1st round KO?....dont even bother explaining that one. braddock was knocked out 1 time in his career and that was by JOE LOUIS..he had a phenominal chin and excellent stamina.. IF sharkey were to win this, then it would be by UD

Sharkey was a real enigma as you never knew what kind of fighter would climb through the ropes on a given night. I think Braddock at his best could take Sharkey. I mean, if Carnera could knock Jack out, Braddock could at least decision him.

not a good example.
watch sharkey-carnera I, sharkey knocked him down witha crunching left hook and outboxed him.
sharkey was able to outpoint schmeling(bad decision) and outbox a past his prime dempsey before dempsey cheated and those are the fights to watch of him.
i think sharkey was the better all around fighter like theone said.

Braddock's great moment was a product of mind over matter, will over logic. He was pumped to the Max and could not be beaten that night. Problem with that type of scenario is how do you translate that with logic.
However like Rory has said in the past he also had a pretty brilliant light heavy career.
Buster Douglas on the night he beat Tyson just might have taken a few people out that would typically have been over his head.
So illogicaly I would pick Braddock to beat Sharkey. But in this case I think even by pure logic I would call it close. I have never been overly impressed with Sharkey. I think he played ball instead of boxed on more than one occasion. He did not have the heart of a Braddock. And sometimes will can take you places your body might not have been able to go on it's own.

Sharkey threw the second fight with Carnera.

Sharkey was the better fighter IMO (sorry Rory) but was an erratic performer and he'd ahve to come in near to his best to beat Braddock. i think he'd outpoint Braddock but I think it would be a tough fight. If Sharkey took Braddock lightly he'd get beat.

I have no problem with you all saying sharkey was better.. i respect your opinions,
im guessing this is a prime fight which means braddock is fighting in 1935. Braddock had the chin to take sharkey the distance i think there is no questioning that. But how good of a chin did sharkey have?.. braddock punched pretty damn hard himself... the great tommy loughran said braddock hit him twice in the shoulder and it was red and swollen..if the kid only threw his left he woulda had a chance.
well the 1935 THREW that left and he threw it pretty damn hard. Neither fighter i would consider to be "fast" inside the ring, so i think power and stamina/chin play a huge role in this fight. Braddock tended to fair well against slower/bruser type (baer) then he did quicker more agile fighters (loughran)
I wont knock sharkey on the carnera "KO" because i think that was BS..although i do lose alot of respect for him... Braddock heart made him a better fighter..his determination to win made him a better fighter..determination to feed his kids made him a better figher. Now if this fight takes place in braddock prime, then his children are still gonna be close to the streets, and i think it takes at LEAST a top 25 heavyweight of all time to beat this braddock.
For all intensive purposes braddock should have lost the baer fight..ive seen it countless times and the shots braddock takes from that murderous right hand or baer..it makes me cring.
So you all knew who i was taking and i hope i made a decent arguement.
The fight is going to be close i think but ill take braddock KO Jack Sharkey in 13 rounds. Braddock wears him down with his chin and his great stamina (many thanks to HOMICIDE HALL) and slowly takes him out. i could see sharkey up a round or two, but i think braddock eventually catches him with a LEFT...the left that braddock found a year earlier when he fought corn griffin, and the left that bruised and swelled up loughrans shoulder after 2 punches.
Thank you

I cant really understand why so many people think Braddock could beat Sharkey more times than not. Sharkey was a much more succesful Heavyweight and has a more impressive list of conquest like Schmeling(the fact that the second fight may have been a gift is justice in my eyes since Sharkey was handidly winning the first fight before Schmeling flopped.) a DQ win against Wills, who was losing the fight, Young Stribling, and Tommy Lougran. If prime Sharkey would have fought and beat Baer, it would not have been considered an upset. In fact, Sharkey probably would have been the favorite.
Sharkey indeed was erratic, so i could see Braddock winning a fight or two against him. But i believe sharkey would have won the majority of the bouts between them.
