A new british and commonwealth champ for starters.... :o

He has weighed as high as 206ibs so is it hard to conceive him bulking up to 220+....maybe..?

To fast for Skelton...
Too powerfull for Danny...
Too classy for Audley...

Trying not to get carried away this man but he could be the next British heavyweight world champ...

Match him with the current crop....

Valuev...(struggled with Ruiz who was no more than a paper champ)
Bryd...(good tactically but would he take the power??)
Rahman...(please...)
Brewster...(now you are taking the piss.. . :box: )

I'd certainly say Haye's power and punching is world class. On his day, he'd probably be able to KO anyone at all in cruiser or even heavy with few exceptions. But although heavy is more lucrative, I don't want to see him move up for no other reason. One option for the future though

I'm sure you could make the same postive points about Hide at the beggining of his career. Haye has ko'd some chinny Crusers and is chinny himself at Cruser. At best at HW he would be a Wlad like figure - great skills, nice power - but a KO waiting to happen.

I agree he'd beat Williams and Audley - Skeleton is a tougher test. On the world scene - his naturally smaller size, questionable stamina and a poor chin will be tested by all of the top 10 even in today division

He only tired out against Thompson though he used to be good so how does that say his stamina sucks? might over paced himself which he ain't doing now.

Patience, patience, patience.

Let him get a world title fight at Cruiser first.

Will his power carry up? Will he have the speed at 220 lbs? Will he have the chin?

Let the guy have half a career at Cruiserweight first.

Look at Nelson, I still see him as a huge Cruiserweight (despite the increase in weight limit). Look how much weight he put on in 2 days when he fought Vassiliev for the WBU Heavy title, instead of his scheduled WBO Cruiser title defence. He's 38 and still makes Cruiser.

I would like to see Haye around the 27-28 before stepping up.

He has potential even at heavyweight, but far more questions. We know he has world class power at Cruiser, does he at Heavy?

Dont get me wrong David Haye is a fine phyisical specimen....but he`s not thick enough around the chest...the guy would need to bulk up about 20lbs to really be able to mix it with the big boys.

In a few years when hes matured more and reached his peek, then he can think of taking on the HW's.

The guy is 6'3, so he's got decent enough height on his side. Just wonder if he could operate as efficiently at a heavier weight, plus there are still question marks over his defence (low hands, dodgy chin etc...). He'd certainly know about it if one of the better heavyweights caught him flush on the bonce.

Still, no better time to move to heavyweight than now! So good luck to him! :TU:

All valid points Stu, I agree let's see how far he goes at Cruiser and then move him up.

Just getting a bit exiting about a potential prospect as we have had such a poor crop IMO since Lennox.

if he wants to be a world class fighter, he shouldn't go up to heavy

Having had a thought, Haye could be a HW Champ in the future if he takes the Holyfield route - fight the best at Cruser and win - the perfect learning experience must be to become a world champ at the lower weight. He should then be huge on fight night - 210 on fight nighht anyway, If he can do that fighting as a 220-240 HW with the right nutrition, supplements and training he could carry up all his abilities.

This is certainly not an easy task he'd have to be extremely dedicated for at least 8years.

Holyfield had a reason to move up: he'd wiped the whole division out in the space of a year and a half. Aside from Qawi, it was an uninspired division with guys like Deleon and Ocasio clinging on for dear life. Even Qawi was faded, after the first war, and was on the bottle by the disappointing rematch. Holyfield's stamina and chin were never questioned after Qawi I.

with haye, alongside the questions around him, he's got a lot to look forward to at his own weight. There's the Enzo Mac-Nelson winner, and all the talented guys based in America, Cunningham, Bell, Jones, and probably Cora if he stops pulling out of EVERY fight. Mormeck should move up, if all goes to plan. if this Brudov guy spanks Virgil Hill, there may be a new major player in the division.

Haye would be much slower at heavy, he'd have less stamina for carrying more weight probably, be less mobile, have fewer advantages over opponents. it'd be an absolute disaster IMO

I don't see a probelm with Haye fighting Heveys infact I think he should to get some rounds under his belt. However I think he should conserntrate on campaigning at cruzer and work on those things people doubt.

If he becomes a name at Cruzer he will get plenty of offers from HW promoters and a HW carrer should follow but one step at a time. He is talented but isn't that talented.

Haye would KO most of the heavys at the moment.

He should be about 210 though if he goes to heavy, think Haye said he was going into training with about 220 anyway he said on BBC I think.

An match that interests me for Haye is with Dean Francis. NOT necessarily right this second, but if Francis can win a couple more and beat someone meaningful with a ranking I'd like to see this potentially classy, hard punching encounter. I know we have the concern over the shoulder but Dean supposedly looked good in beating Bonson and inform Rasani. A couple more wins and maybe this could happen.

Even right now Francis is probably better than most of Haye's opponents and I'm not sure I buy into this idea Haye can't make Cruiserweight, especially with newer weight limit of 14st 4lbs. Haye seems intent in running quicker than his legs can carry him.

i like francis. what a jab. could've been a damn good s/m, i liked his fight with Mark Baker. decent battle, many ppl though Baker was robbed vs Clinton Woods, and DF really laid into him.

i hope he can make some noise at cruiser. British cruisers have always been interesting, and if he still has some above average speed, who knows?

i think haye would rather boil down to 200-lbs than end up on his back at heavyweight. at heavy, he could lose to danny, audley, anyone. he could be the new Hide, getting dropped by the punches that miss by an inch!

Forgotten about Dean's comeback...

From what I heard though the shoulder isn't ever going to be fully functional, so how can he hope to progress? Is there something I don't know?

What ever you say about him he is class. Very exciting got charisma the works, He win cruiserweight world title, might do some damage at heavyweight, far better than enzo, he would smash hobson to bits imo. He has style to be a big star!

Merry Christmas!!

See him on Sky Sports yesterday? Talked about Audley-Williams and Ruiz-Valuev basically calling them a joke and claiming he'd wipethe floor with them.

"What would be your tactics to fight a 7 foot man?" "hit him on the chin".

He also said he sttruggled with the weight and was 217 with cuts before the fight but he had to train and drain down to make the weight. I think he fancies his chances in the weak heavyweight field. He is a KO waiting to happen though at that weight imo.

I hope you guys have your tongue firmly in cheek.....
Haye has yet to convince at cruiser yet...
Yes he stopped Gurov, but so did Dunstan (Dunstan stopped a better version more quickly)...

Dunstan then went onto get stopped in world title fights and had an absolute hum dinger with The CAT getting stopped in the last round despite winning all the early rounds...

Haye seems to contradict himself a little..... the cruiser weight limit has gone up and yet he is now claiming he struggles..... yet when Solis beat him in Belfast he said he was too small and giving away approx 6kg ( cannot remember the exact number). Sure a few years have passed but we are talking 85kg on the day in 2001 and 91kg the day before in 2005... that is a big difference... In my opinion if he is struggling it is because he has chosen to put weight on in the weights room...

220 is big enough to become world champion, dont get me wrong... the following heavies of recent years havent been much heavier, if at all... Brewster,Tyson, Holyfield, Moorer, Mercer, Hide, bentt, Spinks etc
However fighting at heavyweight requires a body and head that can absorb shots of tremendous power.....

Haye at heavyweight would be very similar to Jeremy Williams I reckon

I can see your point, but I wouldn't get too carried away about Haye.

We've had too many false dawns in the HW division in the last few years or so.

I was really surprised when Haybe suggested he was struggling to at Cruiserweight limit, he looks a solid Cruiserweight and i was hoping he was here to stay at that weight. I am not convinced he would move up sufficiently.

On some subjects Haye comes across as an honest guy, but with this weight issue I can't help but view discipline as a problem and also I think he's looking for a ready made excuse when he does lose to the next Cruiserweight. The quality seems ok and the punch power can take out almost anyone at the weight, but overall I get that flash in the pan feeling about Haye. Or maybe it's just he's a man in a hurry.
