Was there ever serious talk of a Monzon vs Foster fight?

I was wondering was there ever serious talk of a 'Superfight' between Middleweight Champion Carlos Monzon and Light-Heavyweight Champion Bob Foster?

Both have gone down in history as all time great fighters and their long Championship reigns did overlap by a few years so the fight was possible. Monzon was a big Middleweight and I am sure could have been a force at 175lbs even against a monster like Foster.

Or maybe this fight wasn't even on Fosters agenda as he always seemed to have one eye on the Heavyweight division throughout his career.

Over the years I have read and heard people criticise Marvin Hagler for not stepping up and fighting Michael Spinks, but I can't recall the same comments being made against Monzon.

Physically to me Monzon looked bigger and more likely to bulk-up to a
Light-Heavyweight than Hagler ever did, so was there ever serious talk of this happeningduring Fosters Championship years or later? E.g. Monzon vs John Conteh?

Any views fight fans? :box:

Honestly I don't like the way fighters now days are jumping weight so much from division to division. I don't ever critisize because i'm sure losing and keeping weight off is a tough business but I think it is much harder to completely dominate one division for a long time than to win paper titles and make a claim to winning "championships" at several weight classes.

I don't recall such a fight ever being mooted, but it would have been mouthwatering.

I would be inclined to lean towards a Foster victory, but like you say, Monzon was big & tough as hell, he would have given Bob a nightmare.
