Boxing News December 2nd 2005....either someone has been doing their homework or we have alerted BN to this national major event:

What A Joke

How's this for alphabet soup: Seven-fight Russian Welterweight Zapir Gereev won the vacant WBE European Youth Title, the vacant EBF European Youth Title and the vacant GBC Intercontinental Title in Berlin last Friday (November 25). He beat Germany's poor Mehmet Karaka, 2-3 (1), in one round.

Back off Boxing News we heralded the news first   http://www.boxrec.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=31681

Biggest coincidence was the story about internet boxing poster "Real Deal" offering DVD's in a competition to guess Danny's weight.

I want royalties for starting the thread  Seriously though i'm no Boxing journalist but they couldn't surely have been researching into this otherwise...could they?!

Even if it was read on here, surely that is research :-?

I'm just glad this bout is getting the wider recognition it so clearly deserves.....

Seriously, though, surely the likes of B.N. and Boxing Monthly detail people to watch the websites? It saves them doing the research, and no way can a weekly publication match the speed that internet sites like BBN get interviews and stories up. And whilst we may not conduct interviews in the same way on forums like this, you know the news breaks here first. Well, quicker than we can read it elsewhere, if you know what I mean.

Next time BN trawl this topic, maybe they could suggest 3 reasons why I should renew my subscription that I'm yet to be convinced to renew.....

I always think this but I'd be lost without boxing news every friday I think so I end up getting another year's worth.

I agree to. I love Boxing News but if they do get gossip, information etc off a website they should mention the websites name.

I think it's bang out of order for a publication not to quote it's source, not only out of common courtesy, but also from BN's point of view, suppose they took something of the 'net that turned out to be totally untrue and got done for libel. Wouldn't quoting the source up front not help them in this sort of situation.

Anyway, what annoys me most about BN is it's capacity to turn up on a Saturday or a Monday rather than a Friday, although I accept this isn't BN's fault!

Boxing News have quoted http://www.fightnews.com a few times as their source.

Oh yes. They regularly source loads of American sites. twobobbit.com get lineage. Seconds Out - who BN have just agreed to advertise on - also get name checked.

Kevin and I both subscribe to BN and Kev paid money to advertise BritishBoxing.net in the magazine. Did they advertise with us though? No. And if they've used a tiny bit here and there from us, we don't get name checked.

I suppose we must be doing something right, eh?

I used to think that I'd miss BN if I stopped subscribing but when the late deliveries reached ridiculous levels I stopped subscribing, must be over a year ago now. Don't miss it at all; get all the news I could want from websites and this forum.

Save yourself some money would be my advice.

My guess is that they're already concerned about losing readers to British-based sites and that highlighting those same sites in their publication will hasten the flight of some. Doesn't excuse the omissions but does explain them.
