How did he look?... was it a good fight??...

Serrat looked flabby and out of shape but was fit and strong and threw quality punches. Thompson found a home for the right uppercut all night but couldn't dent the Frenchman, he was pushed back onto the ropes and foreced to do most of his work on the back foot. Decent little rumble but Serrat appeared to have done the better work and won the contest.

Serrat looked horribly out of shape, but he was a clear winner in my eyes. I know Thompson has always had shocking balance, and looked old for years now, but I really think it's the end for the Cat now. He looked shot even by his standards for a lot of the time in there tonight.

Thats a shame, I suspected as much really as such a long layoff at Carls age wouldn't have done him any good really... mind you respect to him for taking on a tough guy rather than a soft touch...

thompson was doing a bad james toney impersonation. laying on the ropes, trying the shoulder roll, right counter/uppercut. problem was, his counters weren't sneaking in very well and he was getting hit by the right hands and left hooks. no way Carl won.

Carls never had the best footwork but I thought in his recent fights that his legs looked gone... if he's deteriorated further I hope he quits as I'd hate to see him koed by someone like Maccoranallie who he'd have beaten a few years ago...

I thought to myself when Edwards' name was announced as the ref, "if it goes on points, Thompson wins". Perhaps it is coincidence, but he has been involved in a lot of high profile dodge decisions.

Thompson should say Serra Serra and retire. He reminded me of Holyfield in there - no workrate at all, could sustain solid shots for more than 20 seconds. Even the corner knew this BEFORE the fight, thats why they were telling to pitta patter.

Carl Thompson has never pitta pattered before.

He looked good in the opener, again though so did Holyfield. He was breathing very heavy from the 4th.

That was pretty awful. I was jumping around multi-tasking at the time, but every snatch I caught of the fight, Thompson just seemed to be satnding therefairly innefectual. A complete dodgy decision didn't cross my innocent mind at the time, and I thought "Thompson has lost this easily. He's going to announce his retirement now." As stujones says, I don't really see much hope of an improvement from this stage on. I can't even think of a lucrative last fight which would show Thompson in a light which he deserves to be shown in.

What did he say?

I knew that Thompson was with Core for the Rothman fight.... but when did he leave Billy Graham (or was it Bryan Hughes?). Was it a bad split, did Graham (or Hughes... cannot remember which one) tell him to pack it in?

He said how Thompson lost that fight and in actual fact the ref did him no favours with the hometowner, since it's obvious Carl is shot and is now likely to fight on and most likely get hurt.

People might think 'shot' is too harsh a word for Carl Thompson - given his history. But the way he laid against the ropes coupled with the way he threw his punches said it all.

Its nice to see we all agree on the same thing that he did not win.

Thompson didnt win and 98-93 was rediculous, but the other way round perhaps so - Really suprised Serrat took it so well - A draw would have been over generous to Thompson - A great boxer that needs to call it a day - It reminded me of a Hopkins fight that was scored the wrong way round

The 'pitty-pat' punches sounds alarming, Thompson has always been a good puncher... without his power he's sunk really....

Serrat looks always out of shape, I guess he just feels more comfortable out this weight.

Too bad for Carl the Cat, he's had a good career already, hope he gets out unblemished

And David Haye lost to him.

Remember that when you're building him up as the next great hope.

The real concern is that CT can soak up an awful lot of punishment as he did in the first rounds Vs Haye

Now, however, there does not seem to be a stage where he turns the table and wins.

He was on the back foot for the whole fight and, while he was still picking his punches, they did seem entirely ineffectual.

I stand by the other thread title I posted, a bullshit hometown decision that would have had us fuming if it was in Germany or Italy

Thompson was lucky he was in with a guy with little or no punching power, otherwise he would have gotten badly hurt in there.

Shocking home town decision, absolutely appalling.

One of the worst decisions I have ever seen, how can the referee justify only giving 3 rounds against Thompson? I had it 98-92 for Serrat, most of the rounds Serrat won were not even close.
