Hi Guys,

Just wanted to introduce the British Boxing Fans Association. This organisation has been setup to act as a voice for the true fans of the sport and to give boxing fans a vehicle to collectively vent their spleens at the boxing authorities, boxing promoters and boxing press who do not always appear to have the interests of the fans at heart.

A website is in production as we speak that will provide full details of the BBFA, its aims and objectives. If you would like to register your interest as a boxing fan then please drop us an email at [email protected] and we will be delighted to send you further details.

I had this idea a few years back and voiced it on a few forums just never had the time....sounds interesting but more info re your intentions etc are required.

What weight would it wield?

The vast majority of us on this site are fans of the sport, we air our opinions and frustrations on here anyway so what will you be able to add to this?

Hi Tony,

You make a valid point. The aim of the BBFA is to be more than just a website. In every other sport in the UK the fans have a voice, and by that I mean a voice that the governing bodies of the particular sports listen to and take notice of. Web based forums are fine for individuals to share opinions but in all honesty... the promoters, managers & boxing authorities spend very little time reading internet forums.

The aim of the BBFA is to see that the opinions and feelings of genuine boxing fans arrive on the desks of the powers that be. There are many issues that need to be aired forcefully and intelligently and as a representative organisation we believe we can do just that.

For example... pretty well every boxing fan is a tv license payer yet apart from Amir Khan & Audley Harrison there has been little or no quality boxing aired on terrestrial tv in the last 5 years. The BBC has chosen to drop boxing in "after midnight". Channels 4 & 5 rarely show boxing before 2.00 am... This is an issue that needs to be addressed and en bloc we have the chance of some success.. as individuals we will remain ignored.

There are many other similar issues that need to be raised on behalf of the true boxing fans and that is what we hope to do. The weight of our arguement and the amount of clout it delivers is determined purely by the level of support from boxing fans.

We will lobby the British Boxing Board of Control, the ABA, the BBC & the promoters to see that the voice of boxing fans is heard loud and clear.

I hope you succeed in what you hope to achieve, it is a very, very big task.

In other sports they have a major governing body to answer to, in boxing we have got loads, WBC,WBA,IBF,WBO and what ever else you recognise, and all of these make their own rules. And bend them as and when they feel its necessary.

The promoters and managers do read what we are writing, they may not acknowledge us but they keep an eye on these sites, ask allegedly, where do you think the allegedly came from?

But they choose to do as they like anyway, if they don’t like the WBC`s rules they will change over to the IBF`s and if they too don’t suit then they will go with the likes of the WBU etc.

The boss of SN made a big deal about the quality of Audleys opposition when he was with the BBC, yet his golden goose is going the same way also.
They will repeat what we say when its not about one of their fighters and ignore when it is.

Great question. I would start with...somebody who respects Peter Buckley more than Audley Harrison.

Not sure I respect a sport that allows, essentially, pre-determined results though.

And that is the aspect of the sport Buckley operates in. I'm not calling into question his principles or legitimacy as a fighter, or maybe I am, he's a symptom not the cause. But are we to argue that we should be prouder of the charade of the 40-36 undercard fight than we have been about the charade of Harrison's career?

Because if the answer to that defines whether you're a boxing fan, then sadly I may have to get back to you.

I would say essentially that a true fan is someone that takes a detailed interest in the sport and genuinely cares about it.

whilst i think your crusade may be like pis*ing in the wind (no not warm for a minute then cold) I'll be e-mailing for further info. good luck.

Buckley is not a total sleeper...not a Jason Nesbitt. If he sees a chance, he goes for it - as he did against Sean Hughes recently. I take your point - it's a dangerous area to scratch - some quite unpleasant realities there.

But Buckley has heart and isn't full of shit - Harrison seems to lack the former and have excess of the latter.

Buckley is a top man, always happy to chat and helped out in the Midlands with addicted to sport programme where he gave his time to come down and train with the kids and also spar with them.

Top man and a credit to the sport!!

This has got to be a good indicator of a `real fan`.

Somebody who is in their seat before and after the main event.
