What did eveyone make of this? I thought it was quite interesting. The man knows his boxing and seemed to be quite realistic about his own downfall and why hasn't been fighting well of late but when he discussed whether this is due to his advancing years he said of his skills now "I know I'm still great".

Of course Barry and Duke were spot on in their hopes that he doesn't return, but just a question - how much of an improvement do you think there would be if he did (and I know he won't so it is hypothetical) dedicated himself for 6 months as he said what he needed to do should he return.

He seemed pretty sure that it his lack of desire that has cost him most and not age. What do you think?

That's why I missed it; I've boycotted all Nelson fights, since his abysmal performance in the Warring fight in 1992! I thought he would have learnt from the DeLeon farce in 1990, but alas, no, he was just as bad against Warring!!!!

He has no hunger, less speed, less power and most importantly hasn't the energy/stamina to have the high volume high action fighting style which is the only way he knows how to fight.

Against Holy he was a 5round fighter (although still fought well but not well enough after R5), against Lewis/Williams he was a 1round fighter, against McBride he tried to change his style to fight at a slower pace for 12rounds - it didnt work.

Hes totally shot - he still has the strength, some speed all the technique - but he can't produce the frantic pace which made him a legend

Tyson doesn't even have the technique any more, he stopped using Cus D'amato's system, relatively early in his career, and became a more straight forward slugger with less defence. His handspeed is still pretty impressive for his age, but without the output he's just not that good.

Is this due to age or the way he has been training, or a combination of both?

Both, Tyson has been abusing himself for a long long time now, he's not trained hard for fights for over a decade and he's almost 40, so there's no surprise.

Plus, there is zero mystique about the man, he's been battered to defeat by Williams and now McBride, the aura of fear has gone, and that was always one of his most potent weapons.

I think Tyson can come back and unify the titles if only he will dedicate himself. C'mon Mike I know you can do it.

He can't even beat Kevin McBride for fucks sake.

Mike just ran out of steam against Mcbride, for the early rounds he looked like the old Mike.

Against Danny Williams he was injured.

Against Lennox Lewis he kept smashing his face against Lewis's fists, otherwise he would surely have won the unified titles there and then in 2002.

In the division is so weak, if Tyson would just take back Rooney, be 21 years old again and get some heart, fitness and desire he could be the best again!
