This has been one fight I've always thought would be a great match up, I posted it about 18 months ago back when the board was moving a lot slower and didn't get must response so I'm trying again now things have livened up a bit.
I think this would be great to watch both fighters had tons of heart and brought a lot to the ring. Lopez had the bigger punch and great recuperative powers, but McGuigan had tremendous workrate and could box well when he chose to use his jab. Also with these to fighters there was always the chance they'd get cut have to go for the KO before being stopped.
Who's your pick?

I'm a diehard so take my opinion accordingly...But I belive that Lopez would stop McGuigan and I base that on the number of right hands that Barry ate from LaPorte. His pressing style would trouble Lopez but Lopez had a long stiff left hand and could drop the right unexpectedly. If nothing else if McGuigan knocked Lopez down then Lopez would win- he was known for getting up and ending fights.
Seriously so much of what is seen of Lopez- or, weas seen of him on television- was past his prime as I believe he peaked early into his reign. Before that he exhibited more movement, which helped him defensively, and he just seemed quicker and more reactive in the ring. The Lopez of the latter part of his reign probably would not have beaten McGuigan, but the Lopez that fought Olivares probably would have.

Tough fight this one.
However I disagree on the outcome.
Lopez may have peaked early and the Lopez of the latter part wouldn't have beaten Barry.........I agree
But the Lopez that fought Bobby Chacon would have been cannon fodder for McGuigan.
The one fight you mention is LaPorte, but if you look closely at Barry's career Juan LaPorte is one of a short list who actually survived the distance. This was also a 10 rounder, Barry was capable of a TKO in the championship rounds.
The McGuigan that fought Pedroza would defeat the Lopez that fought Sanchez.
We could go on and on. I just feel Barry was more durable and his punching power would have stopped Lopez quicker than the like of Chacon.

Both at their peaks I think Barry's chin and body punching would earn him a late TKO....McGuigan had a granite chin and a wicked left hook to the body. He had amazing stamina and was a great pressure fighter

This could go either way I think... I can see Barry outboxing Lopez but at the same time he never fought anyone who hit as hard as Danny and I wonder how'd he take Lopez's shots. Barry also seemed to struggle with taller boxers and Lopez's reach could cause him trouble. Thinking about it more I'm leaning towards Lopez by late stoppage as I don't think Barry would whether Dannys punches all night without getting cut up and perhaps floored/koed late...

On balance I tend to agree with you Silkov, I lean toward a stoppage victory for Lopez, although it would depend on how well Barry coped with his power and how smart a fight he chose to fight. As stated this would be close, possibly with the advantage swinging back and fourth
