Froch wins TKO 5

Didn't watch it myself I'm afraid, but I'll comment on it anyway 8)

Sounds like it was fairly impressive, despite slapping about in the 1st. I think he was holding back a bit not wanting to aggrevate his hand injury.

Job done, certainly the result he'd be after.

I'd say next could maybe be Magee then Chanet if Froch stays this side of the tall Atlantic Mountainrange.

Maybe Pemberton if he has a fight in the US? He is surely getting very close to being shot now, and if his scheduled fight with Peter Manfredo JR is correct, then sounds like he'd be happy to take the money and run

It was an interesting fight, Froch just lounged around early not doing much and his workrate remains a concern, hopefully as the competition level rises so will his performance. As soon as he started putting his punches together Groenewald was in trouble, he tasted the canvas heavily in the third and i don't have any problems with the stoppage in the fifth, Groenewald hadn't really got a pathway back into the fight and it was a bit of a mismatch if truth be told.

Darren Barker looked good on the undercard and continues to improve, he reminds me a bit of a young Richie Woodhall. Solid jab and a good style, a bit upright maybe but seems as good as any of the other prospects in this easly stage of his career.

On a short note, i hope Calzaghe fights Froch...Froch wants it so why not? The Calzaghe's or mainly that hot air bag Enzo can claim Froch is a third division below Joe etc etc but if Salem, Mgkrtchian, Veit II and Ashira get the nod then why not Froch? He is no worse than that motley band of crap.

I think the problem is that Calzaghe has everything to lose and nothing much to gain by fighting Froch. If he wins it will simply be that Froch was "exposed" as not being as good as we think...and Calzaghe has then just beaten the British & Commonwealth Champion, which on a world stage (Calzaghe being WBO champ) doesn't really count for fornicate all.

If Calzaghe beats Lacy and then loses to Froch it would be a disaster for him.

I don't think it will happen in 2006 frankly. Depends how the Lacy fight goes though. If Calzaghe loses, then just maybe..

Froch against Reid is one I'd like to see.

i think froch has some talent there. he's a bit too disjointed to ever go all the way and unify or anything like that though.

i reckon he takes care of brian magee and gets him out of there in about 8 or 9 rds.

bring it on. :box:

Never been a believer in the Froch hype, Hennessy are giving him the big sell because he is the best they have...so as the saying goes...beggars can`t be choosers

Alot of things were highlighted lastnight by various people..and most wasn`t very good.

1.An opponent at least a division smaller
2.An opponent who had been very inactive over the last 3yrs.
3.How he cuffed with his left hand.
4.Poor defence.
5.His small amount of fights considering he is already 28yrs old.

There were probably others I have not mentioned, but whilst Johnny Nelson and Nicky Piper were polite about him I got the impression they too were not alltogether sold on him.

At the level he is fighting now he is doing pretty much as he likes but the step up to real world class will be a step up i think that will expose him big time....a world class punch will fold him, his chin may be good but his (lack of)defence will see to that not lasting long.

He does not deserve a shot at Calzaghe because the names on his record mean absolutely nothing.

Not these days it wouldn't. I thought Froch looked like shit early on, slower than usual...

I think Robin Reid would provide a better fight than Magee will.

A fight with Magee will be boring, and whilst I`d expect Froch to win that late on or on points it won`t be much better to watch than his fight against Mathew Barney...and it still won`t make him a world class fighter...regardless of Magee`s world ranking.

As long as Reid brought more to the fight than he did to the lacy fight then he will test Froch`s punch as well has his punch resistance on the world stage.

Yep, you could tell they were itching to put the boot in, but had to hold back as they didn't want to upset the Sky paymasters.

He didn't show a hell of a lot did he? Still, I like his attitude and think he's genuinely up for a fight with anyone. But he's going to pay with that slack defence of his - better hope he has an excellent chin.

A fight with Jurgen Brahmer I would LOVE to see.

I don't see Froch as world title holder material unless he gets a cheap belt, he's too easy to hit and relies on his power way too much.

However, he genuinely wants to fight the best available competition, but he's deluding himself if he really thinks a calzaghe fight is going to happen, give it up man,what\s in it for Calzaghe?

Your right of course James, but the thing that really riles me is the way Calzaghe's lot dismiss Froch as nothing when you take into consideration the shit Calzaghe has been fighting lately. If they are worth a shot then so is Froch...that's really what i am trying to get across :TU:

Yes Steve, but if Calzaghe isn't risking his title against anyone decent recently, why on earth would he face a domestic up and comer who isn't a mandatory?

I think Froch is the type who will raise his game against better competition, and his power is a real leveller, but he needs to tighten his defense and up his workrate if he's to become a world class fighter. I could definitely see him beating Beyer, but Kessler, Lacy and Calzaghe are all a level above him right now.

Frochy - World champion?????? the more and more i see him , the more i start to worry about his defence - or his lack of.

I'd like to see him pushed back against - like he was against Adamu . I'd also like to see him in with someone who can bang , test his durability.

Beyer takes a lot of flack and sometimes its a little unjust , sometimes he can look pants , but he looked very good against Dann Green in the second fight.

Tom Podmore.

I mentioned that the other week. I've never seen Brahmer, but he does sound more than half decent. And, by all accounts, he carries a very decent whack. Be very interesting to see how Froch's 'I have no defence' style holds up.

Of course, the other prospect at 168 is Lucian Bute, who got another good win this weekend. He's stringing together some good wins on paper. I can't comment, because I've never seen him. Would like to though, I hear good things about him.

And people say the SM division is boring and lacking in talent, i think it has the potential to be an excellent weight class if some of the fighters would actually fight each other.

Exactly. 2006 could be a great year for the division if the right fights are made. I expect to see Taylor there in the near future as well.

i was probably a bit harsh on froch early on in his career because of all that bbc cobraman cartoon hype shit, but to be fair to him he has a decent dig, can take a shot and is not without skills. he does seem a little disinterested sometimes but he can change this.
he is also the british and commonwealth champion so he deserve`s some credit for taking the traditional route.
maybe he wont be a world beater but he`s certainly got enough tools in his locker to give anyone a decent argument.
seems to have toned down the bragging as well which goes down better with me.

Good on him for wanting the EBU title first. :TU:

I rate Froch highly but I was disappointed with him on Friday against Groenewald. The referee blew it as well IMO. I don't think Groenewald was a beaten man when the ref jumped in. Ruben had proved he was resilient coming back from a heavy knockdown in the 3rd.

I'm sure Carl can improve on this, and if he wasn't in particularly impressive form, still getting a 5th round stoppage isn't too bad at all i suppose.

As for earning a shot at Calzaghe...of course he has. In the real world of boxing he has a way to go yet, but comparing Froch to some of the fodder that Sportsnetwork and the WBO have allowed Joe to defend against, Carl has good enough credentials.

Zzzzzzz, it's irrelevant whether or not he has 'earned' a shot.

Boxing rarely works like that. Had Oscar DLH earned his shot at Hopkins by stinking the joint out against Sturm?

He hadn't James, i agree with you. When i say Froch deserves a chance i know he won't get the fight, he isn't rated as a challenger by the WBO and his name isn't Mario Veit so he aint getting a shot. It takes the piss when Enzo Calzaghe dismisses him as a nothing when Joe's opponents have been so shocking....if they deserve a shot then Froch does. In theory...in reality of course you are totally correct as it won't happen :TU:

Froch got talent, calzaghe like to slag other off.
