There is a 6 reel super8 film series called "The winning and losing of the heavyweight championship" that includes a short (30 second) clip of the first fight. So the fight was filmed. I have never seen this series on tape, but I believe it exists.

.....i've never been able to find a tape of this one...though i did see many years ago a bootleg film..shot from near ringside. copies of fights and tv shows right around this time were recorded, if at all, on something called kinegraph (kenescope?)..and i doubt if one letter in the words i just typed is anywhere near the correct spelling....but barry probably knows and may help us out. whatever the name...the quality wasn't nearly as good.
i can tell you this. in the seventh round charles had walcott...who was tiring...in trouble...but ezzard backed off. later he said that was at the advice of his corner...to take no chances.....but a source in his corner said it was the baroudi spectre at work again. whatever...it put the label "cautious" on ezzard that the sports writers used virtually every time they wrote about him.

yeah too bad we dont have film of that fight. charles was still at his peak then in 1949.
the best fight of the two was probably the 2nd fight, a lot more action and both stunned eachother very good as well as putting on a boxing at its best display. 9th round was a great round! charles was nearly floored by walcott then came back to floor walcott with a killer outofnowhere left hook. great fight to analyize.

A guy I have got some rare stuff off recently has them listed as follows:
Walcott-Charles 1st fight-14th and 15th rounds (1949)- This is a rare live broadcast of just the last two rounds of this classic bout, with the decision. Very good black and white picture.
Walcott-Charles 2nd fight highlights (1951)- Once again, Ezzard wins a unanimous decision. This highlight film shows six rounds of the fight. Very good black and white picture.
Walcott-Charles 3rd fight (1951)- This is the complete fight with voice-over narration. Very good black and white picture.
Walcott-Charles 4th fight (1952)- This is a highlight film of the final bout in this great series. Walcott wins a close, but unanimous decision. Very good black and white picture.
