Just skimming down the schedule and this has turned up on boxrec's schedule. 25th March in Germany. I havn't really looked up any other sites so don't know whether the story is official or not.

Be interesting to see who he goes for, the man he beat or the man who beat him.

Neither mandatory is due so why would he be fighting one of those two? King wants them in his heavyweight tournament. Byrd just fought a mandatory against Williamson, likewise Brewster with Krasniqi.

Just got this from the WBO site:

(HEAVYWEIGHTS) LAMON BREWSTER 32-2 having fulfilled his Mandatory obligation, promoter Don King will attempt to arrange a unification encounter.

However, WBA champion John Ruiz has pending Mandatory against Nicolai Valuev, while WBC’s Vitali Klitschko must make his Mandatory against Hasim Rahman on the 12th of December. At this time IBF’s Chris Byrd is thus the only one available.

Looks like Brewster Vs Byrd if you ignore the WBC position, but does King promote Byrd and Brewster? If so might be better to stick one in with Klitschko.

Yes King has both Byrd and Brewster. Why better putting them in with Klit? My reckoning is King will want Brewster to beat Byrd as he fancies him to repeat the job over Klitschko, lets be honest Byrd has no chance! If Brewster beats Byrd he then fights Klitschko in a mandatory but only for one of the belts there wont be a double mandatory. So if Klit then wins King only loses one title, but Brewster is his best chance of keeping both.

Brewster Vs Byrd is a safe strategy but he is only dealing with himself in a very slow heavyweight division. If he sticks one in with Klitschko and one in with say Skelton (or Williams Vs Harrison winner) he gets his claws into the German/Eastern European/English markets and hopefully more revenue.

I have my own plan for the heavweights: Put them all in a box, and float them out to sea. Sadly, that isn't going to happen.

So, we're stuck with what we've got. Which wouldn't be as bad as people make out, if they all fought each other. It's not exactly a vintage crop, but it would be a lot more exciting if 2006 involved all of them facing off. Enough with this mandatory bullshit. fornicate the belts, let the top ten fight, and then we can call someone champion. He might not be an all-time great, but he'll be the best we've got.

Not that I want it to be, but Beck vs Barrett was an eliminator for both the WBC and IBF title... infact, it was Byrd who Barrett wanted to fight at his post fight interview.

Is it because he fought for the WBC interim title that he is out of the equation.

He doesn't deserve to be in it, just a little strange he fights an eliminator and doesn't seem to be involved.

Byrds contract with King is up and it won't get reknewed they've been talking amack about each other
