked to turn it into a hook....and it's hard to argue with billy conn anyway...though much of the time billy was a more agressive two handed high velocity puncher.....his jab was probably used more against louis than in his other fights.

no sugar ray robinson at welter or middle? when he wasn't going for the knockout....and many times he wasn't.....he'd win rounds with jus this jab alone. this was more true of his welter days than at middle..when he had to battle more.

once again how come no one has said bob foster, the man probably had a better jab than ali

I'm changing my mind and agreeing with Decagon on Tommy Lougran having the best lightheavy Jab. That was basiclly the only punch he had and he accomplished a whole lot with it.

At welterweight I gotta go with IKE.

I didn't really like Ali's jab, is was kinda flicky at times. I would go for Liston/Holmes for HW.

Tunney at HW, Foster at LHW, Hagler (if only for Hamsho I) at MW, Napoles at WW, Carlos Ortiz at LW, Flash Elorde at FW (ok he was a 130, I cheated), Manuel Ortiz at BW, and Ricardo Lopez at Fly/below

..koatrist......i don't know if he rates as the best or not...but i'm glad to see your mention of emile griffith.....he was just about the best i saw in outjabbing a taller opponent. overall he's a highly underrated fighter these days, but he was well regarded in his time....as he should have been. good in every department...boxing (including infighting), jabbing as mentioned, good chin, good stamina and a very good combination puncher....though after the paret fight he lost something in intensity.
busy fighter, fought just about all the best guys in his time.

plus..he would have picked up another title...not what i'd call major one, but still a title....but he was robbed against that guy named dagge, i think.....and i think it was in the latters home town..maybe even home country. going by memory of watching it on tv....too stuffed with turkey to check out.

For jabbing? Really? Jones hardly ever used his jab. He used his hook to set up most of his punches.

The best jabber of all time for me is Marvelous Marvin Hagler. For anyone who hasn't seen him in his prime (that doesn't mean the Hearns fight and onwards), I would recommend Hagler-Hamsho I, Hagler-Antuofermo II and Hagler-Sibson. His jabs are scything and deadly accurate, landing with a thud each time at a surprising speed. The first round of Hagler-Hamsho I is a clinic on how to utilize the jab against a come-forward fighter - thirty sharp jabs land for Hagler in just the last two minutes!
Monzon had a good jab, but it wasn't comparable to Hagler's. Monzon was better with the right hand - his jab, while damaging, was just a distraction. Monzon's real game was bashing a guy up with straight right after straight right to his head and face, and he was extremely good at it. His accuracy was sometimes astounding.

Agree about Monzon's accuracy, unnerving at times. Are we talking about p4p jab here (if such a category exists) ? If so my vote has to go for Hearns at WW. He pretty much controlled Leonard for 70% of their first fight with that jab. So much reach for a welterweight too.
