theone, i can see why u dont think corbett matchesu up well vs other heavyweight greats, but to say a junior middleweight like winky wright smokes him is absurd.

Hmmm, I just watched the Ali Foreman fight and was SHOCKED!! Ali just leaned on the ropes and let Foreman beat on him until he fell over from exhaustion. And Foreman was throwing these wide slow punches, and a lot of times when he missed, he fell into the ropes completely off balance. Complete amatuers. It was pathetic!! Chris Byrd or Vitali would have made those guys look like toughman competitors.

Really? It sounds more like you watched the first round or so, and then read a popular description of the fight. If you'd actually paid attention, Ali won every round except the first.

Winky Wright vs James Corbett? Well, I have to admit I never would have thought of this matchup! Of course Corbett would win, not sure how long it would have lasted. Wright is a great fighter, but there is no way that he would beat a skilled heavyweight like Corbett.

Agreed. Turn of the century however, Wright would have schooled Corbett and alot of fighters like him.

vasquez was fairly unskilled yet he managed to drop wright on numerous occasions.put him in 20-25 rounders with the likes of ketchel let alone the heavies and he's gonna get ko'd.

corbett took peter jackson 61 competitive rounds, peter jackson would have knocked winky out. corbett outboxed 6'2 220lb jeffries for 23 rounds when corbett was aging u , do you think winky would handle jefffries??

BB, your obviously missing the point. At 6'2 220 Jeffries would be weaker physically than the 5'10 160 Wright. Wright has the benefit of fighting in the modern era with new technology to make him stronger.

And when you think about it, it was the early 20th century, they probably didn't know how to measure correctly, especially looking at the sources you take them from. The newspapers embelished his height and weight, as the've never seen the powerful built boxers of today. Jeffries was in reality only 5'4 120 lbs and would be bullied by the stronger, quicker, prettier, more intelligent, fancier, better cook, better dancer, more luck with the ladies, more outgoing, more bashful, more mascular, more feminine, more in touch with reality, more down to earth, more wordly, more respected, more charismatic Wright.
