Steve Conway, from Super Featherweight to Light Middleweight has just beaten (and it sounds like hammered) the world rated IBO Light Middleweight champion, Mihaly Kotai on the Froch undercard.

Unfortunately for Steve the IBO title wasn't on the line, referee's card was 98-92 for Conway.

Look at the record of Kotai - look at the quality British fighters he has beaten, look what he has done against former World title challengers - and Conway has nearly won by a shut out.

Tremendous effort for Conway, what does he look like at 11 stone I don't know... I cannot believe only a few years back he looked like an excellent domestic Super Featherweight. However, he should now be well an truly in the domestic Light Middleweight mix (if he wants to stay here). NONE of the British fighters have beaten of Kotai's standard and stature in many years. I hope this win doesn't go unnoticed by the BBBoC and even the EBU.

Yeah quite a strange one this. Hats off to Conway, who has always missed the boat when the opposition is stepped up, but sounds like he did a number on Kotai last night. Maybe Kotai was too complacent coming into this, or maybe Conway is just improving. Interesting to see whether he is going to settle at LM or welter. Well done to him anyway

Read that Kotai said that his training had gone well , so lack of conditioning wasn't to blame. Excellent win for Conway.

Kotai has also asked never to box in Nottingham again, as both his losses have happened when he's boxed there.

For me, it definately edges Hatton vs Tszyu as the biggest upset this year, domestically.

Hatton-Tszyu was a 50/50 fight, IMO.

A mammoth report is now up over at BBN. 98-92 was one of many way out decisions by Shaun Messer on the night. I had Conway winning though. How Kotai has built up such a record, goodness only knows. Must have been a terrible off night.
