British Power Punchers.

There was a thread on here not that long ago, discussing world P4P punchers. I think the thread instigator said Mayorga was top dog.
Well, I think Haye is top tog P4P, however are there any brits who you say have world class power - if not other skills. If so, where do you think they would be positioned if you look at world P4P punchers.
I definately think Enzo Maccrinelli can be considered a world class puncher, he doesn't have the speed or the accuracy of a Haye - but if he lands, your out of there. I'm still not sure who has the biggest pure punch Enzo or Haye. It would still be who connects first that would win. I think he'd be a top 10 world wide contender P4P for power.
Wayne Alexander is another one, who when lands flush has you out of there. His accuracy is poor and unlike the two above it does have to be a huge shot that KO's the opponents (Haye and Enzo can hurt opponents with more arm punches).
Danny Williams - I think its only Brewester, Peter and Tua who hit harder on the world scene. Maybe Maskaev, although he hasn't scored a KO in a while. I would say his power is on a par with Rahman. Corrie Sanders is a better puncher, but has he retired? I would actually say Danny is a better one punch KO artist than Wlad.
Any others? Skelton still has an impressive KO percentage. Joe Calzaghe? Carl Froch? Witter? Alex Arthur, Gomez. Who would you say has truly elite punching power.
I do think its an exciting times for British boxing - lots of impressive KO percentages there with many carrying up into European level.

You seem to have got most of them Stu
For me Alexander is the best, pure lights out when he landed on Tak
I've always rated Llewelyn (when he lands first) and I suppose Lockett is worth a mention with Rhodes, there could be a big punch that decides that one.

Thaxton ain't bad either especially at lightweight. Murray has a punchers chance versus most.

Not convinced Rhodes and Lockett are the same force at Middleweight as they both were at light Middle.
Llewellyn is quite a good call, a typical chinny banger.
Dean Francis at Super Middleweight was quite a puncher also.
Amir Khan will make this list in the very near future.

David Haye, Wayne Alexander and Enzo are the 3 that stand out.
Carl Thompson, Scott Dann and Peter Oboh are deserving of a mention

I did think of Thaxton, I remember him in his heyday looking devastating. I suppose his reign as a Light Welter made me not consider him as much.
Would love to see Thaxton on TV again - I've still yet to see a comeback fight.

What I seem to remember about Thaxton was they he threw very quick powerful looking hooks, probably the punch which decked Scrap Iron Ryan. Think he tried them against Augustus/Burton and ran out of steam when he couldn't KO him.

In all four bouts of Thaxton's comeback he has landed at least one knockout punch.
In the first how Saheed stood up to the first shot of the fight I will never know, in fact the second punch that landed seemed to wake him up.
He kayoed Carl Allen and Allen was down for ages, not many do that to Carl Allen.
De Bussilet was an accurate punch straight on his nose, he never looked like getting up.
And finally Dragomir was a great hook again he had no hope of getting up from.
At lightweight I really think he has a puncher's chance versus anyone in the country, he really is massive at the weight.
I just hope it is Michael Gomez in the opposite corner when Thaxton gets a TV shot. Plenty of bad mouthing has been going on.

Jono admits he took Augustus/Burton too lightly.

I suppose things like Boxrec help preparations nowadays, an American with his record normally only comes over for a holiday. Thaxton was definately on a roll, I think that he wound Burton up and Burton decided to make a fight of it and survived until Thaxton punched himself out. I'm sure I've got the tape of the fight somewhere...

if you have I would love to see a copy. They showed the Scrap Iron knockout on a big screen at the Norwich show a last week.

Burton Vs Thaxton right...I'm sure I only kept the tape for that fight, it's a good lesson in getting the tactics right.
Just found the tape, it won't be great quality but it's got Hide Vs Fischer, Burton Vs Thaxton, LLoyd Vs Docherty, Ingle Vs Hardy (very poor fight considering two British stars), Ashley Vs Siluvangi, Kelly Vs Thomas, Tua Vs Curry and Lewis Vs Mavrovic.
I'll try and put it onto DVD over Xmas and PM you when it's done...is it just the Thaxton fight you wanted to see?

I hasten to disagree Stu boy, nearly ALL of Gary's KO's came at Middle! (the previously unstoppable Kevin Kelly being his only KO at 154lb)! Lockett posseses world class power no doubt about it!!
Ask Ryan Rhodes in April (about when he should wake up)

Wayne Alexander
Indeed he hits! If it wasn;t for his punch he would of lost his last fight.

Patrick J Maxwell could be one, have to wait and see if his power is still the same when he steps up in class.
Looking back over the years we've had a few Colin Jones, Tom Collins, Ensley Bingham, Pat Barrett ,Michael Ayers, Paul Hodkinson
Alexander the Great

Alexander is the best puncher in Britain, Haye is a very good puncher but well looked after, has always fought fighters that are a bit chinny, including Carl Thompson - who's legs are shot - does anyone remember what Ezra Sellers did to him.
I think Alexander has a chance against any of the top light middles but is old now, injuries has also put him back and is a bit glassy.
Danny's one of our best punchers anno but not in the same league as Alexander.
What about Froch? Calzaghe ?

Danny hits hard, but who has he ever KO'd who was anywhere near world class with a single shot?

Wayne Alexander.
I agree with Boxingaddict , with his views on Haye , he's never fought anyone with an 'iron chin', would he even stop Paul Bonson????

JamesMcDonnell, The manner in which he blasted Kali Meehan adds some weight to those who mentioned Danny.

Kali Meehan is not a world class fighter. Was an impressive KO though granted.

For a few months after running friend and sparmate Brewster close, he was thought of in those terms.
Rahman put an end to his world title aspirations.

Vitali Klitschko , struck me as having a top-class chin. He could really bang as well.
Non-heavies , tough........... De Le Hoya at super-feather and light-welter was a real banger and he has an iron chin.

Terence wrote:People say Calzaghe but he has not had a clean KO since 1997. I don't recall the last time he put someone on their back and they stayed there.
Haye hits hard and hits guys often, I still think he is going to have problems with his chin.
Off topic but can anyone think of a seriously big hitter who had a rock solid chin? Ray Mercer perhaps? How about non-heavies.
Mercers punch power wasn't that phenomenal, though he could bang a bit.
George Foreman, rock solid chin, took some serious shots on his comeback and just walked through it all. Has there ever been a better puncher at heavyweight?
