Once an outstanding amateur who won an Olympic title, one World Championship, three European Championships. Turned pro after the fall of the Berlin wall. After 19 pro fights, challenges "the man" Prince Charles Williams for the IBF light-heavyweight belt. Wins comfortably on points. Defends 10 times against notable competition (Iran Barkley, Graciano Rocchigiani, Egerton Marcus). Attempts to unify, but loses a narrow points decision to Virgil Hill. Retires (as announced before the fight). Superb amateur-style, used every single punch in the book, very hard to hit.
# 56 on boxrec's all-time light heavyweight ranking due to his rather short pro-career - belongs much higher in my view.
