It just occured to me that Barreras appearance over here was probably not just 'friends' meeting up, as I've never heard of these two being close. It seems it was the vice-president of Golden Boy promotions coming over to sign up and out of contract world champ.

Err yes, that has occured to everyone. However, there is no reason Barrera needed to come, he isn't the VP.

They are close. Every time Ricky finished a fight he spends huge amounts of time in the pub. This is known as a 'Bar era'.

And when MAB is camping up his Mexican heritage you can often see him on the way to the ring wearing a poncho and with a broad-brimmed Hatton.

To be honest with you all when i knew MAB was coming over i thought that maybe he was looking for a potential future fight with Hatton, which lets face it if MAB beats Chavez & has a couple of defences at lightweight & Hatton keeps on the winning streak why wouldn't this occur ???

Because MAB could still make 122 maybe and Hatton fights near 150. Hatton would maul Barrera - if Zoo can't keep Hatton off how can Barrera? IF hatton fought Gatti followed by Barrera it would be a pretty sad state of affairs

Cal me paranoid, but I still reckon it was a recruitment visit.

They went out for a meal in Manchester on Tuesday and Barrera didn't mention anything about hooking up with de la hoya. Apparently MAB gets on great with Ricky except for calling him daft for the amount of beer he chucks down.

"Que?"

Someone close to Hatton assured me it was just a friendly visit - apparently Hatton had actually stayed with MAB over in the States and the Mexican ledge had been promising to return the favour.

However, won't do any harm though if Hatton wants a US foot in the door.
